*THIS* is why Ron Paul is a Republican!Submitted by spacehabitats on Fri, 09/26/2008 - 08:43
And so They finally succeeded in passing this bill.
Yes, there were a couple of minor enticements to "conservative" and even "libertarian" politicians (like the capital gains tax provisions); but of course the bill was still an abomination.
But I am also pleased to announce that that there is STILL a difference between the parties.
And the GOP should STILL be our target for takeover.
Although 26 GOP congressman "flipped", 32 Dems went belly up.
And the sad truth is that even if ALL of the GOP opposition had held firm, the bill still would have passed 237 to 197.
The MSM will try to portray this as a "bipartisan" victory. They do NOT want voters acknowledge or reward these Republican congressmen for opposing this great leap toward socialism.
But WE should.
In fact, we should praise any of the congressmen or senators (of either party) for opposing this bill.
But it remains clear why we should be working within the Republican party to advance our cause.
Now more than ever.
There IS a difference between Republicans and Democrats.
Maybe not between the party leadership.
Maybe not between their congressional leadership.
Certainly not between their presidential administrations and (God help us!) Obama and McCain.
But there IS a difference between the GOP and Democrat rank-and-file; and it is reflected in the philosophy and behavior of their elected congressmen.
The $700 Billion sell-out of America should have sailed through the House and Senate.
After all, it was proposed by a "Republican" administration and the Democrats who (for all their posturing about not rewarding the corporate executives) can't wait to endorse this great leap toward national socialism.
So what is the hang up?
The REPUBLICANS in the House of Representatives just can't get behind this atrocity.
They are getting emails and cards and phone calls from their REPUBLICAN constituents opposing the legislation -- and they are listening.
Will they eventually cave in? Probably. But that is because we have not strengthened their numbers with enough truly enlightened patriots. And if it had not been for them, this whole thing would have gone through without so much as a speed bump.
That is why Ron Paul is a Republican. That is why this is the party we must work with.
God bless the GOP as the last, best hope for America and the constitution!
Bring on 2010!
