READ THIS AND REALIZE---THIS RACE IS NOT OVER !!!!

Controversies surrounding Libertarian U.S. presidential nominee and former congressman Bob Barr rose to new levels on Friday afternoon.

There is now a serious effort by some in the Libertarian Party to remove Barr as its presidential nominee. In order for this to happen, the matter must be voted upon by members of the Libertarian National Committee. A motion has been written calling for Barr's removal and at least one representative has expressed a willingness to make it. If and when the motion is seconded, it will be brought to voting. The motion can be read in its entirety below.

Barr has been decreasing rapidly in voter popularity since his last minute refusal to attend former Republican presidential hopeful Congressman Ron Paul's third party unity conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on Wednesday.

Barr instead decided to hold a press conference of his own two hours after Paul's at the same location.

"I'm not interested in third parties getting the most possible votes," Barr told reporters. "I'm interested in Bob Barr as the nominee for the Libertarian Party getting the most possible votes."

Several of Barr's supporters were furious with his remarks, some even going so far as to retract their endorsements of him. Bloggers quickly picked up on the story and by Thursday evening there was an Internet frenzy, which continued into Friday.

[edit] Removal motion

WHEREAS, Article 12, Section 5 of the Libertarian Party’s bylaws provide for the suspension of the party’s presidential candidate by the Libertarian National Committee; and

WHEREAS, said bylaws provision requires a 3/4 vote of this body; BE IT KNOWN that Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party’s 2008 presidential nominee, is hereby suspended on the basis of the following causes:

- Failure to appear, with little or no notice, at a major media event to which he had been invited and to which he had committed to appear;

- Vicious public attacks by his campaign staff on the character and reputation of the event’s host (1988 Libertarian Party presidential nominee Ron Paul) and sponsor (Campaign For Liberty);

- The disrepute and discredit which the aforementioned misbehaviors have brought upon the Libertarian Party.

The committee advises Barr that he has seven (7) days to appeal this action to the party’s Judicial Committee. Absent a successful appeal, his nomination will be deemed null and void and he will be replaced as the party’s presidential nominee.

PLEASE IF YOU HAVE ANY IMAGINATION OR HOPE WHATSOEVER...GO HERE NOW AND SIGN THIS http://www.gopetition.com/online/21715.html ...WE WILL LET DR PAUL KNOW IN THE LOUDEST WAY WE CAN....TO THROW HIS WEIGHT BEHIND THIS OPEN DOOR ...either officially or unofficially....AND ALLOW US TO BRING HIM THE PRESIDENCY.... for if you haven't figured it out the Libertarians will most likely put him on the ballot..or the electors will pledge to vote for him publicly should they not be able to remove his name...in some or all the states...

You want to (mis)use

this situation to force Dr. Paul - against his will and intention - to run under the LP ticket??
Please STOP IT!!!!

You show NO RESPECT for Dr. Paul and his wise decisions!

Sure, he could get the LP nomination with no problem and would have done that if the thought there was a chance to win. Face it, there is NO chance he can win
Let us do some math: He would have more support now than during the GOP primaries, and let us say Dr. Paul can get 25-33% of the Republican vote and say 10-15% of the Democratic vote plus some Independents. This will still not be enough and then he has considerable less money than McBama and almost no media and no debates and only ballot access in 46 or 47 states, not 49/50.
If he would theoretically run now, he could start with 10% plus in the polling, but he will not get much media exposure and be mostly asked the spoiler question (as Barr and Nader also faces) and with no debate access, he has no real chance to move to 30-33%.
It is in any case too late to change the LP ballot access.

Alright, I've given a digg

Alright, I've given a digg to this effort... let's see what happens next.

...

great!! I wonder..how do we find out the names...

of the electors;...for the LP ?? anyone know??

digg #167

....keep it up

Barr had my vote

I would have voted for Barr but his lack of graciousness prevents me now.

Without humility and grace a man should never run a country.

Little men should stay away from high political places. They can cause too much damage.

Barr has been

acting disappointingly, but you can still vote for him. He is NOT going to win the election, and he would in any case cause much less damage than McBama if he were to be elected president.
It is crucially important that third parties, especially the LP and CP perform as best as possible, so as to put pressure and also possibly form the basis of support for a new party and show strength.

157 diggs! Keep it going!

I'd vote for Ruwart, Kubby, or Smith.

By failing to take Barr out, the Libertarian Party will only marginalize itself. I'd hate to see that happen to the party, but leadership, traditionally, has never been a strong point in the libertarian movement.

Yanking out Barr/Root would help the party--failing to do so would strengthen the Constitution Party.

Perhaps it's just the Constitution Party's time to rise up, and the Libertarians' time to fall.

Why the LP didnt nominate and honest man

Like Mike Gavel I dont know.

Barr appears to be a

Barr appears to be a libertarian in name only, and, as Nolan pointed out, he doesn't even use the name. I'd put him and Gravel on equal footing.

Mike Gravel did run in the

Libertarian party your right though it seems they ignored him cause of his veiws He sure wouldnt have made a ass of himself like Barr.

Its not bob barr were voting for

its his electors and if THEY would rather vote for Paul then leave Barr alone, leave Barrs name on the ballot. "Dont swap asses in the middle of a stream" Abraham Lincoln.

Ron Paul "Sign Wave Across the USA" -- November 5th!

Libertarian Party

Came on the scene last year with a vengeance, Ron Paul running on the republican ticket focused allot olf attention their way. I met lots of like minded Libertarian's while campaigning for Ron Paul and have thought about joining the party a few times. The decision of the Libertarian Party to put bob barr up for president made that a no brainier, they were seriously screwed in the head.

Now I will see if the can see their mistake and correct it, there still may be hope for them but I don't think so.

This bob barr issue is a big deal, if the Libertarian Party plans on becoming another same ol same ol, there is no need for them.

What is

Ron Paul's stance on third party runs this year? Oh thats right he said "no". Forcing a man to go back on his word is not a part of liberty. Why not grab a gun an hold it to his head. You would get the same outcome.

JUST MAKE VENTURA the nominee.

I dont think he would want it, because I think he wants a year and a half to ramp up a presidential campaign.... MAKE a ton of appearances and speeches, OR it actually might help him. If alot of people dont know he is in the 911 truth movement, now might be the time to run... I think Ventura with his popularity and common sense is about the only 3rd party candidate I think has a shot at putting a dent in the republicrats...

Need to get national polling REAL quick to get him in the debates.

Freedom may be worth searching for.

Remember, Dont battle the govt with guns(ALONE), Beat them in court, in state legislature, or hire Ron Paul for president.

I agree

I agree....I hope they offer it to Ventura....just his name alone would AUTOMATICALLY put him in the 10-20% popularity rating....giving him enough in the polls to get in the debates.

Once Ventura is in the debates....the very first time he gets to open his mouth he will show ALL AMERICA what a REAL AMERICAN with BACKBONE looks like.

The body of americans needs to vote for THE BODY.

If there is one thing about

If there is one thing about Dr. Paul that has been absolutely predictable it is that he follows his plan and does what he says. He has said repeatedly that he will not run as a 3rd party candidate. He has given us no reason to doubt his word.

Ventura, now there is a different possibility. Is he the absolute, best choice in the country for president? Not by a long shot. BUT, he does have some redeeming characteristics. Most certainly he would be a freedom candidate. He is a flamboyant, colorful character. He knows how to work a crowd. He is very, very hard to ignore. Of all potential candidates he may well have the best chance to get elected. If chosen, I would love to see him offer the VP slot to Chuck Baldwin and form the temporary alliance with the CP that could win.

Pat

BOHICA!!

Silly

You have too much time on your hands. Shouldn't you be happy about something else?

You seem to have lost sight of the goal: freedom, small government or whatever it is you think the movement is about.

This is exactly like getting excited that a white supremacist donated to Ron Paul and just as significant.

The LP nominee is an irrelevant placeholder.

There are the LP nominees since 1972... and the percentage of the popular vote each got.

1972: John Hospers; 2,691 popular votes (0.003%)
1976: Roger MacBride; 173,011 popular votes (0.21%)
1980: Ed Clark; 921,299 popular votes (1.1%)
1984: David Bergland; 228,705 popular votes (0.25%)
1988: Ron Paul; 432,179 popular votes (0.47%)
1992: Andre Marrou; 291,627 popular votes (0.28%)
1996: Harry Browne; 485,798 popular votes (0.50%)
2000: Harry Browne; 384,431 popular votes (0.36%)
2004: Michael Badnarik; 397,367 popular votes (0.34%)

How many of these names do you even recognize?
These are mostly meaningless names, whose only purpose is to hold a place for those few of us who insist on voting for liberty first.
Bob Barr is that meaningless placeholder today, that's all.
Replacing one meaningless placeholder with another is stupid.
But, whatever. You could put any other name in that slot, but as long as it's the LP nominee, those of us who put liberty first will still vote for that "person". Others who put anything other than liberty first will not. It could be John Doe, Mickey Mouse, Adolph Hitler, George Bush, Barack Obama, John McCain.... it doesn't matter. It really doesn't.

Besides, in many states it's too late to change the ballot.

This is stupid.

Ventura is not a meaningless placeholder

Venturas name alone would garner at least 20% popularity in the polls.

He would be the best candidate that the Libertarian party could hope for.

Ventura has the one thing that Ron Paul doesn't .....and that is an "IN YOUR FACE" demeanor.....Dr. Paul has many strengths but this was one of his weaknesses....as seen in the debates (anyone remember Anderson Cooper??).

Ventura would never be SHUT DOWN and he would never let somebody tell him to SHUT UP.

This country is RIPE for Ventura.....I just hope that Ventura is ripe to run.

I agree

Well, I do recognize Paul's name in 1988.
I do feel Barr made a mistake by not attending and some of his personnel made some unfortunate statements, but the whole issue is now overblown. Exactly, it is already too late, even to change VP I think. I'm sure Barr will sort out the issue with Dr. Paul in the next few days... The Barr haters from the CP should remember that Barr and Baldwin had a radio program a few years ago over the Patriot Act and CP founder - Howard Phillips -is also a friend of Barr.
The enemy is McBama!

This is most appropriate

I was really hoping for this based on all things leading up to his 'fatal flaw'.

This Should Never Be About Expediency....

...or opportunism of using hind site to now select a more competetive candidate.

The fact is Barr has shown his true colors as a representative only of the asshole wing of the Libertarian Party.

Regardless of the effect on this election cycle, for the sake of redemption of self image and reputation, the rank and file should not permit Barr and his ilk to continue to carry their standard.

http://www.dailypaul.com/node/61287

Even if the LP dumps Barr...

..would Paul even be allowed to run? Plus, Dr. Paul has already, repeatedly stated that he has no designs on the presidency or running as a third party candidate.

So what's the plan here?

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

YES BUT NEITHER DID GEORGE WASHINGTON...

...and he was drafted anyways....

man I tell ya if thes dumped

man I tell ya if they dumped barr and offered Ron Paul and Ron could take Ventura as his running mate they would win! I don't think there is any question about it! I know the CP would back it.. this gets interesting!
