How do you get started buying gold ? Is it too late ?

0 votes

OK, I always work well under pressure !

The pressure is definately on.

If I could get my hands on a good chunk of cash by taking my $$ out of my kids' investment plan which is in stock market and turn it into gold - HOW ?

Do you actually buy gold coins and keep them at home ?

Do I need to protect them physically ?

Where do you start and how fast can I get my hands on it before TSHTF.

Gold and Silver

They are always good to buy and keep. I mean, if the economy tanks (should I write, "Since the economy is tanking?") you have something that will always be worth something. Even if it goes down in value, it still has SOME value. Federal reserve notes or stock in a particular company could very well be worth absolutely nothing before you know it.

Just by the way, what are most dealers chargin these days? Melt value plus $.50?

You'd better hurry

But all you have to do is get cash, go to a coin shop and buy what you can afford. I'd suggest silver because its value is severely understated right now.
Unless you are talking about a whole lot of silver and gold you'll find that protecting it is really easy. Thousands of dollars will fit in a shoebox (not that it's a good idea to keep it in one).
I kept my silver in a box at the bottom of a clothes hamper for years. Now I keep it in safe deposit box at the bank. Just kidding, never ever do that.

Great questions, I was thinking the same thing!

Not to split hairs, but it's pre-65. 64 dimes still

have the silver content, also 64 quarters.

Best regards.

Buying gold and silver

I still think just transferring some fiat money into metals is a great idea. I don't want to think of it in speculative terms but relative to the things I may need to purchase for family in times ahead when no one wants fiat money.

I just bought 10- .10 oz gold eagles today and will take possession of them thru Bullion Direct. I feel they are the lowest price I have found unless others know of something better. You get a better discount if you send a check. I will gladly trade them this fiat money any day.

During the entire year I have been buying little by little in silver eagles. Personally, I feel its not too late. Three 'unnamed' major banks 'shorted' 82% of the gold and silver contracts. Soon they will have to buy them back to cover losses. Prices have no where else to go except up unless they have something sinister up their sleaves. If it goes low I will only buy more to average down my cost so I don't feel like I overpaid.

I choose to see this as a long term need.

Start

Start by GETTING IT OUT OF THE STOCK MARKET!

in

in the past week gold has risen 16 percent. during that same time silver has advanced almost 30 percent.

I

I would personally recommend investing in silver.

I'm fairly small fish at this

but we started with our local gold coin shop in town and that has worked out great. I would personally keep physical possession. We purchased the 1/10th oz, it costs a little more but who's gonna have change for an ounce!? That is the way we look at it for the future, for bartering maybe. Just do not buy for the collectability. Suggestions are the american eagle, kruggerand, and canadian maple. Not too late to start purchasing.

Good to know you can make change

I wondered the same thing myself--"who has change for an ounce". Now I feel better knowing that people will.

NOT TOO LATE

In a few years from now when gold is at $1600, we'll all be kicking ourselves.
Silver is still a great buy too.
A couple of weeks ago, the prices really bottomed out on both.

You don't have to buy it physically. You can buy shares of the Gold ETF symbol GLD, or SLV for the silver.

But if you are buying because you want a backup plan for the dollar collapse, it would be nice to have some socked away

do NOT buy the ETF!!

When you own an ETF, you own a receipt. In a crisis I would rather have 1 physical ounce of gold than 1000 ounces of ETF that I can't touch. What if they say the only way you can take physical delivery is to pick it up, in Switzerland? With baggage weight rules and postal rules, you would have to make a couple trips if you own some substantial weight. And they charge you to store it.

I agree...at this point numismatics in gold in my opinion

is normally not the way to go, but I got 1 oz numismatic gold american eagles cheaper than the going price for 1oz gold eagles today! Shop around is my suggestion. 1 oz is 1 oz yes? YES.

Numismatics

I heard numismatics were better because the government won't take them away from you as readily. When viewed as a collector's item, they are less likely to. That's what I heard. Has anyone else any info on this?

The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment...Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are His delight. Prov 12:19,22

Not True, But In General

Numismatics usually cost more. There Is A Time And A Place For Everything...Numismatics Arenot where one should be investing at this point...and is just my opinion.

I disagree, the coins you

I disagree, the coins you buy should not only be bullion metal. Bullion is more confiscatable and is only worth something for it's metal content. You can buy numismatic coins which have lower premiums and some collectibility.
