UPDATED: How best to promote RP's 3rd party initiative:

***** VoteBuddy.org site updated today! *****

What follows is a strategy you can use to convince voters to dump the major parties and vote their consciences as Ron Paul argued at his press conference at the National Press Club on Sept. 10.

With characteristic brilliance, Ron Paul took aim at the disease rather than the symptom. The problem isn't that 3rd parties aren't successful, or that the majors are corrupt. The problem is that Americans don't vote their consciences and make it stick. (The "making it stick" part requires election reform; for now I'm talking about voter habits.)

The political duopoly has been running the same "good cop/bad cop" con on us for a long, long time. The two cops are on the same team, but pretend to have different agendas in order to get cooperation from their pigeons. Pigeons will differ as to which cop is the good one -- the one who promises to mess them up less than his partner.

At the National Press Club event, one questioner identified himself as Sam Husseini, and I immediately knew who he was (and suspected what he would say). Sam and I have both promoted an idea that is tailor made to help voters break away from the duopoly.

Sam described this strategy: A reluctant Republican and a disgusted Democrat would normally hold their noses and vote for their party's candidate, only because they hated the other candidate more. (That fact is what has trapped voters into doing the same thing, election after election, while hoping each time for different results -- Einstein's definition of insanity). In order to free themselves to vote for candidates they REALLY like without worrying about the horse race between the majors, here's what they do.

They get together and agree, "I won't vote for my rotten Republican if you won't vote for your dirty Democrat, and then we can each vote our consciences for a change!"

Note that by taking one vote away from each major party candidate, nothing changes in that horse race. With this buddy system, votes can be liberated two by two across the country, no longer hostage to the duopoly's con game.

For details, see Sam's website, votepact.org, or visit my site, VoteBuddy.org. Sam's site is more up-to-date and has more comprehensive offerings, while I think my site gives a user-friendlier explanation of the strategy.

I think you can see how this strategy can help convince voters that they don't need to keep voting for the lesser evil, and have a way to vote their consciences with peace of mind. They'll be ready to join our political reform movement!

Please keep bumping this post. I'll see if I can get it up on Digg, too.

website updated

I've just completed a quick update for the 2008 election for the VoteBuddy.org website mentioned here.

Oh -- I should also mention that Digg.com wouldn't let me create an entry from this domain, which they said had been flagged many times for terms-of-use violations. My guess is that it was flagged by neocons and Digg for whatever reason didn't ask for the other side of the story. At any rate, maybe I'll post a version of this entry on VoteBuddy.org and send THAT to Digg.

sign the open debates petition

"We, the undersigned, support Open Debates' campaign to reform the presidential debate process. We believe that the presidential debates should serve the American people first, not political parties. We support replacing the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates with the nonpartisan Citizens' Debate Commission, so that inspiring formats can be employed, pressing national issues can be addressed, and popular independent and third party candidates can be included."

Instead of begging ...

is may be more effective to make a demand with teeth. What am I talking about?

How about a petition of people who promise to boycott the sponsors of any network that broadcasts presidential debates held by the CPD that exclude the four major third party/independent candidates?

short term memory . . .

When Ron Paul was going to be excluded from one of the debates, many people contacted someone I don't remember if it was the sponsor or the Party, but it was effective. I think you are thinking in the right direction.

I'm not trying to burst your bubble...

but Ron Paul said himself on Wolf Blitzer's, CNN, that the reason he wants people to vote third party, is because he does not want Obama to be elected. If change is going to happen, it's not going to happen this time around, plain and simple. I'm just trying to figure out why my hero Paul would rather have McCain as our next President as opposed to Obama. I mean he could have said he is trying to help McCain lose votes. Maybe he said it that way because he wants to keep his seat in the Republican House. What do you guys think?

You're taking that out of context.....

What he said was....HE as a Republican does not want to see Obama win...and so he is hoping that folks that would normally vote for the "lesser of two evils" Obama will actually choose Nader or McKinney....AND....that someone that would normally choose the "lesser of two evils" McCain should vote for Baldwin or Barr.

He is a REPUBLICAN and agrees with the Rebublican Platform (from the Taft days) but atleast finish his sentence if you're going to present his comments on here. If you missed it during the interview then you need to watch it again...and LISTEN this time.

Thanks JanBrennan1970

You are right!

It's your choice

Ron Paul's message to us is:

You can choose to vote or not vote.

It would be better if you did choose to vote.

If you choose to vote, consider voting for one of the three candidates who have agreed with Ron Paul on the four principles; Foreign Policy, Privacy, the National Debt, and the Federal Reserve.

Ron Paul would prefer that you not write in his name. Instead vote for Baldwin, McKineny or Nader--your choice.

Talk with those individuals who are thinking about voting for McCain or Obama only because they think they have to choose between the lesser of two evils. Explain to them that they do have other choices--the three candidates that agree on the four principles. The object is to draw these voters away from the Republican and Democrat candidates and make a statement that there is a majority of voters who do not agree with the Republican or Democratic monoply. Your vote and one more vote doubles the number of votes for the cause of liberty.

It is not critical for Chuck Baldwin, Cynthia McKinney, or Ralph Nader to win the election, although it is possible. This may be hard for many of us to accept. It is more important that all of us NOT vote for a Republican or Democratic candidate because we think that we do not have a choice.

Ron Paul is not going to tell you who to vote for in this election.

Let's start talking to those around us who think they do not have a choice. The Republican and Democratic machines would like you to think otherwise.

What do you choose to do?

Its so good to not vote for the lesser of two evils

and vote for something you believe in. Its like a weight is lifted off my shoulders. I listen to the trash talk between the Rep./Dem. with no focus on the issues...they are a bunch of idiots.

Remember...lets use this consensus...there is more than one

rEVOLution Money Bomb Nov 5th

For third parties..
Need to get the Meetup Unity thing happening
Get the Ron Paul rEVOLutionaries to teach the Grassroots of third parties how to make banners and chase Hannity into his office...
Need YouTubes with great music and movie clips to make the point... red pill blue pill = pills

IOWs rEVOlutionaries need to do what we did for Ron Paul for these other candidates and teach their supporters how we did it..and yet, we must keep our passion for the Ron Paul rEVOLution Campaign for Liberty and Unity Ticket strong with Daily Paul and other Ron Paul resources.

We are going in so many directions,

I think the organizers' of CFL and money bombs etc. really need to plan how the money will be used EFFECTIVELY.
Then they need to communicate a clear strategy to us; yes I want to support the best plan/s, but just saying contribute to a money bomb isn't enough.
Do I contribute to VotePact, Open Debvates, Vote Buddy, money bomb, CFL, all of the above?
It is wonderful there are so many taking positive action, but how to choose which to focus on?
I know freedom means we each make our individual choices, I just wonder if there is anyone left in CFL who is not flooded out, stressed out, etc., to give any rough guidance. Is the Daily Paul the main organizing think tank left at this critical time?

Changing the consciousness of the American Voter

The Republic can not be restored unless the voters start voting their conscience. Once that happens, the free market place of ideas will determine who wins. Since we all know most people vote for the lesser of 2 evils, we have a vein to tap.
God bless all of you,
What a journey!

I forgot something . . .

You are the majority, Vote 3rd party!

LivingTheDream

Nice Idea

That's a pretty good idea.

Another idea is to answer the old "throwing away your vote" argument. People in heavily Red or Blue states, voting either Republican or Democrat, are throwing away their vote.

If you live in one of those states send a message, vote 3rd party or write in Ron Paul.

Yes!

We've been using that argument, too -- glad you brought it up. The votes from those who lean toward a state's majority party aren't needed for that party to win, and votes for the underdog will be wasted anyway (unless they're votes of conscience).

And for Underdogs

Even if they have no interest in 3rd parties, a three party system may be the only way Reds in a Blue state and Blues in a Red state will ever have their vote counted in a national election.
