Ron Paul's Convention Speech
Ron Paul's Convention Speech
Examining the root of this
"Laws passed by Congress such as the Community Reinvestment Act required banks to make loans to previously underserved segments of their communities, thus forcing banks to lend to people who normally would be rejected as bad credit risks."
The banks and the government knew what this would lead to banks being able to claim that they are going broke. And with that excuse, the government can justify transferring wealth from tax payers to the banks...well only certain banks...other banks got shafted. This is eliminating the big Bank's competition AND sheering of the sheep...and probably some other things too.
This was all planned.
The bailout of the auto industry, farm industry, etc. were all planned sheering of the sheep too. Corporate welfare itself is one big scam.
Meanwhile, the Dems and Pubs blame each other to cover it up...and the MSM cover it up by not pointing fingers properly. Heck, Ron Paul didn't point any fingers at the proper people either. Why didn't Ron Paul say any of this?
Instead, he concludes with a vague, "I am afraid we are headed for a rough ride." statement. His solution for us the people? Wait for the government to fix its ways. That's our leader?

one thing that I think gets overdone is the mention of CRA as forcing banks to loan sloppily. I worked in banking and banks cannot stand CRA and always feared regulators coming in and rapping them for not doing the loans. These loans actually required a bank to take time away from lending and catering to their better customers, to walk the streets they always avoided and take more chances with strangers. So yes, this pushed them outside their comfort zone. But investment banks and big money were the real problem here and they don't do those loans.
The amount of these CRA loans is rather small and just becuz you are forced to do them does not mean you do them sloppily. Sloppy lending was a result of the incentive in the market derived from the potential securitization of ALL mortgages, as opposed to just selling conforming mortgages to F&F. And maybe that ultimately resulted from the interest rate environment, which resulted from the Fed choosing to hold interest rates low. And historically the power of the Fed is ultimately the result of the govt ceding market power as opposed to assuming unproductive market power.
Did govt want more lending to be able to proclaim economic growth first or was Wall Street in search of new investment products to profit from globalized capital flows first? Who knows. You can easily cherry pick regs that provide well intentioned but "anti-market" inefficient incentives, and you can cherry pick de-regulations that encouraged irresponsible but temporarily profitable decisions. I think its the incestuous relatively hidden relationship between government and Wall Street that needs to be revealed and ended. We have to stand up to the Gang of Five. Go Ron Paul.

It didn't stay up very long. Now is you type in cnn.com/politics, you see Sara Palin's face. I suppose we should be thankful Dr. Paul's face was there for an hour or so.

I've added a comment
but there are none so far. They will likely let this article die. For the record, here was my response.
All of MSM has of late been interviewing Dr Paul. His responses are the same each time but it doesn't seem anyone is really listening.
Let's stop the charade and adopt this man's policies.
I'm sure none of the people losing their homes will be pleased that their tax money and the tax monies of the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be going to keep these geniuses in their mcmansions.
Booshe rushed us into one fiasco after another. Don't follow this man down the road to destruction. S
To borrow a phrase from a previous republican administration,

Sorry
I don't know what MIXX is. I added to the add comment section. I see it is now starting to populate and most agree with RP.
I hate seeing people call the doctor names and there are a few of them on there too. Probably people that will benefit from this rape of the taxpayer.
So, what is MIXX?
At the bottom of the article
At the bottom of the article on CNN there is a little red button that says MIXX on it...you click it and then login or register and make you comments, you can also vote on the commentary and the comments made, sorta like Digg and other sites.
