MSM is starting to figure out the next chapter in this tragedy.

if anyone for one second cannot understand that the U.S. economy is not, and has not for almost 100 years or more, been an example of the free market, then they will NEVER understand what is presently happening.

The current crisis is not a failure or flaw of the market, it is in fact the market at work doing what it is supposed to do and that is enforce the laws of economics. It does this because of previous (and current) interventions by government which have created mal-investment distortions. Previous intervention by way of easy credit and regulatory changes created a situation where people invested in sectors and companies which did not have the proper underlying fundamentals. This resulted in a 'bubble' of false growth which inevitably burst. What you are witnessing is not the disease, but the cure.

The disease is the mentality that one can 'manage' the economy or any aggregate or significant aspect of it. The economy is not some externality that can be controlled. It is the daily interaction of over 6 billion people trying to fulfill their wants and needs with finite resources. If one were to successfully manage such a system it would be akin to winning at a chess game with 6.5 billion pieces, all having relatively unknown or unlimited movement ability, an infinite number of squares on the board, AND with each piece being it's own autonomous player. Real chess requires players to think 5-7 moves ahead, it is impossible to think even through one entire move 'in the economy.' Therefore it can't (and there are serious moral questions of should) be managed.

The disease is the root of socialism and all collectivist and authoritarian thought. It is the very antithesis of what this nation was founded on. Yet we have been practicing it for decades if not over a century to some degree, and uninformed people like this author have been erroneously referring to it as 'the free market.' This lack of understanding of basic concepts and nomenclature seems to have proven Orwellian doublespeak quite prescient. Continuing and compounding this error will only invite more intervention into the market, precipitating more, larger, and more painful and long lasting corrections.

Are they figuring it out? Or, have they been given the green light to start spreading the next wave of bad news in order to slowly prep the sleeping for what ultimately lies ahead?
