No to all Props

Someone had asked about why one might want to vote "no" on Prop. 11 -- the following is directly from the sample ballot (emphasis mine):

Changes authority for establishing state office boundaries from elected officials to commission.

Ergo, taking power away from voting citizens on yet another issue. No, thanks.

Here's a question for those who live in the 49th District, re: Congressman Darrell Issa: he voted against the bailout twice (yea!), but, he voted for (and was instrumental in the creation of!) the FISA bill (boo!), and, he is a long time incumbent (ugh). I'd like to give him my support for vehemently fighting the bailout, but the FISA issue and the Kick Them All Out meme is making it hard for me to vote for him. Opponents are a Democrat, and, a Libertarian who has no information to be found on him whatsoever (no web site, no statement in the voting brochure, nothing that I've found). District 49 voters, how are you voting for Congressman, and why?

Thanks for posting this

I haven't studied all of the ballot measures. How is everyone voting on these?
1a. no
2. yes
3. no
4. ?
5. yes
6. ?
7. ?
8. no
9. ?
10. ?
11. ?

The "?" are on measures I haven't studied enough on yet.

Bumpity

Need to know everyones stance on these measures.

thanks

Districts 29th, 21st and 49th

29th District (US Rep): Alan Pyeatt (L); Charles Hahn (R); Adam B. Schiff (D)ays are numbered = bailout sellout!!

21st District (State Senator): Steve Myers (L); Carol Liu (D); Teddy Choi (R)

49th District (Member/State Assembly): Esthela G. Torres-Siegrist (R) = I've heard she's a Ron Paul Republican (!); Mike Eng (D)

Btw, I'm voting straight Libertarian on above candidates (plus GOP Siegrist) and party's stance on all propositions (conservative vote on LP neutral stances)...

voting yes on 8??

next, why don't we amend the constitution to make cheating on your spouse illegal?

that would preserve the sanctity of marriage, too.

Golden State bump

Today's the last opportunity before Election Day to chime in here with your thoughts and recommendations for California issues...

Brad Sherman (D) 27th District ?

I might vote for him since he did great work on the bail out, spoke out against it and voted no. http://bradsherman.house.gov/
He's always seemed middle road democrat, once in a while I like one of his votes, certainly not all.

Trouble is there's a Libertarian running against him???
I don't know much about the Republican running either.

Any thoughts?

Good advice

Ron Paul "Sign Wave Across the USA" -- November 5th!

McClintock NOT a Ron Paul Republican

During the primaries McClintock first supported Fred Thompson and then he endorsed McCain. He may be what some call a "fiscal conservative", but I believe he lacks the courage to be an agent for significant government reform.

Then go study his record and get back to me

Because you have no idea.

Hell, my own county LP endorsed him for Governor and got deactivated for it because he was a better libertarian than our own candidate was.

So he endorsed Freddy Pickup and then Panama John. He was playing the game. Had he endorsed Paul the CA GOP would have figured out a way to get him off the ballot for the Congressional seat.

Learn political tactics, people!

CA Senators

...are not up for re-election this year (unfortunately!), but you might want to know where they stand on this bailout bill:

Barbara Boxer has on her website a post about the need for this bailout (government needs to act swiftly; we just need to proceed carefully, is all).

Meanwhile, Dianne Feinstein makes no mention of the bailout on her site at all whatsoever. Not even a search of her site turns up anything about this bailout. I guess for her, it's a non-issue.

I've sent emails to both telling them to say NO to the bailout, and haven't yet heard back.

Incidentally:

Boxer plans to run for re-election in 2010.

Feinstein is up for re-election in 2012, but evidently (gulp) plans to run for California Governor in 2010. Whee.

Form reply I received from Boxer regarding "new" bailout

Dear Friend:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the financial rescue legislation
(H.R.1424). I appreciate hearing from you on this critical issue.

The fundamentals of our economy have been shaken, and Americans are
deeply concerned. When Secretary Paulson and Chairman Bernanke placed an
urgent phone call a few weeks ago to Congress to say we needed emergency
action to prevent a major financial meltdown, I expected they would come
forward with a plan that was targeted and reasonable, with appropriate
oversight and taxpayer protections.

Unfortunately, what they brought us was a $700 billion blank check,
which they asked us to sign with no questions asked. This plan contained
no oversight, no taxpayer equity, and no control over CEO pay. I
strongly opposed this proposal - and thanks to your phone calls,
e-mails, and letters, Congress stopped it in its tracks.

The Senate made major improvements designed to strengthen our economy
and protect our taxpayers. Instead of a blank check, the Senate plan
included significant Congressional oversight, equity for taxpayers,
curbs on executive compensation, an increase in FDIC insurance
protection for bank depositors, middle-class tax relief, and
job-creating tax incentives for renewable energy. The bill passed the
Senate by an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 74-25 and the House by a
vote of 263-171.

These were very important changes. But let me be honest: There were
still aspects of this package that I didn't like. I preferred the
government acquiring more equity instead of toxic assets. I wanted the
package to be put forward in smaller installments and to include more
checks and balances to make sure it would work.

For me, the deciding factor in my Yes vote was information I received
from the State of California. I was told by the Treasurer's office that
without access to credit, which is the goal of this legislation,
California wouldn't be able to sell voter-approved highway, school, and
water bonds that are desperately needed for our economy and the creation
of good-paying new jobs. In addition, I was told by the Governor's
office, that without action, our state might be forced to withhold funds
for law enforcement, schools, and other needed services. This would
bring our state to its knees and many middle-class families would be in
deep trouble. Small businesses are beginning to tell me they cannot get
lines of credit to meet payroll, as well.

Rest assured, I will continue to speak out forcefully about the failures
that led us to this place and keep working with my colleagues to
strengthen confidence in our markets, protect the American taxpayers,
and enact regulatory reform to ensure that we don't end up in this mess
again.

Again, thank you for writing to me about this very important matter.
Even though you may feel frustrated with the outcome of the legislation
that passed, your voice absolutely resulted in the enactment of a better
bill. Feel free to contact me again about any issue of importance to
you.

That's a gas!

That means LA Mayor Tony VIllar, SF Mayor Gavin Newsome, and former SF-mayor turned Senator FrankFeinstein all competing for the D nomination? That's a laugh riot!

Makes me wonder who the R's and L's will put up this time...probably Westly.

So for us in California

Will I Be forced to write-in Baldwin. I might as well write in Ron Paul if the write in does count? From what I have heard. No I now think I will still write in Ron Paul.

Do what you need to do Sarge.

Ron Paul "Sign Wave Across the USA" -- November 5th!

You're way behind the curve.

The LPCA did their recommendations at their 8/2 meeting:

Prop 1: OPPOSE
Prop 2: OPPOSE
Prop 3: OPPOSE
Prop 4: NO POSITION
Prop 5: NO POSITION
Prop 6: OPPOSE
Prop 7: OPPOSE
Prop 8: OPPOSE (unanimous)
Prop 9: NO POSITION
Prop 10: OPPOSE
Prop 11: OPPOSE
Prop 12: OPPOSE

BTW, I am 1000% certain on this. I was at the meeting, and I wrote the analyses and recommendations for the ExComm.

Thanks, Tannim

Even 8/2/08 is "behind the curve," if we're all supposed to get to our homework thoroughly completed, eh? Quite a lot of props and people to look into. I appreciate your posting the LPCA's list; I'll look into those. Linky, btw?

Ted Brown = good guy.

Links are farther down.

Prop analyses are not online, just on my laptop.

One other candidate worthy of mention: State Sen. Tom McClintock, Congress-4, Ron Paul Republican (even named so by his colleagues in the state Senate).

Unfortunately, the old links to the props on the SoS web page are now gone. Otherwise I'd put those up here too.

And when in doubt, vote NO.

Come on...animals should NEVER be allowed to move in a cage???

~

to turn around...or spread their wings?

This should infuriate you!

Vote yes on Prop 2!!!

A conservative friend of mind stood for weeks selflessly gathering over 3,300 signatures for this initiative...others for a grand total of 650,000 to get this on the ballot...while I was in my Ron Paul obsessed state, God bless her.

STANDARDS FOR CONFINING FARM ANIMALS. INITIATIVE STATUTE.

* Requires that calves raised for veal, egg-laying hens and pregnant pigs be confined only in ways that allow these animals to lie down, stand up, fully extend their limbs and turn around freely.

Wow wiz.

It's endorsed by the Cesar Chavez Foundation, Barbara Boxer, and Dianne Feinstein.

I haven't read the proposition so I can't really comment but, so far, I'm not liking the company it's keeping.

I buy certified free-range eggs and meat so I'm sympathetic, but, sheesh!
