we have very good interests at heart , RIGHT

7.62 depending on equal powder load will retain more energy out farther than the 5.56....5.56 is flater trajectory & expands faster on thin skined animals ....& 7.62 will penetrate deeper on thick skined amimals that wear vests. HA HA got cha.COME & get me bogger man..

I own both, trained with both; get one each.

Don't forget that weight matters. Ever lug a 9 lb rifle up a mountain on an elk hunt? Even a couple of pounds make a huge difference over 12 miles, or 12 hours....

My .308 is almost twice as heavy as my .223. Ditto for the rounds and the magazines.

So, If you have a car or a home to store heavy stuff in, a .308 is fantastic.

The reason NATO went with the .223 is the economy of the ammo and the weight per round. When you live out of a rucksack, every pound counts!

To fight the government?

I think either would be effective. Personally, I'm going with 7.62 X 39.

if you're talking nato rounds

but i have no idea if you were or not, it seems implied, but 7.62 what?

7.62 x 51
7.62 x 54r
7.62 x 39
7.62 x 25

but I'll go with the NATO round.

so you want to know some kind of comparison data?

well. if I were arming 100,000 soldiers to engage in firefights, police streets, and walk around with large amounts of spare ammo, is there even really a choice?

oh ...wait...you meant for yourself?

which one do you shoot better?

there's your answer.

Considering buying an AK but already have an M4

The M4 is great, shoots well but it seems to me that the 556/223 may be a weaker, less versatile round for a SHTF scenario or a Zombie Apocalypse.

only problem with an ak is

only problem with an ak is range... consider a springfield m1a...

ok!!! the 7.62 is a far

ok!!! the 7.62 is a far superior round.. this is why the army is considering going to the 6.8 spc.. I have trained with an ar15.. and that weapons platform is a favorite of mine.. but If I were dropped on an unkown hostile planet and could pick only 1 rifle to take it would be a springfield M1A! I can hit targets out to 800 yards with Iron sights consistantly with this rifle..
with my ar15(m4) trying to hit the same target is very hard to do! with a little wind forget it! the target we were shooting at is a metal plate about 18" in diameter. so not only at short range but at long range the .308 is far superior! again a 150 grain bullet against a 62 grain bullet! those of you who have not had any trigger time behind an M1A ,need to.. you will fall in love with this rifle! they are very accurate out of the box!

My Pappy has an M1A

I love that thing!! Maybe more than my AR. And my AR is pretty tricked out. CQB ready.

me 2 chilly.. I have both

me 2 chilly.. I have both but my m1a is by far my favorite.. I put a red dot on my m1a just like my m4.. it is just as quick! then I have an m21.. thats a 1200 meter 308 rifle.. as accurate as any bolt gun!

It's on the wish list.

I was issued one (a long time ago). I bought (several chambered in) the other.

lots of tests were done in the early 60's

5.56 prevailed

No comparison...

.308 win is far superior except for mag capacity.

Now I don't care...

...who you are... That is one serious round...
