Hurricane update: Ike is now headed straight for Lake Jackson/Clute/Freeport, TX- Ron Paul's home.

UPDATE 9/11:

BREAKING NEWS: "Mandatory" evacuations for the coast, parts of Houston, Galveston, etc.

Ike is now forecasted to hit Lake Jackson, TX directly as a category 4 Hurricane. To those from Ron Paul's district/home, you should seriously consider evacuating.... this Hurricane is gaining strength, and who knows what kinds of tricks FEMA will pull afterward (martial law?).

********************************************

Hurricane Ike has taken a shift away from Florida. The newest calculations have it on a path headed directly to Ron Paul's Congressional district with the storm hitting just a few miles east of Lake Jackson, TX as a category 2 Hurricane.

Track the storm:

UPDATE:

the forecast now has the storm headed south towards Corpus Christi, TX (that's south of Ron Paul's district and home of Lake Jackson)

Will Ron Paul ask for Federal Aid for his district after Ike?

A Ron Paul supporter for this election cycle and a Mississippi Gulf Coast (Bay St Louis, MS) Hurricane Katrina survivor (in the attic of my house as the waters rose), I wonder how Ron Paul will respond to the upcoming disaster in his own district.

Being one of only 11 Representatives to vote no on Katrina Aid, I am curious as to what his position will be when the disaster visits his own neighbors, community, friends and constituents.

Will he vote a resounding "NO!" to the upcoming Hurricane Ike Aid Package that will be proposed for his own district after this upcoming disaster? Will he declare "Why should people in Arizona pay for those who chose to live on the beach?" as he did for the Katrina Aid?

I love me some Ron Paul but....this will truly test his ability to stand on principles as opposed to doing what will be absolutely necessary for his own district to recover. It will not be enough to make a statement that it would be better to send the money directly to the communities affected and circumvent the FEMA waste hole. A statement that is absolutely true! But...if you want the money you'll have to get it in the only way it is going to be offered! He will have to enact a piece of Legislation to do such a thing. And that will take time and time is not something that he will have.

Galveston and Houston our thoughts are truly with you.

Paul might not

but Nader surely would

To all those dissing the power of a hurricane

While Gustav was the most pathetic storm in my 33 years, I also sat through the weakest part of it. The NE quadrant is the strongest and the SW the weakest. (I was in the SW) The NE path of Gustav took main power lines out in a path about 100 miles long and the storm took out power for almost 90% of the state at some point. Sections of Baton Rouge and New Orleans will remain without power for another week or two. There were lots of trees knocked down, some on houses, some killing people, and there were plenty of tornadoes.

Some of these power outages are affecting gas stations and grocery stores being open, as well as sewer systems not working to capacity. Read that again.

Sometimes the outerbands bring more wind and damage than the inner part of the storm. For Rita, we mostly experienced a strong tropical storm being on the NE side, though we were about 80 miles away from the center. The next day, we experienced an outerband with 90 mph sustained winds. (over 1 minute constant) And then the flooding came.

Yes, trees do break the wind much, but the storms do take out trees on top of you sometimes.

I have family that rode out a cat 2 in Destin, Fl. They were scared crapless and will never do that again.

Sometimes you get lucky, usually you don't. If you are less than 30-40 miles inland and/or less than 40+ feet above sea level, get out if it's above a cat 2, and even for a 2 you might want to leave if you are too exposed/vulnerable to wind/surge.

**Katrina was officially a cat 2 when it hit New Orleans and Mississippi. If a storm reaches cat 4 or 5 and then weakens as it comes ashore, expect a still powerful surge, large wave action on top of that, and gusts that might surprise the heck out of you.

**Rita had an official surge of 16-18 feet, with 20-40 foot waves ON TOP of that in some areas - my Uncle had a 16 foot surge with 25 foot waves on top of the surge which crashed over his house and he is almost 80 miles from where the eye made landfall.

**Georges, a cat 2 several years ago, reported 90+ foot waves at the mouth of the Mississippi. (yes I said 90 feet)

These storms CAN be serious. Each one is different, and the effects vary as wildly as to intensity as they do in location and duration.

Living in Paradise

Having lived in South Florida much of my life, I can easily say that no storm is to be taken lightly. Recently I went through Fay, now some winds from Ike. I always take precautions. It can be considered a fire drill. It's good practice. but, i do not like to be commanded to EVACUATE. I'm not comfortable with this. I am not asking for the government's help. Therefore, do not force me to evacuate.
It takes the paradise out of living in Paradise. Does anyone else agree? We need to be responsible for ourselves. and, if you are in need, Or, you live in a high risk area, your structure is not strong, you take the necessary actions to insure your personal safety, right?

MSM Report: http://www.msmreport.com/

These storms are notoriously

unpredictable. Gustav was a VERY RARE exception, and even then, their initial track and forecast strength were correct, though they kept revising it as time went on. With Gustav, most of the variables that play havoc with the forecasting models simply weren't there and never popped up. Ike is par for the course.

There is mathematical analysis which proves due to chaos theory and infinite variables that it is impossible to predict weather with ANY degree of certainty beyond 14 days. (3-5 days being the normal limits of anything anyone would accept as 'certain') Yet another empirical example of how any claims of future warming or cooling beyond anything other than a general trend is impossible. (in other words, global warming claims, as well as global cooling claims, are in essence - bunk, as they cannot be proven beyond 2 weeks out)

No

The prediction has been shifted further south. They have been consistently missing and adjusting hurricane Ike. I think they just like to say it will hit the US just to keep us alarmed and tuning in.

So much for Sept 8

Now on Sept 11, very much towards Houston.

really?

really?

:)

.

This was funny Sept 8

I live in Houston and saw definite chemtrails on 9th in nw Houston. I know some people don't acknowledge chemtrails, but the government does and all the disbelief doesn't seem to make them go away. Now on Sept 11, Ike has turned from going into Corpus Christi to dead bead for Lake Jackson. Hometown of our favorite congressman.

I just looked at the track

I just looked at the track of Ike, and it does look like it may go in away from our town of Lake Jackson, more toward Brownsville, closer to where my son lives! But I wouldn't want it aiming toward Gulf Shores, AL, because I have a daughter there. We will hope for the best, and we will be okay.

Hi neighbors. Doloras is

Hi neighbors. Doloras is right. The analysis is that it will maintain a fast forward speed causing it to trend more directly west. If it starts to slow its forward motion after leaving Cuba, it will have more time to recover strength and will trend in a more northwesterly direction, more in line with Brazoria County.

See you tomorrow. I have a truck load of signs that weren't used in Minneapolis and they need to be stored or otherwise taken care off. Come with ideas.

Watch the walk4freedom's

Watch the walk4freedom's video on the group that disposed of used flags.
Do the same ceremony with the signs. Then burn them all..

Dr. Paul is on the Ballot

in Montana, Louisiana, and I believe Virginia (as a VP).

Sounds like a good use for those signs to me.

Hi George

It's a shame you had to haul all those signs to the Rally and they weren't used. We'll see you at the meeting tomorrow nite and maybe the signs can go out to the barn or we can divide them up in storing them. I don't look forward to keeping them here again. I need the room. See you tomorrow.

I live in the same town, and we are stocking up on water and boarding up, and getting ready to get out of town if need be. Please pray.

Hi Marilyn,

You're in our meetup group in L.J. I just heard on the news that Ike's headed down the coast between Port Aransas and Corpus Christi. I really don't think we have to worry. By the way, I'm Dolores.

Marilyn in Lake Jackson

Hi Delores!
My son and his family are in Rockport, close to Port Aransas and Corpus. But better them than me!! (just kidding.) I'm sure we will all be fine. You and Bruce take care. I did see him briefly at the rally. What great fun that was.

MarilynInLakeJackson

Hey Marilyn,

Let's just say our prayers and hopefully Ike will die and not go anywhere. My heart goes out to those wherever it lands. We'll go to San Marcos to my son's if we have to leave but I doubt it will happen. Betty (Jan) said she had a fabulous time at the Rally with you and your sister. I watched every second of it online. I had a great time watching it. Hope to see you at our Tuesday meeting sometime if you don't have to work.
