DVD's for Delegates Dropped the Ball--UPDATED

At the RP Training I received a copy of the DVD's for Delegates DVD but I was not able to watch it until now. On Tuesday Sept 2nd during the breakfast many Delegates who were not RP supporters said they dislike that DVD but did not say why but did say that they did not realize it was about RP until near the end. After seeing the packaging, which was impeccable, and watching it I now understand why.

On the cover read:

-“Party Gatherings”
-“Local Hot Spots”
-“Platform Construction”

The Problem was that the DVD did not deliver on any of these claims and instead gave SHOCK AND AWE. The packaging was great and information contained on the DVD was important but we lost HUGE credibility by not delivering on the claims on the packaging. This was a huge opportunity that was lost.

Say what you are going to do, and DO what you said. This DVD did neither of these things. UNBELIEVABLE!

[Edit: Credibility
On September 6th, 2008 Hobbit says:

If at least they provided the information they claimed to be providing, then there would have been a greater chance the DVD would have been watched more than once and may be worth holding on too, if the other information was also cleverly presented. Obviously a lot of planning went into the packaging, it is too bad we could not deliver at the minimum what we claimed on it. I am only offering my opinion after watching it today. I as I said, many delegates who were not RP supporters made same negative comments about it; I AM a RP supporter and I will probably still vote for him, but I have to agree with them on this one. Lets do better next time and not repeat the same mistakes—take this as my constructive criticism---please do not take it personal.]

exactly how any of this

exactly how any of this monday morning quarterbacking is constructive is beyond me.

perhaps for next time?

yea, i'm sure all the criticism and remarks will have the volunteers lined up around the block.

(shakes head)

I wanted them to get his book

I thought the book was the most important thing that every delegate should have had. It is not sneaky and it is easy to read. It has ALL the points that they need to know. When they are well informed, they will either get it or just continue to be brain dead. That's what I wanted.

we hurled the ball from 3 pt land in the direction of the basket hoping for a buzzer-beater play. I have nothing but accolades for the people who put the dvds4delegates project together.

Live Free or Diebold

Yes, most definitely

Although the effort ultimately failed, the enthusiasm that drove that effort should be nothing but praised.

Is it too much to ask to do

Is it too much to ask to do what you say will do on the cover? Just because someone's heart was in the right place doesn't mean we should just ignore criticism.

my feedback re: the DVD for delegates

I haven't seen the packaging, but I did watch the content via the web (forgot where). I spotted some typos and there were some editing problems (very low sound on one segment directly after a loud segment and sloppy timing on some cuts, to name 2 that I recall), and some of the content seemed rather heavy-handed on emotional manipulation. My immediate reaction was that I doubted it would sway anyone. However, to even attempt such a project is audacious, and to get out a DVD to every delegate is at least a partial triumph, and I certainly tip my hat to all who made that happen. Nobody can question your dedication or your willingness to "dream big" for the cause.

I agree with the other posters on this thread: we should applaud those who gave their time and money to this project, while also giving serious criticism of the output in order to learn from the experience and do better next time.

What is begun in anger, ends in shame.

I agree 100%

I do apologize for appearing to be insensitive to the otherwise great efforts that was put into this project to make sure all the delegates received a copy.

I was a guest at the convention and I was in the trenches with our RP Supporter Delegates offering my support and helping out as much as I could. There were efforts to get petitions signed by five other delegations to force RP as a nomination choice, we could only secure US Virgin Islands. With the focus turned to the hurricane and the 1st session adjourned 5hrs early that certainly did not help our situation; but those that helped put the care packages together took the opportunity to try to sway more delegates our way.

Like RP says, there is a sense of urgency; we need to do all we can to remain credible so that others will be more open to the ideas we are spreading.

God bless the Virgin Islands

i know where i will take my next mid-winter vacation!

I agree with you Hobbit.

I agree with you Hobbit. Don't apologize. Nothing wrong with your post. It was constructive and intelligent.

Let us remember.....

that almost ALL of the projects that have been undertaken during the last 2 years have come from the grassroots. In other words they have all been done by V O L U N T E E R S!!!!!!! This means that those who have been motivated enough to give up their TIME and TALENTS to contribute hours and hours of work, receiving NO SALARY in exchange should be THANKED and not criticized. For many of those involved this is the FIRST attempt at a project or activity, the first attempt at trying to coordinate anything.

It seems to me that considering this EVERYONE who has contributed this year has done a marvelous job, AND has gained immense experience for the FUTURE of the movement. Maybe mistakes were made on some projects or maybe they were not done the way TRAINED PROFESSIONALS would have done things. But this movement needs lots of time and experience in order to learn and improve.

HOWEVER, I think that COMPLAINING about the efforts of VOLUNTEERS is really tacky.

I have been so incredibly impressed and amazed at the ingenuity, creativity, bravery and generosity of all of the grassroots volunteers this year, AND at the absolutely UNDAUNTED attitude that keeps the grassroots coming back time after time no matter what the odds and no matter what evil strategies are used against the movement.

So I will send a big THANK YOU to the volunteers who have put together ALL of the various and sundry efforts these last two years, and to those who are continuing to contribute to the Campaign for LIBERTY.

Thomas Jefferson: “Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever."

Viva La Revolucion!

Let us also remember...

That we learn through our mistakes, and constructive criticism is just that: constructive. If you write a short story, you often send it to someone else for proofreading and a second opinion. The same principle applies here. If the information provided by the DVD was misleading and dishonest, that does not help or reflect well on us, Ron Paul, or our ideals of truth and accountability. I agree with you that our volunteer grassroots efforts have been incredible and brimming with creativity and amazing ingenuity, and I don't think anyone disagrees with that sentiment as you seem to be implying, but there's ALWAYS room for a second opinion. Otherwise it's just intellectual masturbation.

I certainly agree with you that petty bitching about positive efforts is tacky and a waste of time, but there's a difference between that and bringing to light our flaws so that we may correct them and emerge stronger, always stronger.

Bravo to the DVD Paulunteers

I was in the Mall of the Americas, Monday morning (prior to the book signing) with two other patriots. We were wearing our Ron Paul t-shirts, and were getting thumbs up all over the place. We met all kinds of supporters, and even non-supporters were quite friendly and inquisitive. I was actually amazed at the genuine curiosity many people express regarding Dr. Paul (and the traditional philosophy of liberty).

Well, at one point we were walking along talking, and were approached by two official RNC delegates from Tenessee. They stated that they had heard of Dr. Paul because of the DVDs the campaign sent out and were very appreciative of the information.

They were also released Huckabee delegates, and were seriously considering a vote for our man because of the information they received (and the fact they detested McCain). In fact, They thought the DVD was sent by the official campaign...

Whether they voted for our man, I'm not sure. But, in this instance the DVDs worked. I say BRAVO TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE PROJECT. You are HEROES in this revolution, and your efforts got real results!

I am also feeling some guilt pangs, as I should have been helping with this project. Oh well, I will learn from this experience and strive to do more in the C4L.

"Let the good heart speak words of true peace, not inciting others to further war." -- B.I.S.

I was only commenting on the content...

I was not putting down the effort of the Paulunteers. This was a high stakes effort and the ones who were responsible for the content should have been more mindful.

Wow! thank you for this story!

I bet we will hear of even more positive reactions! Great job everyone on dvds! I wish I could have helped more too but the little I did made me realize the hours and hours of volunteer time that this project took!
Thank you to all on the dvds project for all your hard work and I hope to see more sent out soon!

I can't speak for the content ...

as I haven't seen the completed DVDs. However, I can say, in my 45 years of politics, I've never worked with a more dedicated team of volunteers or professionals than those who created the DVDs. I say this, even though much of my input was rejected as being "too confrontational". I can further state that those materials described were to be supplementary data on the disk, separately accessible from the "shock and awe." I say, "were to be," because, while I don't know if they actually made it on the disk, they are supposed to be there.

If the rumor is true, that Ron Paul is going to be on the ballot for the Constitution Party in at least two states, this is the beginning, not the end, and we have the resources ready to win a national election.

dropped the ball???

good grief! how can you say such a thing?

evan cutler put a gazillion percent into that project and whoever actually helped him!!!

Hey ,they did their best on short notice. GOOD NOUGH
Where can I still get one for the info ? how much $$$ ?

Do you know how not hard it

Do you know how not hard it is to burn a DVD? Do you know how even not harder it is to choose the content of said DVD and make it conform to labels on the package? Zeal is good, but intelligent well planned zeal is MUCH MUCH better. Just because someone has a good idea and we throw money at them, doesn't mean we should applaud their shortcomings. That's wasteful and shortsighted.

It took about three months for us to raise a mere $50,000

www.dvds4delegates.com the newest and possibly the greatest weapon the Revolution now possesses.
for this project. When people finally started to rally behind it we went from a couple thousand to fifty thousand dollars in about a month. The DVD project had to be rushed because of either people's lack of funds to donate or because of people's lack of willingness to donate. We should blame ourselves before we point any fingers. That is unless you were to broke to give.

The $50,000 they asked for, for three months(at least) only came

www.dvds4delegates.com the newest and possibly the greatest weapon the Revolution now possesses.

in about the month before the project needed to go out. Three months= first two months practically nothing+last month almost all $50,000. Too little too late.

The R3volution requires action, not observation!!!!

So you raised a mere 50,000

So you raised a mere 50,000 in three months ????

Then why do you go on to say you raised 50,000 in one month????

what is it, one month or three months?????????????????

What is your problem?

Do you have reading comprehension problems? Tog already told you.. the $50K that was asked for 3 months ago to complete the project mostly came in during the last month!

I think they did a fantastic job !

Many hours of volunteer work went into this by many people doing the best possible at the last minute! I believe there will be many positive results from those dvds and I hope more of them will be produced and sent out!

Hold your fire.

To me, the biggest disappointment after the Rally and RNC is the amount of heat and blameful rhetoric aimed at our own rather than the enemy.

If the DVDs had flaws, it is helpful to point out improvements for future projects. I see this year as our first major effort in the political arena. We amateurs volunteered our creativity, passion, and time as substitutes for a professional, taxpayer-funded political machine. Mistakes were made, but they will help us learn and be stronger if we don't discourage our volunteers' efforts by fruitless negativity.

I'm sorry if my response seems harsh, but if you haven't personally put all you had into a big project such as the DVDs for Delegates, you can't understand how much time and effort it takes, what the obstacles are, how much of the volunteer's personal funds and resources go into such efforts, and how difficult it is to achieve perfection. Not to mention the courage to put oneself and one's work on the line as an easy target for criticism.

Just back off. Did you produce a set of DVDs that were better? Can we simply learn and go forward supporting and encouraging each other?
