I know this was on the dailypaul awhile ago, but what did/do you guys think of his plan, T. Boone Pickens energy plan for our country??

The biggest reason to not trust him

For every million dollars that is wasted on a commercial or sending him out to run around giving stupid speeches, how many windmills could he be buying, generating capital for the next windmill....

exactly

what other products that consumers already want require them to politically will them into existence? does apple say, "we all need to come together for a common plan to get everyone in america an ipod"?

the plan is based on force, as in forcing all other options to become more expensive through gov't taxes/regulations, or making HIS option less expensive through subsidy

It appears

he wants to monopolize the market with his energy plants. Like water privatization only wind privatization. He's made billions of the oil industry & now it's a question of power & his ego. In addition to a "wind baron", he also wants to be a "water baron" & owns Mesa Water. http://www.mesawater.com/mesa_history.asp

He is planning a $1.5 billion initiative to pump billions of gallons of water from an aquifer beneath the Texas Panhandle and build pipelines to cities such as Dallas. He has been buying up rights on people's land left & right. It just looks like he takes advantage of naive people who don't know the TRUE worth of what they own. He also has a reputation for buying companies & disbanding them & selling them bit by bit, putting people out of work.

There are a lot of rich folks out there who are trying to purchase rights to the public’s water, and then sell the public’s water back to the public at the highest price it can get. (water privatization)

(this is just a loose summary of what I can remember reading a long while ago - off to do more reading/research)

since when is fascism good?

this is not a good plan. notice how it is marketed - like a political campaign. notice what he calls out - free trade. he argues that middle eastern oil is costing americans. no, prohibitive tariffs or other non-market means of restricting free trade costs americans.

pickens wants an army of voters to swing political favor behind his plan, which it requires, to be profitable. this will require subsidies or a carbon tax or something of the like to make it so. the bottom line is that the pickens plan would cost americans more for energy, both at home and at the pump, but that this will then be cheaper than the taxed/regulated/whatevered prior energy source.

if we want cheaper energy, we should let the market work. let the dept of energy stick to cleaning up nuclear weapons.

state capitalism is fascism. we have monetary and central banking fascism. look how well that turned out. do we want energy fascism?

oh, and gasoline is a better vehicle fuel than natural gas - THAT's why we use it.

as for global warming, get rid of safety standards that prevent americans from driving 60 mpg vehicles, but not motorcycles (= retarded). any carbon tax should be a carbon liability lawsuit, and it should come from people who are actually damaged from global warming, not the government, who is the largest contributing organization, along with military developers. are there any people who can claim to be damaged? are those who simply drove cars guilty beyond a reasonable doubt for these offenses? i say the jury is out, but people should be more energy efficient, for their own sake, not some idealistic crap.

It is a fraud!

It fixes nothing because it does not fix our main problem. Fiat currency. Get a hold of this concept like a bulldog and don't let go. It is the problem of everyone and everything.

People ask Ron Paul why do you always talk about money? The answer is how can you not talk about it. How can you talk about foriegn policy, health care, education, retirement or yes even ENERGY without talking about and fixing our monetary policy. Lets get back to the constitution now!

Pickens knows this but he is not about to let his position slip. He will provide the solution.

I am sorry

But you simple do not understand the ramifications of free or very cheep energy.

While the plan may be a fruad its not as simple as one sided as your portray.

I will go the extreme for the sake of argument.

With free energy we we in short order go from few global powers to a world of near complete equality. Energy prices control or heavily influence the price of ALL goods, everything. With free energy you would see a cascade effect through all markets. Everything would drop drastically in price and I do mean everything, baring perhaps items which are already dirt cheap.

It is this reason that a source of controlled power is used as a system which can hold the world in its grip. Through monopoly which they certainly have by every definition of the word they control all the markets and can effective control any government. Free energy would so greatly erode their power base that there would be peace and the globe would flourish off that one change. Do not let them fool you either, free energy has been very realistic for a VERY long time. The money spent on the Iraq war would mean free eletricity for all of america including electric vehicals via even wind or solar. There are other means as well. They are kept from the general public because for them to go mainstream would be their demise, their strongest grip gone.

Water is a free ulimited source of energy. Anyone who says other wise is either ignorant of the truth or simple a disinformation agent for the machine complex. In older science books perhaps newer ones as well you can check the calories it takes to break water into its componet parts then you can also check the calories one gets from burning those componet parts. In plain english It takes less to break water than what its parts produce when burned. When you burn these perts the waste componet is water as well to a completely closed system is possible.

There are so many shelved technologies over a 100 years old that could turn our world into a veritable eden its discusting. But how can you be an elite if everyone else is just as elite, so screw all of them cant let this get out.

Then theres the sheep who believe that something as archaic as an ICE is as good as we can do when a simple comparison of an AC motor side by side shows it to be 3 times or more as efficiant, and lazy guliable masses wonder why they are paying so much for gas. Soon we will be welcoming the majority of the world to the reality a few of us have know about for most of our lives, but were conspirancy "theorists" and You are blind sleeping sheep so the dance will go round and round a bit longer. Maybe another year at most I suspect.

Kinda got off on a rant at the end but I am sure you get the point.

The Abuse of Greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power. - Shakespeare

It is a good plan.

There is no question that the world needs an alternative to fossil fuel in the long run. The concept of a "bridge" to buy us some time as we diversify our energy sources is a sound one.

As to whether one trusts Mr. Pickens, fortunately I don't think it matters. He isn't running for office and his ideas can rise or fall on their own merit.

Fossil Fuel?

You do know that there is no such thing?

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2003/...

That's just one source, a starting piont - there are many out there. When I was studying engineering in the late 80s we had a guest speaker come in and debunk the whole fossil fuel theory from the 1700s during one of my "soils" classes. Scientific proof that has been kept "secret" - kind of like the water car... hmmmmm, there may be a pattern here (sorry, in a sarcastic mood today).

Oh yeah, there is no such thing as Peak Oil either - they kind of go hand in hand.

As for alternatives, anything that can break a monopoly (solar, wind) would be better - in all aspects...

If windmills become more

If windmills become more afordable then I will purchase one. As far as his plan is concerned he can keep it. Not tax dollars for him, if he wants to do it he can purchase the land and istall and sell the energy himself. The only reason he doesn't is because it is not profitbale for him to do so without tax payers money from the government to help.

Never Trust an Oil Billionaire

Posted by Lew Rockwell at August 6, 2008 05:55 PM

"Not when he's discussing "public policy" - that is, using the State to further enrich himself. That was true of John D. Rockefeller, a great entrepreneur who tried to get the US to declare war on Britain over oil in Venezuela. It's also true of T. Boone Pickens, who wants the feds to force the rest of us to promote those ugly, eery, noisy windmills.

By the way, what does it mean to say that an industrial society is "addicted" to oil? We're also addicted to a high standard of living. As to his protectionist, neocon moanings against international trade with Muslims, and wanting to substitute primitive windpower, show us in the market, Tee. Forget war propaganda, cartelized profits, your pals Cheney and Bush, and fascist propellorism."
