The Spiritual r3VOLution, Part II

Last week I wrote about the common destiny that all of us here on earth share: No one gets out of here alive. Related to this is another strange phenomenon that we rarely ever discussed. Come back a hundred years from now and guess what? All new people. None of us will be around.

What will remain are the institutions and the society that we will leave behind for our children and grandchildren. Each moment of each day we make choices that will affect the kind of world that future generations will inhabit, not only in America, but all over the world.

On my way home from the RNC last week, I struck up a conversation with a fellow Republican (I was still a Republican at the time) in a bar at the Atlanta airport. He told me that he loved Ronald Reagan. He loved Reagan because back in the early 1980's, when this country was down and out and depressed, it was Reagan who restored confidence. The most important thing to this guy was that Reagan cut taxes. "He put money back into my pocket!" this guy said.

But wait, I said. Not so fast. "Where did that money come from that went back into your pocket?" I asked. Reagan may have cut taxes, but he didn't cut spending. As a result, our national debt exploded, and we're still in hock to this very day because of Reagan, and it is only getting worse. "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter," says Cheney as a convenient excuse for pushing the national debt up to 10 trillion. "So maybe Reagan cut taxes, put money back in your pocket, but at what cost?" I said. He did it, with help from the Fed, simply by shifting the burden from the past into the future. America is already suffering lower living standards, but it is really our children and grandchildren that will do the serious suffering. "Reagan only put money back into your pocket by picking the pockets of your children and grandchildren," I told the guy.

What he said in response floored me.

"Well, you know what? Too bad. We picked their pockets, and now it is up to them to find someone else's pocket to pick," he said. "And that's that."

At that moment, I realized that this was the fundamental difference between Ron Paul supporters and the rest of the Republicans. Ron Paul supporters want to do the right thing. We don't believe in picking anyone's pockets to get ahead (and certainly not our childrens'). And we don't want to leave that kind of legacy behind for our offspring when we are gone from this earth. McCain Republicans apparently don't care.

Last Sunday I spent the day with three of the most amazing patriots of the Ron Paul Revolution: Chris Rye, Michael Maresco and Corey Kealiher. Together, they're on a three week road trip, traveling around the country in a golden, 1984 vegetable-oil-powered Mercedes Benz, filming a documentary and interviewing members of the grassroots that made the Ron Paul presidential campaign the amazing, spontaneous explosion of creativity that it was. While the memories are still fresh, they are documenting the Revolution for all who were there, for all who weren't, and for all those who are still to come. They are intent on creating a clear record how this whole movement got started and what happened that made it so special.

We hung out here at global headquarters of the Daily Paul (my house) for a few hours, talking, filming, sharing and laughing, then we drove out to Larry Lepard's house for his perspective and his story on how the newspaper ads came about that he placed in USA Today and the NY Times. It was an amazing and fabulous day.

What I have always enjoyed about traveling is the instantaneous bond that forms between fellow travelers. Meet someone on a train in Europe or Asia and you're immediately sharing information from a common frame of reference. That is what it was like meeting Chris, Corey and Michael. No need for lengthy introductions or explanations. Just one look into their eyes and I recognized them immediately as brothers traveling the same path.

In time, you'll certainly be hearing more on their project, and I encourage you to lend your support however you can. These are quality people doing quality work, who will leave something magical behind for future generations who weren't here to experience it. They're following in Ron Paul's lead, taking personal responsibility to build the world that they want to see. And that is what this r3volution is all about.

Bump - for old time's sake

I'm doing a little excavating recently. Nice. Interesting to find this.

Not sure what this has to do with liberty and national problems but where are they buying/obtaining their fuel for this trip? Just curious

Great thread

and I like the first story very much. I intend to translate it into German and post it on one of teh German blogs, if you don't object.

Can't believe who someone with a human heart is able to say something like "Too bad. We picked their pockets, and now it is up to them to find someone else's pocket to pick."
What a fake conservative. There are like the ancient regime courtiers century France "After us, the deluge."

Liberty brings People together

Ron Paul was right

default spending ask the DR.

It's all part of the plan to make you & everyone else forced to obey, by default.
says

PASS it on, or PAY me now or pay me later.

Just a note . Tax & spend is exactly the SAME as borrow & spend. YOU are ether forced or tricked . FOR your PROGRAMS or FOR making your kids pay for YOU & your PROGRAMS. I have already paid for my parents & others I don't even know. NOW I must pay for myself ,somehow. Then pass the rest to my kids.
says

Obama hope ???

Obama better than McCain ? Are you kiding. Obama wants more social programs which translates into spending your money , SOCIALISM, more control over life & putting you in the pecking order, at their discression. Where will you fit in. I say, stay OUT of my pocket , OUT of my life & shi- on SOCIALISM. That is why we are in this financial mess. They can not even pay back my Social security fund money, they stole & used up .
Why would any sane, Or financially responsible person get further into new debt, Healthcare, housing loans,BUYING companies, fighting more wars, & raising the DEBT.??? If they can not pay what they already spent & are supposed to have on hand; dedicated monies where are all the new monies coming from ??? You are going to have to work till you are dead . Then pass the rest on to your children . NO retirement for YOU. PRICES high, INCOME low & NO S.S.I. YEH keep voting Obama policies . TALK to you in the grave. There is NO free pass. Polititions are causing the problem by juggleing your money, as long as they can . WELL it is at it's end NOW. UNLESS you get more SOCIALISM the money IS ALL, ALL,gone. NOW, This election is about turning a major corner , either toward total SOCILISM or BACK to RESPONSIBLE GOV"T . YOU get to choose . IF you are a true RON PAUL person there is one choice left & that ain't Obama. SORRY. Ron has a good idea but this election is close
Some states may follow th 3rd party deal, But here in PA. I will not take the chance . IT's TOO close. YOU know you situation where you live & I respect that.
says

Are you voting McCain/Palin?!

"IF you are a true RON PAUL person there is one choice left & that ain't Obama"~but it most certainly IS NOT McCAIN either!!!! I hope that's not what you are suggesting!

Very inspiring post, gives hope and courage to keep pressing on. Thanks so much!!!

INCOMBENT vs: new guy on administration of CODES

A council man told me they want to enact a code to inspect peoples property .Actually go through peoples houses looking for cracks , chiped paint ,etc.. Neighbor against neighbor. Those who are on a budget against those in a nice home. He said we would take it easy & use common sense . HA HA I told him ,YES ,you & those on council now may use common sense but you hold an elected office . You can be replaced & the next NEW guy may not be the same stripe as you..
That is what officials forget . They are not always going to be in that position. That is the reason we have LAW & CONSTITUTION. THANKS for a good post .
says

tax and spend Dem or borrow and spend Rep, what a choice.

Wealthy people and foreign central banks live off the 10 trillion dollars debt that the government owes, since they collect the interest. If they were to cut the debt than many people would have to work for a living.

Obama will be better for the country than McCain?

It seems like an Obama presidency will be better for the country than a McCain presidency in regards to the economy. Obama would pick the pockets of the rich (income greater than 100,000), whereas McCain would pick the pockets of our children and grandchildren while letting the rich get richer. Does anyone agree with me?

BTW, I'm voting third-party in my state because it really doesn't make a difference who I vote for since McCain is in the lead by 35 points. But, maybe we shouldn't help McCain win by refusing to vote for Obama in a swing state. Anyone have any comments?

A vote for evil

A vote for the lesser of 2 evils is still a vote for evil. Having people voting against candidates skews the results, and inaccurately shows how many people want any particular candidate to win.
If the masses vote for Obama just because they want McCain to lose, and people vote for McCain, just because they want Obama to lose, all those people are stupid because they could have detracted votes from both Obama and McCain and put support and actual votes behind someone who is worth supporting (Dr. Paul).
If everybody just voted honestly about who they wanted to WIN, then maybe there would be so many less votes for Obama and McCain that somebody else would actually be able to get elected.

Try telling that to MSM

or the American people. I'm just trying to be rational here. Of the two evils, which one will take us under faster?

Both candidates are immoral, unprincipled puppets

willing to 'go along' with the status quo of continued disastrous foreign policy, continued legitimacy of the Fed/IRS/ income tax. Both share same allegiance to the UN despite its insistence that we Americans disarm and give up our sovereignty and rights under our Constitution!

Both are evil based on where they stand. Americans must abandon these two candidates if we want to remain a Sovereign Republic!

That about sums it up

end the two party system...vote your conscience.

Its not like it matter who

Its not like it matter who you vote for, the odds of your vote being the tipping point is almost zero. You should always vote your conscious, thats the only way to do it.

American patriot with swedish citizenship. Gave up hope for that sh*tty excuse of a country a looong time ago. Long live the US!

great post

Thank you Michael for this uplifting story.

Larry Lepard this patriot should consider running for Congress.

Damn that Thief

What he said in response floored me. "Well, you know what? Too bad. We picked their pockets, and now it is up to them to find someone else's pocket to pick," he said. "And that's that."

Damn him and the people like him to hell. I'm serious on that one. It is one thing not to understand the monetary policy system, but to understand that you are taking money out of your children and grandchildren's pockets and to tell them too bad and to steal from someone else is just despicable. I can't even find words to describe the kind of vile nature for such a sorry excuse of a repugnant human being.

I'm glad there are people like David Walker out there who realize what the national debt is and are the exact opposite of pieces of human trash like that man.

Very Inspirational

Thank you Michael,

Sharing that story is so beneficial for me. People keep saying to me that I should not be concerned with my children and grand childrens future. Sometimes, I start to doubt the way that I have designed my life.

After reading your article, I will stay on course and help leave a healthy solid legacy for my family.

Strong adult role models help everyone.

We need to take back our country one politcal office at a time.

Is the film crew coming to the Appleton WI area?

We have JBS headquarters here and RP is speaking on October 5 I believe. That would give them some good footage.

I want to help!

I want to help with the documentary!

I'm a conservative and a conservationist (but I think that conservation should be done by the goodwill of the people, not by the hand of the government).

Ron Paul got it right when he reminded us that an inflationary economy encourages short term investments over saving and long view investments (financial, and in society). Inflation keeps us in a perpetual rat race, and we grasp for the easiest things, not the smartest or soundest things. A chemist would say it keeps us trapped in kinetic wells instead of seeking thermodynamic solutions.

I don't agree with liberals that quality of life has to be sacrificed to be environmentally conscious. But it will take a lot of knowledge, effort, and technology - the inflationary society encourages us to spend spend spend, and spend rapidly -- JUST TO STAY AFLOAT, and so it takes a lot of willpower, and an unfair combination of deep pockets and vision to do the right thing.

Which is why people are having a hard time finding ways to be green and money-wise, and why government keeps having to intervene with incentives and subsidization.

I watched most of it

but I didn't hear any mention of God's other special creatures, the animal species we share the earth with.

That would be a balanced whole picture, living off of the crops of the earth without causing harm to other living beings and the pollution, violence and loss of compassion that comes along with it. (needless to say, I'm a vegan)

Just my take on it so far.

Interesting...

I'd sign, but I'm only down with the first 24 books of the bible, so parts of the declaration don't quite fit my bill.

I understand.... I have friends that would agree..

I wish they (we get it) would expand their scope, too, and include those of the Jewish faith.

Agreed =)

Basically the important thing is that our creator endowed us with stewardship of the land, by breathing into us a moral code, agency, and physical characteristics that essentially enabled us to overrun the world, leaving us with the choice to use it wisely or not.

As it turns out, I don't happen to take b'reshit (genesis) literally - I am more in line with how Dr. Francis Collins interprets it (semi-literally). But the above points are all salient, and I feel a strong personal calling to do the right thing.

On the other hand I don't think that it should take everyone to do the right thing. It should be that a few need to be devoted, some need to be motivated and the rest of us should only have to get along with our lives. But the key thing is that the obstacles to the few who wish to be devoted and motivated need to be removed. A good example is recycling. A lot of folks seem to think that separation of recyclables should be treated as penance for the cost to the environment that consumption entails.

I happen to think that separating recyclables shouldn't be an issue. We should be smart enough to figure out how to make it economical for the consumer to just throw everything away in a bundle and for someone to separate downstream. But a lot of this doesn't happen because of subsidies for big industry, and the infrastructure of scale from the extraction of metals from the ground, et cetera.

God gave us the brain to figure these things out, and it's only through the tyranny of man that we figure out how to enshackle our minds.

I think that guy said that

I think that guy said that because you absolutely destroyed him in that little mini-debate you had with him. Nobody is that cold-hearted.

I disagree I think many

I disagree I think many neocons have disassociated from a lot of cold-hearted issues. I was absolutely aghast at the Aug. central committee meeting when one of the neo cons announced..."BTW everybody next month we will have a celebration on 9/11 to celebrate McCain's nomination" They have completely lost touch.
