Felt like "Martial Law" in Los Angeles!
In my life I have never seen anything like this! My niece got married today. The Wedding festivities ended at midnight. On my way home on the opposite side of the #60 freeway going into Downtown L. A. I see very large trucks w/flashing lights - about 25 to 30 - lined up to form a single-file line for cars to follow to be stopped by at least 2 dozen police! This is on a 5-lane freeway, mind you!
Thousands of cars and thousands of unsuspecting people are experiencing for the first time in their lives, the full impact of what a police state is all about this morning, folks! The freeway looks like a parking lot!
As I transitioned to the northbound Golden State Frwy, aka the #5 Freeway, which starts at the Canadian border and runs through Washington State, through Oregon and all the way through California to the Mexican border, just before I get to downtown L. A. on my side of the freeway I see the same thing in the distance. Again, lots of trucks w/flashing lights and tons of cars stopping ahead of me to be herded to the checkpoint.
So, I quickly and fortunately got off at the very next offramp and tried to get on, again, further up the road. However, there were several arrows on the streets for people to follow - seemingly to take you on a detour to another on ramp - but, no; they only led to more check points!
Because I know my city like the back of my hand, I managed to evade the check points by going through neighborhood streets until I could finally get back onto the freeway some distance beyond the checkpoint. I live in Burbank and I couldn't get onto the northbound Golden State Frwy until I passed Griffith park which is about 3 to 4 miles beyond where the check point started on the freeway on my side (about 6 to 7 miles from where I first noticed the check point on the opposite side of the freeway!)
Every single one of those 3 to 4 miles on my side had cars w/mulitple passengers in them and the cars were at a complete stop waiting for their turn to be chuted in like cattle to be asked for their papers (?) and to be questioned by the cops (for possible DUI?). I would say, there were, at least, 3 to 4 and maybe even 5 thousand cars, approximately, on both sides of the checkpoints waiting to get through the. Unbelievable!!
Never in my 61 years have I ever seen anything like this before!!
I saw at least 25 tow trucks pulling vehicles away from the check point areas. I'm very much in shock and very fortunate to know my way around my city to have avoided what is still going on as I type this message. I had such a wonderful day only to be knocked back to the ugly reality of what is happening to us in our country, Martial Law! IT'S SCARY OUT THERE!!

I drove
from Idaho to the Los Angeles area on Saturday as I work down here and have for the last 9 years. At the check point on the 15 south just before you get into Barstow, I noticed they had a truck hooked to a boat stopped in one of the stalls and were dismantling parts off of the back end of it by the jet. Not sure if it's even relevant to this thread but I must say it's the first time I've ever seen that there in 9 years. It's an agricultural checkpoint so why they were dismantling a boat is beyond me. The only thing I've ever been asked there is "do you have any fruits or vegetables". I also sometimes come down through Bishop California on the 395/138. They have a Check point on that route as well that up until this last year has never been open. Well it is open now every single time I drive through.

PLEASE do NOT stand for ut.
PLEASE do NOT stand for ut. CALL the LAPD, call the Mayor, Call the city council. Tell them all this is unconstitutional and you will not stand for it. Yell and yell..write a letter to the editor or call radio shows or something. Tell someone else to do something if they are outraged. Please do what you can. With all The People in LA, this should be ROARED about...
Most people don't know their rights and some don't care.....
There was an old story, is basically that:
If you throw a frog into a pot of boiling water, it will leap right back out. But if you put a frog in a pot of water on the stove and then heat it up to boiling, you'll boil the frog because it never quite realized that it's being cooked until its muscles and brain are slightly too cooked to jump out....I beleive the American people are in a sense being boiled, we have been condition to think it's ok that our rights are slowly strip from us....That the the Goverment has our best interest at heart, so many people are living their life like nothing is wrong in this world , do they have us that wrap tight that we can't see the maddness taking place...I also believe there is a reason why things must happen, the Revolution came at the right time because it is us and many other groups that will take back this country.. We must take the torch that our forefathers pass down to us and continue to past it down....(If it's not us then who?, if it's not now , then when?)......"Let's beat them at their own game"!!!

What if you have ibs ? is the checkpoint still there? I am going through there soon. Are there Los Angeles Portable Toilets available along the route?.
Any updates as to what/who they are looking for?
Can't be huge drunk-test....

Awaiting word too; however, it may not be DUI-related
I cannot comment as to the reasons behind yogmama's checkpoint report, but I can tell you that in San Diego County, they routinely perform checkpoints to see whether drivers are currently licensed and/or insured. See this for reference. Failing either of those checks gets your car immediately towed and impounded -- see this.
They probably also check for DUI and whatever else suits their fancy, but DUI is not the advertised reason for those particular checkpoints.
Again, I humbly suggest that simply because an event is not reported by the media, that does not in and of itself mean the event did not occur. Perhaps you all can recall some events which took place over the past 18 months that the MSM failed to mention.
Still, I would hope that out of the thousands of people who would have been affected by last night's traffic, someone at least might make mention of it in a blog entry even.
With the aftermath of Ike...
I doubt any station, other than local channels, would even mention it.
From the scope of it, I can't see this as a normal event...even for L.A.
We have traffic checks here in NJ as well but usually within the city. It sounds lke thy are shutting down major thoroughfares to accomplish this.

I've changed the title of this post because ...
although everything I have related to you in the body of the post is true, because I witnessed it myself, I believe that the checkpoints on both sides of the freeways were, in fact, DUI checkpoints. I initially called it "Martial Law" because of the extreme nature of having checkpoints on the Golden State Freeway, an interstate, and because of the great number of people being stopped! I've been to several Dodger baseball games and have had to wait behind that many cars just to get into the stadium. It freaked me out because it was so overwhelming and felt very threatening. Cops didn't cause me that much concern in the recent past because I worked w/them in L. A. County Superior Court where I reported thousands of felony cases. I am a retired court reporter. Nowadays the atmosphere is different!
If there is no report of it in the news, I don't know why not. However, I'll find support of it and post that support of last night's events here when I get it. It did happen.
Thank you for changing your title...
and for expanding on what you witnessed, along with why you were so scared. Please keep us informed if you find out why this was being done. Thanks again.
Careful
I have no reason to doubt these blockades or that your encounter was false, but the title was alarming. When I saw the headline, I thought something went terribly wrong and was prepared to make some calls to colleagues and mobilize until I saw what was going on I'm glad that it was a false alarm, for now.
I'm glad you posted the info here, but I would ask that before you jump the gun, take a moment and make sure of what was going on first. Old grunt rule of thumb: 9 out of 10 times, the first ground intel is incorrect or incomplete.
Yes; you're correct ...
my former title was alarming. I wrote it immediately after getting home and I was sort of in "shock" you might say. The site of the immense amount of people in their cars being stopped on the freeway spooked me. It was a "first" for me. Sorry if I mislead anyone. I never want to do that here at the DP.
Another thank you
for changing the title..Sorry I called you a dolt :o)
Better read the
definition of "Martial Law"??
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martial_law
I do disagree with these type of un-Constitutional stops....but to post a headline like this just causes trouble. I thought something bad happened.
No reason to post like this...
The proper headline would be something like...
"Big UN-Constitutional stop in California:thousands of cars in line."]
Your headline is a cause for panic.....not good.
THANKS FOR CHANGING THE HEADLINE!!!
Fear is the Mark of a Slave
The time has come to resist. If everyone battles these checkpoints with "Why are you stopping me? Am I free to go?" we can be like YouTube user and Doctor Paul supporter RP4409 and get sent to prison. Count me in.

Overwhelming Support FOR Driving Checkpoints
Few may resist, but be prepared to have all the neighbors in your area help the unconstitutional forces by yelling out that if we are resisting, then we "must" have something to hide. Also, if they are complying, then it's only fair that all must comply.
We battle not only those in uniform who act unconstitutionally; we also battle uninformed sheep, which is a much larger herd.
I also point once again to this article as well as this one.
Incidentally, I have been searching online for news about yogmama's report, and have come up dry. That in and of itself does not necessarily mean this is a false story, however.
Hi FOW
This is precisely the strategy. We can act like we have something to hide. Then ambush them with cameras and witnesses and reveal there was nothing to hide for all to see. That the criminal is the one in the uniform.
I realize many will be afraid to take our revolution to the next non-violent loving step. It is a personal decision. I'm already fighting the good fight daily. I have about 20 officers as friends now. Not bad starting from 0 when I got to my new home a few months ago. They all know about Doctor Paul and they all call me a genius as I've taught them all vortex math. I still think I'm a stupid ignorant fool, but don't worry, the trolls and those who simply cannot love will be along to confirm that for me to give me confidence in my negative side (which they are welcome to kiss.)

Scary Stuff
I would need some pictures or a news story or something to take this one to heart. Got anything for us?

If it's meant to be it's up to WE!
As a former resident of
As a former resident of southern California I can tell you that I lived there in the mid-8o's when the transformation to the nations leading police state was beginning to be obvious. I learned about California police road block/inspection points when California passed it's "primary enforcement" seat belt law in 1992. The first thing they did was to roll out road blocks to CHECK SEAT BELT COMPLIANCE!!!
All road blocks were considered unconstitutional interference with the Fourth Amendment right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure until the Supreme Court made an exception for DUI law enforcement in the case Michigan State Police v Stitz 1990. Since then any road block has been acceptable if it can be seen to serve some law enforcement goal. California is the leader in the use of road blocks now for flimsy reason. Where I live, in Wisconsin, I have never seen a road block in 14 years and we have no "primary" seat belt law, no "Proof of Insurance" law and no motorcycle helmet law.
A lot of Daily Paul listeners will be amazed to learn that Southern California has random vehicle emissions check points where they pull your vehicle up on a portable dynamometer and run it through a full emissions test.
This all makes me quite sad because I once loved Southern California very much and have many quite fond memories of my time there. By the mid 90's though I was becoming physically sick from the oppressive police state atmosphere that pervades almost all areas of life there.
Any pictures
New reports out of L.A.? Anything. For now this is just hearsay. I could whip up this concoction also. All it takes is a great imagination. Anyone can be a story teller.
