Why Did Ron Not Vote To Impeach Cheney Yesterday?

I'm sure there is a very good explanation why the good doctor voted against Kucinich's proposal. Does anyone know the answer?

Impeachment is simply a legal statement that there are charges that should be brought to court. There is nothing in the constitution that says that impeachment litigation needs to be reviewed by the Judiciary branch. In fact after congress votes on impeachment it must be voted by a second body of government before it can even go to court. Impeachment is not a judgement of guilt, it is a statement that there is evidence that should be looked at in court. Ron Paul has stated numerous times live that this war is illegal. Yet he votes as if he is not sure. He moves it to another to decide. A do-nothing congressman would lead to a do-nothing president. He needs to put his supporter's money where his mouth is. Honestly he has lost my vote.

When a person is accused of murder in this country do we vote on whether or not the evidence should be reviewed in court? No. We decide in court whether evidence is proof of guilt. Yet the evidence brought before us suggest that our vice president may be responsible for many losses of life. We treat politicians better than we treat our ordinary citizens. Why?

We as american citizens can vote for impeachment ourselves under the "Jefferson Manual" in the constitution. Please take part in what you believe in.

Show the rest of the world americans don't treat politicians above the law.

He knows what he is doing.

Kuccinich is trying to gain attention and I respect him for his efforts. As for Ron Paul - this is not a game. Let's ignore these side-shows and keep eyes on the ball.

I'm in Canada, but I play in a cover band twice a week and I intend to wear my Ron Paul Revolution shirt at EVERY SINGLE SHOW until it falls apart.

The mainstream media is dead.

The mainstream media is dead.

I remember

Dr.Paul being asked about impeachment. He answered that he would be in favor of an investigation.

I find this to be a logical response. In solving any crime, investigation is always the first step.

I think Dennis was putting the cart before the horse.

Put the whole gang on trial…

Best thing to do is put the whole Bush/Cheney gang on trial for treason and crimes against humanity… After Dr. Paul wins the election. Impeachment is far too good for these international terrorists and criminals. They all need to be hung by the heals and skinned alive. Sorry, not very Christian of me.

Dr. Paul KNOWS that impeachment proceedings would be impossible under a Bush administration. One thing I am confident of is that there will be no granting of immunities in a Ron Paul administration.

"It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." Samuel Adams

Decent leadership in Congress

IF we had decent leadership in Congres Cheney would be impeach. The charges against him are clear. All the evidence needed has been documented on video much of which can be seen on YouTube.

The fact of the matter is the democrats and the republicans were using this only to try to score political points. Neither have any intention to allow a real vote on this.

Ron Paul had no reason to play in those disingenuous games.

As I posted here yesterday

Alcee Hastings (D-FLA) tells FOX NEWS: 'Dennis Kucinich is on a quest of his own. He sees flying saucers and he acts like one, too'...

His own party is about to gut him like a fish....

From my understanding, the

From my understanding, the vote was to "table" the resolution. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but from what I can tell, Mr. Paul voted to keep it alive.

Someone more knowledgeable than me could probably explain this better.

I don't know either

I don't know what it means to table it.

However, you can see that Ron Paul (yea) voted opposite of Kucinich (nay).

Its blatant political

Its blatant political gamesmanship, no point in getting involved.

Agreed

I agree. If I were Dr. Paul, I'd just stay out of it. It's more important to focus on the future and GETTING the nomination, not getting caught up in games such as this.

You may be right, but...

...I hope Dr. Paul has thought about a more specific answer. My guess is it's only a matter of time until he gets asked something like this by a reporter:

"Dr. Paul, you have been a critic of the Iraq war from the start, saying the American people were misled by the current Administration. Now Dennis Kucinich has introduced a resolution to impeach Vice President Cheney over very similar allegations, but you voted against it. Why?"

Because: a) It's

Because:

a) It's pointless

b) Technically, they haven't done anything illegal, like lying under oath

c) If he did, it means all of congress should be impeached, because they voted to illegally give the executive powers that are reserved to the legislature.

Any other ideas on Jaysonks's reply?

I like to hear if anyone else has a different understanding on this.
