Buying gold and guns is great and all but what can you do if you cant afford to do that? I mean I may have a few thousand, and a meager retirement account. Any advise on the best thing to do to prepare?

Ron Paul Co-op?

Just a thought if things really do hit rock bottom, why can't we all pull together like we did during RP's run through meetups and make our own damn self supporting community! Trade, barter, grow, hunt, built govern etc....

Because it will be illegal in some way and they will put you in

camps.

do you guys think we could start a barter thread here.

It could grow from here, but get county people together even tricounty people connected to coordinate barter foods. Eggs, Milk, Meat etc.

Or does anyone know a site that promotes this.

After you move to a small

After you move to a small community, and you have stocked up on food and supplies. If you start saving, don't invest in gold mines, invest in physical possesion. For one thing gold mines are very risky and secondly they produce more gold, something you don't want since it devalues your store of wealth.

Yes connect with family and

Yes connect with family and friends. No man can be an island by himself. There is no shame in sharing a home. You will save money much more efficiently when you divide costs and when the time comes you can pay for your home with real money in cash. Paying interest is always foolish.

First be sure you are out of

First be sure you are out of debt, next don't live beyond your means, and third be prepared with food and supplies. Being prepared is not a sign of fear, but a sign of intelligence.

JP, do you have very close

JP,
do you have very close friends or family that have a country home or farm? or a home in a small rural town.. ask them that incase the we seeTEOTWAWKI, if you would be welcome to stay with them.. that is your most important thing.. get out of the big or medium city! next if have just 2,000 dollars, buy 1000.00 worth of junk silver pre 65' 90%
US coins.. either dimes or quarters. next I would buy about 200.00 worth of NONhybrid seeds. and then after that try to stock up on TP ,toothpase,
etc. that 1000.00 in silver will be worth a bundle in the future.. you will more than make up for what you are spending on food etc.. my 2 cents worth!

Thank you

Thanks everyone for your advise, I am in a bigish city, but will probably be back in rural MS in a year. My retirement is a 401K.

Thanks

Don't buy the gold yet

It's bound to shoot down in price when they pass the bailout.

THIS IS NOT A DOOMS DAY bomb.IT would be untill nations & markets ALIGN again.

This is the last stages of

This is the last stages of the DEBT STANDARD, since every single country, government, market and monetary system relies totally upon debt for its continued viability then what happens when DEBT STANDARD terminates, as they all do, as they all have in history. Take a look at a few societies that depended completely on a total fiat monetary system...its an eye-opener.

The first thing you will

The first thing you will want to do is buy heirloom seeds, they will reproduce seed unlike hybrid seed.I would also buy a couple of months worth of freeze-dried food for you and your family and store enough gasoline in case of emergencies. Second, buy things that can be used for trade goods such as soap, spices, salt, medicines, razors, bandages, lighters, rope...anything that people would want if things become extremely difficult. These are relatively cheap things you can do with a few pay checks and they won't break your bank account.

LocalHarvest.org

Check out Local Harvest for fresh local produce, eggs, meat, milk, etc. Good to get to know which producers are near you, and get to know them.

Let them get to know you, too, and don't be shy about letting them know your own skills and abilities. You may end up bartering with them in the near future.

use you hands & brains

GOLD & silver will be for richer people to stash money exchange. A hands on person may not need this.

be cautious

YOU are in the same boat as most. TRY to have an idea for income on the side, store canned goods that last, tools & neccesities, deck of cards to play.gas stove or grill electric heater, blankets water thing forcamping etc.there is an emergency list some were on the net, KEEP cool.HOPE that this would be temerary if at all.

Get out of the City if you can would be a start.

Then again I could be wrong. This is a difficult question. To many variables, you need to tell your experience, ability, and places family might live outlying before I can begin to offer any advice.

The best thing I can offer you is this. Meditate on it. Ask god to show you a path, and stay true to your vibes.. if something is telling you to do this then you are listening to an extent. You have free will but unless you quieten your mind and be ready to sacrifice certain things then your free will will lead you down a path that is not where you want to go..

Let go of fear would be an asset.

I only offer you my thoughts, It's up to you how you live your life.

oh, and if you decide to buy gold or silver....

Buy gold coins or junk silver and HAVE THEM IN YOUR PHYSICAL POSSESSION! Do not buy gold stocks, or put gold into anywhere but your own home....

yes...

A few thousand can go a long way.

I would suggest buying s shotgun. You can get one for as low as $200 from what I've seen. Depending on the state you live in, you might not have to register which means no registration fee. Many "hunting" states don't require the registration of a shotgun or rifle. Also buy a bunch of shells.

Secondly, pull your cash out of the bank before the bank runs begin. FDIC is horribly insolvent and 99% of people are going to lose everything. Bush will probably close the banks if mass runs begin and then he will stop people from getting their money while falsely promising that, "it is all there." They will probably try to bail out FDIC and push the dollar further towards hyperinflation. You'll be glad you've got that cash out when everyone else is freaking out.

Thirdly, buy any "catastrophe preparation" book, or look up some of that type of info online. There are many items you need to buy. Food, water, water purifier, etc., etc., etc. I would spend a good amount on those things and you can buy more later. If you have your money out of the bank you can buy a bunch now and then still have the chance to buy more later before hyperinflation sets in.

Fourthly, is your retirement account a 401K? If not I'd suggest withdrawing it if there is no penalty for doing so. You will want that cash.

Fifthly, got anything around the house you can pawn? Have a garage sale or sell things you don't really need for extra cash to buy more preparation supplies.

Keep some cash on you for immediate needs and stretch the rest out as far as you can.

I am no expert but this is the best I can suggest according to what I've been reading over the past year and a half.

good luck patriot!

Just get prepared

If you have some money, get the essentials so your family is safe in a time of crisis. If nothing happens, you're still ready for anything down the road. If it does happen, you won't be stuck with nothing but useless money.

I withdrew my meager retirement account

and put it mostly into gold & silver. Sure I'll pay taxes all in one lump sum on it (no penalties because of my age) but I have far more peace of mind knowing I am somewhat prepared. For even more peace of mind I buried most of my treasure off site in sealed PVC pipe sections.

For $2,000 you can buy a year's supply of basic bulk foods like whole grains and dried beans plus a shotgun, a pistol, and lots of ammo for each. Find a food co-op/buying club and get staples in 25 or 50-lb. bags. The stores may prevent you from buying a large quantity of any item all at once.

Don't put off your preparations. It's better to be a year early than one day too late. Once the panic sets in there is little you can do to prepare.

get out for many reasons.
