Register Republicans For Your State's Presidential Primary
We are on the road to victory...but we need to focus on the NEXT step which is the primaries in each state. Some states have open primaries, like New Hampshire, where you can be a member of any party or none at all and vote in a Presidential Primary. However, most states require that you be registered in a timely manner in the party whose primary you want to vote in.
I am in California and here it is even more complicated and potentially hazardous than that. California DOES have an open State Primary in June...but the special presidential primary on February 5th is CLOSED for the Republican Party (but not the Democratic Party)
Also, some states allow you to register at the polls; however (and THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT) In California, for the PRESIDENTIAL Primary on February 5th you MUST be registered as a REPUBLICAN no less than 15 days...January 21, 2008, in order to vote in the Republican Primary. Other states have similar, different, and equally confusing requirements.
Therefore, IF you want Ron Paul to win the primary in your state, the BEST choice is to register Republican ASAP and to get as many people as you can to also register Republican, even if they are not yet sure who they want to vote for.
Talk to your Meetup Group, check YOUR state's rules immediately, become educated on how the registration process works in your state, obtain some voter registration forms, and be ready to start registering voters as soon as possible. It is important that this be done in a timely AND correct manner...we DONT want to lose even one vote for Dr.Paul come primary day!
Also, this is a great way to set up a data base for the November 08 Elections AND to get more people interested in spreading the word!
I am organizing a Voter Registration Meetup in my Congressional District and hope to get hundreds of Ron Paul supporters registering voters as soon as possible. The Holiday Shopping Season will kick off (officially) the day after Thanksgiving and there will be thousands of people in each town going out to shop. We can set up our ironing boards and Ron Paul signs in front of coffee houses, supermarkets, parks, AYSO soccer fields, senior centers, colleges...and anywhere else that we can get the most traffic.
Why the ironing board?? Three reasons: First, it attracts more attention than a card table; second, it is the right height for filling out voter registration forms; and Third (and most important) Because WE HAVE PRESSING ISSUES (but we can iron them out!) Or should I say...We can I-RON PAUL them out!
This forum can be a place to share ideas in addition to a Meetup in your area which could also coordinate other Meetups for the purpose of doing the Voter Registration.
My suggestion is to do it by Congressional District...because this can also segue into support of Candidates for Congress who espouse the same principles of Common Sense and the Constitution! Wouldnt it be great to also have a candidate on EVERY ballot for every Congressional seat who shares the philosophy and vision of Dr.Ron Paul. And they could be Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or no party at all!
The momentum is here, the time is now, so get on the (ironing) board....lets take back the White House AND the Congress for We the People!
