Note to the "Write in" crowdSubmitted by samadamscw on Wed, 09/10/2008 - 01:13
This is for all those who intend come hell or high water, by whatever means available, to write in Ron Paul's name on their ballot for president.
While I admire your steadfast adherence to principles, quite frankly you have no clue as to what the hell you are doing.
For starters, not one single vote for president or vice-president will be cast on November 4th. In fact, most likely the only people this year who WILL cast a ballot for president or vice president will be either a Republican or a Democrat, who is already pledged by law, to vote for McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden.
The people DO NOT vote for President. The Electoral College does.
If you write-in Ron Paul's name on your ballot, if you can manage, the entire ballot, including your other votes for other offices, will be thrown in the garbage. Additionally, if it were counted at all, it would be counted as a vote for RP for ELECTOR from your state. (assuming he would win a majority of the state, he would get to vote for Pres and VP in December)
But since most states require a vote for a FULL SLATE, as opposed to only one person for Elector, then the ballot will likely be tossed in the trash anyway.
I support Dr. Paul, and I wish he could be President. But barring making him Speaker of the House, and impeaching both the newly elected goons, or convincing the Electoral College to vote for him, it ain't gonna happen.
It isn't a protest. It IS a 'wasted vote' because it will be in the trash. There aren't nearly enough people who will do it, for it to even be noticed.
On top of that - RP has asked us all not to try to write him in. How about we listen to him hunh?
