HOW to get Dr. Paul as speaker of the House!!

0 votes

1. Get in touch with your local 3rd party House candidate, preferably Libertarian or Constitution. But most importantly whoever 'looks' electable. I.e. isn't a single issue candidate on some unrelated topic (like legalization), looks reasonably like a statesman (hate to be cynical but that's key).

2. Ask if they support the bailout.

3. If they say no. Make 1000 yard signs that look like this:

Vote ____

The only candidate who
Opposed the $700B bailout

4. Get those signs out all over the district. OWN the issue. There may be another 3rd party candidate who was opposed to the bailout, but the most important thing is to make the public realize that both the incumbent and the challenging D or R candidate support the bailout (of course, don't do this if your incumbent supported the bailout).

5. Get your 3rd party candidate out, meeting people. Every day, for one hour. Coffee Shops, Diners, Parks on the weekend. Get people signs to start waving them. Make meetup groups. Show some support, people waving those No bailout signs.

Evolve into simpler signs:

Vote ____
No more bailouts!

6. Figure out if C4L can support these guys.

We only have 2 weeks to make these signs (turnaround is ~2 weeks).

Why this will work:

We only need a coalition of maybe minimum 5-10 representatives who are 3rd party who pledge to support Ron Paul for speaker; they can twist the arm of the Republican party to pick Paul or else they cede the chairmanships of committees, to the Democrats.

Good luck!

A lot of naive idealism there

First off, #3 is a lie. There are plenty of Representatives and Senators who are trying to kill and hold up this $700B handout for corporations.

Second, #1 is silly. There's only two independents in the House, and there's no reason that to assume there'll be any more than that for the next Congress.

Third, your summary is completely devoid of knowledge in American civics. Only the majority party has a role in electing the Speaker of the House. The minority and third parties have no influence whatsoever. For Ron to even be eligible to be Speaker, the Republicans would have to be the majority in the House, which nobody in their right mind would even allude to happening in the current political environment. And let's not forget that Ron is the black sheep of the party, hence he probably wouldn't even be considered if the RNC pulled the majority rabbit out of their hat.

Very nice

Practical, and to the point.

Good strategic thinking

Local politics are key, and for those of us who don't care to work inside the Republican Party this can be an effective way to go.

I am a republican.

both in spirit (well oldey-timey republican spirit, not neocon) and in registration.

My district's representative is Brian Bilbray (R). He has expressed support for the bailout, and will probably vote for it. As far as I'm concerned, his political career is dead to me.

I want a republicans to wake up (because the DEMS sure as hell aren't gonna). A good way for this to happen is if they are forced into a coalition with 3rd party (especially constitution and libertarian) candidates to retake the house.

So yes, I'm working from within the system, while at the same time working without.

Not just 3rd party candidates...

I will be supporting Dems and Republicans who oppose the bailout too. This does give us an amazing opportunity to promote liberty loving candidates, and easily contrast them against the washington insiders.

As Ron Paul said - "There should not be hostility toward those who seek opportunities in any party. The goal is to spread the message in every way possible. As a matter of fact, if the ideas didn’t invade all political factions, it would not be a true revolution."

Dont forget to sign the petitions to open the debates to all third party candidates!

Of course

But the point is, if you get just a few 3rd party candidates in (even as few as 2, with the right two, and if the other districts are divided D/R just right), then the probability of getting him as the speaker go up astronomically. The second point is let's make the bailout the single issue that seals the vote for the 3rd party person. C'mon, this should be easy. Phone calls go in to lawmakers 1000:1 opposing vs. supporting the bailout.

Obviously, don't do this in a district where the incumbent opposes the bailout.

self-bump

I know it's lame, but come on, you guys gotta keep this up.
