*THIS* is why Ron Paul is a Republican!

And so They finally succeeded in passing this bill.
Yes, there were a couple of minor enticements to "conservative" and even "libertarian" politicians (like the capital gains tax provisions); but of course the bill was still an abomination.

But I am also pleased to announce that that there is STILL a difference between the parties.

And the GOP should STILL be our target for takeover.

Although 26 GOP congressman "flipped", 32 Dems went belly up.
And the sad truth is that even if ALL of the GOP opposition had held firm, the bill still would have passed 237 to 197.

The MSM will try to portray this as a "bipartisan" victory. They do NOT want voters acknowledge or reward these Republican congressmen for opposing this great leap toward socialism.

But WE should.

In fact, we should praise any of the congressmen or senators (of either party) for opposing this bill.

But it remains clear why we should be working within the Republican party to advance our cause.
Now more than ever.

There IS a difference between Republicans and Democrats.
Maybe not between the party leadership.
Maybe not between their congressional leadership.
Certainly not between their presidential administrations and (God help us!) Obama and McCain.

But there IS a difference between the GOP and Democrat rank-and-file; and it is reflected in the philosophy and behavior of their elected congressmen.

The $700 Billion sell-out of America should have sailed through the House and Senate.

After all, it was proposed by a "Republican" administration and the Democrats who (for all their posturing about not rewarding the corporate executives) can't wait to endorse this great leap toward national socialism.

So what is the hang up?

The REPUBLICANS in the House of Representatives just can't get behind this atrocity.

They are getting emails and cards and phone calls from their REPUBLICAN constituents opposing the legislation -- and they are listening.

Will they eventually cave in? Probably. But that is because we have not strengthened their numbers with enough truly enlightened patriots. And if it had not been for them, this whole thing would have gone through without so much as a speed bump.

That is why Ron Paul is a Republican. That is why this is the party we must work with.

God bless the GOP as the last, best hope for America and the constitution!

Bring on 2010!

Adam Smith advocated Classic

Adam Smith advocated Classic Liberalism.
Edmund Burke advocated Classic Conservatism.

We then had a split amongst the classic liberals, into modern conservatives and mondern liberals.

Have we seen another split, with the neoconservatives (who were angry liberals) taking over the Republican party, and adopting the name 'conservative'?

Nuff said.

Democrats: 141 Yea 94 Nay
Republicans: 66 Yea 132 Nay

And it WAS the Republican congressmen that first brought up objections to this bill.
In spite of the fact that this bill was initiated by a Republican administration, praised and endorsed by a Republican president, endorsed by the Republican candidate for president, etc. these good congressmen had enough guts to vote "No".

I'm still waiting for the shoe to drop. The DEMOCRATIC Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is holding up the vote.

:-)

You can have your "I told you so" if you reread all the comments below again.

So tell me again why we should all abandon the GOP?

So without any Republicans in congress, this bill passes with a 2/3 majority.
So tell me again why we should all cancel our Republican registrations and isolate ourselves as a totally ineffective 3rd party or (worse yet) "independent" voter.

The fact remains that American politics are skewed toward political parties.
If we get enough good congressmen elected maybe we can change that.

But in the meantime they will probably have to be REPUBLICAN congressmen.
Get used to it and start helping, or at least get out of the way.

There is no new or old republican

There is only republican and there is a creed. (although I have found that my county AND state have modified thiers) BARF;p*

I didn't leave the republican party,

the republican party left me.

Then why do you associate

Then why do you associate yourself with the new Republicans?

Ron Paul is hardly a new republican.

I still am as of this time, registered as republican, only because I have not sent in the change for my registration, but after the primaries, and the way things have gone these past 8 years, I no longer wish to affiliate with the party, I will go Ind. or lp, for the first time in 16 years.
Why do you associate with conservatives? I see you mentioned you are hardly of conservative values.

"Truth is treason in the Empire of Lies."

"Truth is treason in the Empire of Lies."

I do not label myself as a

I do not label myself as a conservative or a republican. I believe in my own set of beliefs, stealing ideals from egalitarians, small-L libertarians, civil libertarians, social democrats, non-interventionists, etc.

Don't steal,

the government hates competition. Everyone should have their own set of beliefs, that is a big part of what freedom is. Our current system pretty much requires that you register R or D to have a vote in the primaries, so until that changes, I suppose I won't be. I am not sure what you meant by "new republicans" anyway, are you refering to neocons or newly registered republicans?
My original statement was actually a reverse quote of Reagan, btw.

"Truth is treason in the Empire of Lies."

"Truth is treason in the Empire of Lies."

Neoconservatives and

Neoconservatives and Democrats are agreeing on the bailout.

Conservatives are not.

But we cannot forget the other issues. They may agree with us on the bailout, but they still do not agree on the war, civil liberties, or social freedom. They are our friends today, but they are still our enemies.

Be vigilant.

Well said!

Conservatives are sometimes our allies, sometimes our foes.
Same with liberals.

I don't know why so many people on here seem to call themselves conservatives. As Lew Rockwell said in his RFR speech:

" It is long past time for every right-thinking American to reject the term conservative as a self-description."

That is what angers me so

That is what angers me so often. I am not a conservative. I am not an oldschool conservative. And by claiming this label, the Revolution has alienated so many. I am not as anti-immigration as most, I am pro-gay marriage, abortion-neutral, anti-racist, pro-civil liberties, pro-civil rights, pro-health care, pro-helping-poor-people, anti-war, anti-intervention, am a fan of blowback theory of 9/11, environmentally-friendly, etc. Very unconservative things.

Yeah, I'm tired of people who are

supposedly pro-liberty going around calling themselves conservatives.

Cam: this essay by libertarian blogger Brainpolice might interest you. He's really frustrated as well!

An interesting side-note: since Lew's RFR conservative bashing speech, I haven't heard Ron use the term to describe himself (I have heard him use the term libertarian once or twice). I wonder if Lew's speech convinced him?

Cannot Work with John McCain and Barbie

This may be he party we need to take over, but as it is now put forth (with Insane McCain/Barbie) there is nothing to support this election. Look at it this way, regardless of who is elected in November, the next President inherits a Depression. Perhaps four years will be all it takes to purge the Republican party of neocon traitors, Israel-firsters, and democrats in republican drag.

Agreed , spyderhead. Don't work with McCain

He is a traitor to America and the constitution!

And his election would not only push America toward global fascism, it would further pollute the Republican brand that is already reeking from years of NeoCon corruption.

I don't think we should vote for Obama either (I'm voting for Chuck Baldwin myself).

But if you know anyone who is undecided (and refuses to "waste" their vote on a 3rd party candidate) I would much rather see them vote for Obama.

By the way, I don't think we should be too hard on "Barbie". I don't think she has been totally corrupted.... yet. I think the things she said about Ron Paul in January were spoken from the heart. Of course, she is mouthing the GOP party line. But heck, if I had a chance to be John McCain's running mate, I might even do it. Then if a heart attack, a bolt of lightning, or a stray bullet happened to take him out; the executive branch would start behaving constitutionally. Until I got assassinated, of course.

No, I don't trust her. But I'm not going to write her off totally until she has a chance to actually DO something. Right now her worst sin is in accepting a position as a running mate to a crook running against another crook in a meaningless one party election.

Democrats are the enemy?

This is where the GOP and the Democrats lose me and my vote and why I was really hoping Ron Paul would really start a 'rEVOLution", to "Campaign for Liberty" from the Duopoly which employs a game to defeat Americans by pitting them against each other. GOP VS Democrats is rhetoric, because BOTH major parties are marching, left right, left right, to a New World Order and away from "Olde America".

Ron Paul said, "The GOP has lost it's way!" He's RIGHT. So have the Democrats. Between the two, America is being sold out to Communist China and the GOP, under McCain is as communist as a Democrat Party under Obama. There are not enough Ron Paul's to make the GOP a party for the Republic. The GOP is the party that under Bush, has destroyed the Republic and the Constitution for a New World Order.

Ralph Nader said when Gore selected Lieberman as a VP, "there is no difference between parties". At the GOP convention, there was Liberman with McCain...and the rumpors were McCain may pick Lieberman...and that is where there is no difference between parties.

When it comes to rhetoric, there's a great difference between parties. Unfortunately, both are corrupt and unworthy of my vote

NADER 08

Granger, I feel your pain...

I am not a lifelong Republican. I have been betrayed by both major parties at different times in my life. I agree whole-heartedly that BOTH major parties are led by corrupt psychopaths who are selling out America.

But I think we must recognize that there is a difference between the parties AT THE GRASSROOTS.

The GOP, even in their empty rhetoric, make lip service to some true values. As a result they have attracted (some might even say lured) many of the best people in our country.

The Conspiracy works to neutralize these people by imposing inneffectual or misguided leadership.

They keep them pre-occupied with meaningless tangents; issues that may have great emotional potential but little relevance to the battle against global tyranny (stem cell research, abortion, gay marriage, prayer in school, flag burning, etc.). When that isn't enough to deflect them, they use their sense of duty and patriotism to ensnare them in wars of attrition.

The Conspiracy uses tangents in both major parties, true. But nowhere is it more important than in the Republican Party where their traditional values have been so dangerously close to the truth.

The Republican Party did not just "lose its way", it was systematically and cynically led astray.

And, like it or not, it is our responsibility to put it back on course.

step one

defeat John McCain.

The practical functioning of the republican party at the national level is the veiled antithesis to its professed philosophy. Words without substance to the rank and file, payoffs and preference to their money masters. For once in 8 years, anyone elected by that party stands up to The Power and you want to jump up and down. I'm less than impressed.

Touting the grassroots is like pleading...but we mean well!...both sides can do that.

"Defeat John McCain"

Amen!

The Republican Congress also

The Republican Congress also gave us the Military Commissions Act, the Patriot Act, REAL ID, and so on.

To put faith in the GOP at this writing is to do oneself a disservice. One may as well believe in fairies and pixie dust.

I seriously doubt this

A bill will be passed.

They didn't pass it because they wanted to play the McCain hero game.

The same reason why the democrats suddenly didn't pass it before the debate today.

This is the same party that stabbed Ron Paul in the back -- stop deluding yourselves.

There are only Globalists and Americans today, and real Americans are almost non-existent.

I have people telling me all the time, "What's an American? Everyone is an American because we have people from everywhere."

Thus an American is no one and everyone. An insubstantial goop that can be molded into anything desired.

This wasn't by accident, it was by design.

spacehabitats is spot on

with regard to the House Republicans. Don't forget that without this same group of conservative legislators, not only would the bailout now be a done deal, but amnesty for illegal aliens would have been rammed down our throats last year.

Let's give credit where credit is due.

They are counting heads.

Looking to see who will be safe to vote for it. If it is a tight race those will probably vote against the bail out. If it is not a tight race they will probably vote for it.
