You remember the recession, the one Phil Gramm said we're all imagining when he proclaimed us a nation of whiners.

Gramm, our erstwhile senator, used the term in an opinion column this summer, when he declared the economy is, in fact, just dandy.

No matter. In his day job, Gramm is vice chairman for UBS Securities, a unit of the Swiss banking firm that posted the biggest losses from the subprime mortgage crisis.
