LOL!

I guess we have to do things like they did in the old days and move to areas that actually has a "real water supply". Sorry Phoenix, but it seems your population might dwindle!!!!!
Move, relocate, survive people!!!!!!
Someone will find a way to regain the water industry, we will get more water from the polar ice caps which happen to be melting according to some "Scientists"

Phoenix... and Dubai as well...

Everyone "Oooohs and Ahhhhs" over the fancy development of Dubai...

But I look at the satellite views and all I can think of is Ozymandia's statue half buried in the sand dunes.

Dubai is a DESERT coastal area -- it has been desert for centuries. They may build islands and skyscrapers and fancy resorts, irrigated golf-courses, and even inside fake ski slopes... but 50 or 100 years from now possibly less) ... it will all be reclaimed by some combination of the ocean and/or the desert, and the population will dwindle to a small percentage of what is currently there... and they will live among the crumbling ruins. They can spend their oil money to import people, water and fancy technology, but eventually it will prove too expensive to maintain.

You may be right ..

and I, too, have been thinking that water is gong to be the next threat to our survival. So, I've been considering buying the Ecolo Blue water machine that takes the moisture out of the air and produces up to 7 1/2 gals of pure water a day. I think it costs about $1,300. and you can even buy a solar panel from them to run it!

I saw it advertised on the Prison Planet website. http://www.prisonplanet.com

When in need

Drink your pee.

No water eventually equals no pee

not illegal here

actually rain barrels are a hot item and will probably get hotter

Not everywhere!

In some states, it's illegal; in others, perfectly legal. Check your state and local restrictions.

Never going to happen here

There is life east of the Cascades... LOTS of desert life.
I love the way you Portland folks call Prineville "Eastern Oregon." (My kids were born in Enterprise.)

There will never be

a shortage here.Live in Seattle.

Um, I am on well water and a

Um, I am on well water and a natural gas well.

If worse comes to worse I know how to turn an engine into a natural gas generator to make electricity.

I also have 120acres of farm land, hahaha.

What do I think?

I think there's no shortage.

Every single drop of water that has ever been on the Earth, is still here.

It's just a matter of getting it to where you are, and purifying it.

I have plenty of fresh spring water flowing right up out of the ground behind my house, without any pump needed, and I drink it every day.
It flows year round.

Its still here... but a lot of it is NOT drinkable.

Whether because it has been poisoned with toxic chemicals or metals (nearly all of the wells in a few counties 100 miles north of me are undrinkable because so much water was pumped from the water table in recent decades that what is left has a significantly increased density of arsenic -- which leaches into it from the ground above {never a problem before development} ).

So, not everyone (nor everywhere) has a reliable Artesian water supply from a "clean" aquifer.

In addition, a LOT of areas of the country (Atlanta Georgia) have undergone massive increases in population in the past several years, and their aquifers and local reservoirs simply cannot handle the demands of their current population. The same is true (but worse) for many countries around the world (parts of Africa and Asia have had tenfold increases of population -- far beyond the capacity of the land and other resources to maintain them).

Seriously, its like any other population explosion in wildlife -- when the population exceeds the carrying capacity of the local resources, the animals either have to migrate or die in significant numbers until a sustainable population is reached.

In part, this is one of the major problems I have with the whole *aid* programs to the poor countries; they only exacerbate those countries problems... other than in the RARE instance of an aberration in crops, if you GIVE a bunch of food to a population that is increasing, then it is being done in a fashion beyond the resources (crops OR other trades) of the land, and it just exacerbates an unsustainable situation (I normally don't like to use "greenie" words like unsustainable, but in this case the use is apropriate and accurate). All that results is that the surviving families and their children have even MORE children... and unless dramatic LOCAL development occurs, then eventually there will be mass starvation, it is unavoidable... *aid* in such situations -- like the bailout -- can only delay and increase the SIZE of the calamity.

Yup

Assured water supply was the very first thing on my list of projects. Collect rainwater. Clean and free. Culvert pipe upended in concrete for cisterns.

????? pull out a globe and

????? pull out a globe and look at the ratio of blue stuff vs green/brown stuff.

Something like 3% of the world's water is fresh water

And 95% of that is locked up in glaciers.

uhhh desalinization.

you DO realize that the salt can be extracted leaving potable water right?

do tell.

you know how many gallons of fresh water it takes to build one car??

Yes water desalination on a small scale is very easy.. Now try to desalinate NYC's drinking water and see where you get.

but of course. we can print the money for whatever we need obviously. as for how to get it inland, there's this neat idea called pipes. They're like these tubes right......and you can send stuff through them.......like how they do with oil.

umm that's not a viable excuse.

you sound like Paulson. Stop. Yes pipes would work. You're thinking is off though. Their is more water wasted by shower and toilets, You never figured out how much water it takes to build just one car did you.
