"Sen. Barack Obama delivered an impassioned defense of the Constitution and the rights of terrorism suspects tonight, striking back at one of the biggest applause lines in Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's speech to the GOP convention.
It was in St. Paul last week that Palin drew raucous cheers when she delivered this put-down of Obama: "Al-Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America and he's worried that someone won't read them their rights."
Obama had a few problems with that.
"The reason that you have this principle is not to be soft on terrorism. It's because that's who we are. That's what we're protecting," Obama said, his voice growing louder and the crowd rising to its feet to cheer. "Don't mock the Constitution. Don't make fun of it. Don't suggest that it's not American to abide by what the founding fathers set up. It's worked pretty well for over 200 years." "
Those words could have come out of Ron Paul's mouth
so why are they so distasteful from another? I could understand the invective if Dick Cheney or George Bush spoke that way. Lotta hatiness on this thread, folks. Haven't we had enough of that yet? The reason it caught my eye and I brought it up because until he stops voting against the Constitution, which he has done repeatedly, he has no basis for pointing a finger at someone else. If you compare the voting records and major donor lists of obama and mccain, you will see little to no differences between the two which leads to the conclusion that both of them are nothing more than the same ugly status quo.

The Constitution is great to defend
when it aligns with your beliefs, it's a little harder when it completely conflicts with what your saying. I don't hear him defending the Constitution when it comes to gun rights or any other clearly enumerated rights.

Any mention in defense of the Constitution is a net positive. He needs to make a bigger issue of this, which can easily leave an opening for RP to get in front of the media again with more info on our Constitution, and why it's important that the next president "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Conveniently using the Constitution for political ends.
It is very easy to see why the average Joe/Jane can get sucked into his rhetoric. For us, Obama's opportunism and hypocrisy is showing its ugly face; however, for those ignorant to his past actions, he is looking like a god-send. Very sickening, in my often-irate opinion.
Mr. Obama will use the Constitution purely when convenient. Of course he is going to come back at some half-wit VP candidate, and why not blow-the-dust-off it, and bring the good ole Constitution into the pseudo-debate. This is similar to when Obama answered in favor of the 10th Amendment, that was mentioned in a previous post. We know from his earlier actions that Mr. Obama is lying to us. We know he is in favor of FISA and elements of the Patriot Act which, if I'm not mistaken, is a direct contradiction to his belief that the Constitution is to be embraced and held high.
The doublespeak we were warned about is plain as day to us. We need simply to make it clear to those that do not know: Mr. Obama is a fraud. Once the veil is removed, there is no stopping those that realize they have been lied to their entire life.
