Nancy Pelosi says lack of regulation caused the Wall Street problem

Nancy Pelosi went on television today and said lack of regulation of the markets made for a Wild West atmosphere which caused the failing companies in need of a bail out.
She said McCain wants to deregulate, but what is needed is more regulation. She said she wants the free market to thrive, and entrepreneurship to continue, but with more regulations.
My question is what percentage of the members in congress agree with her view? ... and if you add more regulation to the current system, what kind of regulations could help improve the way the market works?

Perhaps she can tell me what exactly in the banking industry is free market? Anything? No! Our central bank has way too much concentrated power over our banking system. They caused the credit bubble by artificially lowering interest rates so banks lent out loans to people who wouldn't normally be given loans and created an incentive for the banks to not care if they fail because the Fed had bailed them out in the 80s when they did the same thing. There's nothing free market about it. What more regulations could you possibly have?

this is the argument many of the Dems are making and McCain also falls into this trap. The president cannot manage the economy, but can neogiate the right conditions for strong economic growth with no bureocracy (regulation) etc. Last year they blamed the rating agencies...but still - a year after - they had AIG and LEH's rating still as very favorably, the day before they plunged this week, and after the plunge, the rating changed from best to worst. Wonderful regulation, Nancy!!
She knows BS about the economy. Time to work to get her replaced by Ron Pul in 2010.

How can a regulated market
How can a regulated market be also a free market? It's one or the other. In the United States we only have a partially free market. They might as well just call it the unfree market as that would essentially be the same difference.
In any case, I think most people stopped believing Pelosi a long time ago. I'd rather see Cindy Sheehan in Congress than Pelosi. At least Sheehan seems to care despite many of her liberal leanings.

I watched Underling Pelosi's press conference and Lord Bush's remarks last night on C-Span.
For an unhumorous situation, both of their remarks yesterday were hysterical. Bush read a statement and did not take questions. He didn't seem to understand what he was reading, as he tried hard to make it look like he did.
Pelosi looked peaked, like she was in the middle of a hot-flash and looked genuinely frightened.
Both offered a pure dissembling act, avoiding talking about the Federal Reserve's roll in the gigantic economic tsunami unleashed on the good people of America.
This is some "democracy" that we live in where alternatives are not discussed, where the real causes of our problems are ignored (or the problems are ignored altogether).
Now I hear that a "mother of all bailouts" is in the works in Congress to further convert our mixed economy to a more fully communist one, to be bigger than the first "mother of all bailouts" that socialized Freddie/Fannie. Perhaps this next round should be called the "father of all bailouts"?
