"better Programming " becoming mandatory
I'm sure you have all been inundated with the commercials for digital programming and how it's becoming mandatory in 2009.
It made me think , first off I hate the thought of "Programming" and in fact I know that even in digital video games experiments have been done to addict kids to the games.
Once everyone has digital programming in their homes are we all going to be made into completely mindless robots ?
Don't think of it as tv anymore , do you know how many things can be hidden in digital tv ? did you know that it can be reversed to look out ?
This whole concept scares me a little. I've always stayed away from TV except to watch golf on a hungover morning or to have it on in the background while I practice scales on my guitar.
I suppose i should confess I'm also an "american Idol" fan :(
I only have rabbit ears and it is definately not digital.
anyone else worried about this transition?

Hello? Is anybody paying attention?
A digital set has within it or can be put within it broadcasting chips to relay whatever information is desired. Remember when the cell phones did NOT have GPS locator chips? If GPS locator and telemetry chips can be put into tiny cell phones then they and their big brother chips can easily be put into larger living room sized TV sets. As laws have been introduced and passed to "allow" full-time any-time surveillance for any and no reason whatsoever then we can assume these chips are indeed already inside digital TVs and are already broadcasting all kinds of information to the snopes and control freaks.
Do you think all this is new? Sixteen (16) years ago we discovered the built in fire alarm system in a business we were working with had an embedded microphone that allowed the security alarm firm to overhear all conversations within certain rooms. When questioned they admitted to listening in and SHARING those conversations because "it was part of the security system's installation agreement."
Welcome to Prison America....
another reason I'm glad
we made the decision to ditch the tube 11 or so years ago..
It is an evil tool... No one we knew could understand that decision. They thought we were nuts!!!
I am very worried
I don't want to update but am afraid my husband will want it. I want to throw the thing out. Peace
Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.
YES - horrified, actually
Look into "brainwave entrainment."
They do it now with TV and that brought us the greatest mass-hypnosis ever perpetrated, the 9-11 myth. It will take a few years, but it will become increasingly like "The Matrix" and you and I will live in a shadow world.
Unless we STOP THIS CRAP NOW. We CANNOT accept the McBama non-choice. No one likes my idea (no FRNs traded in November, including mortgages and loans, and no one offers an alternative. Very frustrating.)
Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.
TV is a sickness if you watch more than 20 minutes of it day
And even then you should be able to find time to do something productive.
I was watching the news and damn there area lot fat people in Texas that were getting carted around.
Did they refuse to evacuate because they would miss their favorite show on the tube?

LOL
LOL
id like to point out that
id like to point out that this isnt something new that just sort of swept along one day in late 2008 and they decided to roll out in 2009. this update is something thats been p lanned as far back as i remember in 2003 and was supposed to be implemented by 2006. its funny how news like that never really gains traction though.
Lol That's nothing, Imagine the list of travel records
logged on everyone that has a GPS unit or TomTom in their car. ; } OnStar is even worse, people can listen in on your conversations whenever they want. It almost makes keeping an older car around (pre-GPS) a survival necessity in this day and age. Wait until they start demanding those records also, every time someone goes to court for something. - " Gee Mr. Johnson... It shows here that your car was at the liquor store 4 times this week.... and your Grocery Store and CVS magnetic card account records also show that....."
And to think that these ignorant idiots we live among in America don't seem to be remotely fazed about a Real I.D. card and some have even been duped into thinking it's a great idea to protect us from the evil terrorists. Little do they know, as history has taught us with Social Security cards, it will become the "all around, swipe it for everything, Uni-card, record keeper..."
In the future, I predict, even I-Pods with the ever so helpful GPS ability. "Never get lost again while jogging."
" I will not be assimilated into the Borg collective."
My sister told me at dinner
My sister told me at dinner last night that you can now get microchips with GPS for your pets. So, if your pet gets lost it can be found from a long distance away (probably from an internet site).
If it is available for pets, how long do you think it'll be before children can have them? And then how long before it is mandatory??
this is already being implemented
It is on a voluntary basis now to have babies microchipped. many have already done this.

Where have you been?
NAIDS is now a tracking device in all animals, cows, horses, even fish to track our food supply.
The chip is in your drivers license and passport, as well as cell phones and GPS units.
They are chipping newborns "in case someone steals them" - putting the fear in mothers.
They are marketing chips for the elderly so they can have all their financial and health info "right at their finger tips" - not to mention their will.
YOUR chip is waiting for you as well - RealID = NationalID = mandatory Chip for YOU!
Again, where have you been? We, here in PA have been fighting this for a couple years!
NAIS, another pet project of
the United Nations, with a little help from it's friends...
It's scary when your family pet goes missing. This type tech, was first use to locate lost pets....how appealing to the populace. That's the way they play the game. By degrees.........
FDA, along with the 4H club are enticing kids with trinkets (hats, burgers) to "register" for NAIS. The property on which the animal dwells will be tagged with a 7digit number. In some cases the property owner is toally unaware his property has been "tagged". Also on board to help impliment this Federal program is the FFA.
One of the first states to require 4H,FFA compliant with this "voluntary" mandated program was CO. In 2007 at the State Fair in Illinois, young 4H members were being told they had to got through this process to enter their livestock in any competition...........
On star
dude i know canyou imagine how stupid a person would have to be to allow someone to put ON Star into their car ? The car can be located anywhere and the lock can be popped remotely from miles away. I wouldn't feel real safe about letting any stranger have that type of ability. No thanks, I've been all over the US and Canada in my life and got along perfectly well with a Perlies Map book.

Don't forget to pull the battery out of your cell phone if you want a private conversation.

All you have to do to get your *free* cable box coupon
is contact the government. Reminds me way too much of George Orwell's depiction of everyone being forced to have a telescreen in their living room all blaring the same propaganda.
Will these new cable boxes have chips implanted in them? I haven't had rabbit ears in years but this new transition is all very suspicious.
blakmira
In Jan 08 I went to there gov site and ordered two coupons, thats the most that you can have. plus each coupon is only a $20 discount coupon, these boxs can cost up to $60 each, P.S (I still haven't gotten my coupons) This is our government at work. Go figure :(
I have heard a story
I have heard a story Catherine Austin Fitts (former Assitant Sec to HUD and Wall Street Banker) tells about when she was working on Wall St in 1983 she was at a cocktail party and overheard a conversation she was not supposed to be privy to .Basically after she listened to these Wall St advertisers she was so freaked out she went home and threw away her TV.She has no problem in believing in subliminal programming.

thanks for posting this
i watched those 3 linked videos and they were really interesting...
She has a website
http://solari.com/
I first heard her on the freecapitalist.com internet radio and was quite intrigued with her story of how, in the Clinton years, Freddie and Fannie were deliberately loaning money to those they KNEW could not pay it back; in fact, they were "loaning" money to the same people over and over - some even fictitious.
When she complained to her supervisor, she was told to mind her own business.
They were making money on the bubble and prepared to make money on the burst - well, we all know what happened. How many people made billions off that sweet deal?
She used to have the story on her website, but last time I visited, it was missing from the archives.
Whatever..
In the day & age of DVR's & YouTube, does anyone really believe subliminal messaging can sneak its way by the public?
29.97 frames per second in NTSC. Analog or digital, makes no difference, it is still 29.97 FPS.
Movie theaters used to be paid to stick a frame for "popcorn" or "refreshing coca-cola" as subliminal messaging at 24 FPS and people still caught on, this was before any kind of youtube or even the computer age.
At any rate, the whole concept is moot because the frame rate doesn't change going to digital, if anything it would make it easier to detect.
Hogwash to the concept of DTV being some mind-control device, but I did post (several comments below) the effects this DTV conversion might have on the smaller, independant content providers. In effect this could be an effort by the MSM to completely eliminate outside perspectives, which is what I think we should be worried about instead of some phantom mind-control crapola.

ATSC
Digital TV uses ATSC, which supports 23.976 to 60 FPS.
However, I doubt hidden subliminal messages will be an issue, but you never know what a government empowered corporation will try to get more sales.
Regardless, the source of the problem with businesses is that we are letting the government do more than we should allow.
My point was the programming
My point was the programming is ALREADY here... it's done a great job on you
Uh huh
Obviously, MSM has done a great job brainwashing ME since here I am, on DailyPaul, supporting a cause they ridicule and call "kooky". :-)
If you bothered to read the full text of my post (as well as the one I referenced a bit further down in the thread) you would see I was agreeing with you on the whole "MSM programming = retardation of the American Public" concept, just not the rest, particularly not some notion of subliminal messaging being pushed into the broadcasts.
But yes, we definitely agree on the programming and thank you for the link, it was enjoyable to watch (I am being sincere, no sarcasm implied).

in 2004
in 2004, when i voted for kerry, i used to think that i wasn't one of the sheep, either. i said, "wow, look at all these idiots voting for bush." it was incredible to me that these people were voting for bush.
to me, they were all sheep.
but now, i see that i was one of the sheep the entire time.
getting in line to pull a lever for a candidate that i didn't care for.
uptop, I said the same thing
They upped the ante, it is not subliminal messages they use. Check out brainwave entrainment. The CDs are available at Bed, Bath and Beyond (or they used to be.) You can use them to help study or sleep, etc. We took it to the extreme to try to help a health problem and I can assure you, the possibilities are frightening. We had a rather minor programming error that sent me into a screaming, crying fit in about 10 minutes. It does work and here is the "real life" example I can give you. Watch some spooky movie scene on a good TV with stereo, then watch it on an older or smaller one with only one speaker, or adjust it so one speaker is off. At least half the tension created is in the music, and that is where the effect is embedded.
My "crazy" theory is that the frequency of our appliances and gadgets may be tuned to be a constant irritant, too. But, I have never looked into that, just wondered.

i think you have reason to be suspicious
any time we artificially create something that the market could not do on its' own, is a definite sign of some sort of lobbyist intent.
now, proponents will tell you we are only intending to have more channels, with more quality, but that just isn't reasonable to me.
i smell something fishy. i wonder if digital tv makes it near impossible to detect subliminal messages
I don't think you have any reason to be suspicious
Because there are a lot of things the market won't do on its' own simply due to the fact they don't control things like FCC bandwidth availability (and subsequent auctions of airwaves). That's why the market forces hire lobbyists to have gov't pass legislation and make things like DTV mandatory.
Now unfortunately once DTV is mandatory for the MSM and they have all switched over, TV set manufacturers will probably be less likely to include analog tuners in their sets, which will result in all the smaller (read: non-special interest controlled) stations to either lose viewers or go through cost-prohibitive upgrades to their equipment.
MSM: 1,800 stations
Smaller, non-special interest controlled: 7000+ stations
It's just the market at work through the system we have in place. The big guys always want to flex their muscles to squeeze out the competition.
Is there anyone on DailyPaul with experience in the TV industry? Do we even know how much it is costing the 25% of stations with 90% of the TV revenue to upgrade to DTV? Is this something that would shut down the smaller stations?

the difference being
the difference being that it will cost taxpayers a hoard of dollars to put in place a mandatory television system. read: forced system paid for by adding in the national debt.
do you believe that digital television is for the bettering of america?
