Have YOU signed up to work this November's voting polls?

I haven't, and I think it's something we all need to do.

Consider all the hijinks that go on at polling places. In addition to Diebold machines across the nation, there's plenty of local shenanigans or plain old ineptness that toss our treasured votes overboard. Did you hear about the more than 3,000 missing ballots from the August primary in Florida? Well guess where officials now think those ballots ended up? In the trash. Literally.

The precious votes of Americans deserve protection from all kinds of invalidation. So I propose that we DPers put our blogging fingers on the push buttons of our telephones, call up our local registrars, and offer to help work the polling places on Election Day.

You don't have to devote the whole day to the process, and you won't even miss out on voting (especially if you do early mail-in voting). In addition to officially working the polls, other options include standing outside of polling places with affidavits so exit polls can be notarized; an excellent program that we really missed the boat on back during the primaries.

So there's the gauntlet thrown. Each DPer here, get on board to protect our votes on Election Day. I'll do the same. It's one thing to tell people to make sure they go out and vote; it's quite another to ensure those votes are counted as they should be.

We may not be able to thwart Diebold, but...hm; but maybe we can.

Was it Stalin who said...

You don't need to control the vote... just control those who count the vote?

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

My state votes by mail, but that could be interesting to be

involved with! Good idea fanofwalt!!

What are you fightin' for?
Caught in the middle?
Freedom is only for those with the guts to defend it!

"Interesting" is one term for it; "Vote Fraud" is another

Don't think you're out of the woods just because you vote by mail.

It might interest you to know that the InSane campaign has sent out one million bad ballot applications, rendering those applications illegal. And instead of telling voters that those forms are wrong and new forms are needed, voters are simply being informed that their applications are invalid.

Please check your ballot applications!!

Affidavit Information

Let's hop into the Wayback Machine and visit Daily Paul back in January 2008: Read this thread on Voter Affidavits; also read about Commercial Affidavits in this thread from February, and look through this thread from Dec. '07 for more helpful tidbits.

The voter affidavit issue was discussed in several forums way back when, so if you come across others, please add them to this thread for our review.

As far as polling places being partisan, I rather suspect that was so only for the primaries, when Dems and Reps had specific polling days -- November is a General Election, so I would not expect partisanship or party affiliation of any kind to be an issue.

Great idea!

Thanks for the reminder.

This is a very partisan

This is a very partisan issue. Usually only the Republican and/or Democrat Parties supply ALL of the poll workers. Check it out in your state, but that is how it is in AR. It seems highly unconstitutional for people who hold no allegiance to either party to be "cut out" of working in polling centers, but they are, at least in this state. Let us know what you find out when you try to volunteer..

How do I go about the affidavit thing?

The info you wanted is posted above

Or at least, a good running start at the information on this topic.

I wonder what it takes and how quickly one can become a Notary...

lots that can be done

I worked the polls for our state primaries and plan to help again in November. This is not an option for many people because of the major time commitment. We were literally there from 5:30 am until after 9 at night and this was the easiest, lightest voting day the coordinator had ever seen for our precinct.

One thing that can make a difference, if we are trying to encourage people to vote 3rd party, is to just be there, outside the electioneering-restricted point, and talk to people about Constitutionally minded candidates. There will be a lot on the ballot besides the Obama-McCain race. Let them know about qualified write-in candidates (in my state, there is a list posted inside the room, but we aren't allowed to tell anyone about it unless asked because that would be considered influencing the vote.)

Remember the "unity" and "pro-life" platform lists that were used to undermine Dr. Paul's support in the early caucuses when the other candidates combined to counteract his organization? These worked because most people show up to vote because they are supposed to, not because they really know enough about the people running to make an informed decision. This is an ideal time to inform voters as they are going into the voting booths. Those of us working inside cannot do this, but if you get a chance to be informed about not only the Presidential race, but also the ballot initiatives and local races, there is a huge opportunity to make a difference. You also can work when you are available, which, if you work, is probably when the most people are waiting in line anyway.

Good luck!! There is something we can all do. Find out the rules, educate yourself about all the candidates and issues, and you will be the person people will ask for advice as they get closer to making their decision.

Good idea

Thanks for the suggestion. Remember, we have work to do.

Darn good idea...if anything, we could learn a thing or two

about how the system works.

No offense to Ron Paul, but we should brainstorm ideas for us to do from now to election day and for election day.

I've posted this concept before...here goes again:

1. Take the freakin' day off. It not only gives you the opportunity to do the following, but also is sort of a strike. They (employers and government) like to think of us as labor, human resources, etc. We need to shake that up.

2. Pay off a credit card or some bill on that day. This is our Declaration of Independence from the global usurists. It says "I am going to get out of debt and stay out of debt." If you don't have debt, call a debtor and tell them how horrible they are and that they are on the American people's Most Wanted list. To help you get out of debt, I suggest DaveRamsey.com.

3. Close one or all accounts you have with a big bank. If you don't have an account, call them and tell them how horrible they are.

4. Buy a gun. Don't shoot it. Don't threaten anyone. Just buy it and put it away safely. If a millions of people buy guns on the same day, the powers that be would know that we are for real. Of course, learn how to use it properly.

5. Vote for a third party (or Ron Paul). Hand out Constitutions and Ron Paul flyers in the voting line. Since Ron Paul won't be on the ballot, I can't see how it is illegal.

6. As fanofwalt said, volunteer for your voting area.

7. Contact talk shows and tell them that we are onto their lies and that they had better straighten up.

8. Contact the Fed and tell them to disband.

9. March! Join a meetup and push for a march in your area.

10. At the end of the day, seek out bars where people will be celebrating the election and party with them...hand out Constitutions, debate issues, etc.

What else!
