The way I see it, it doesn't
The way I see it, it doesn't matter how the result went today. A bailout is inevitable. Either they're going to add more pork to it and pass it through the House on Thursday, or the treasury and Fed will go ahead with the bailout anyway (remember, they didn't even ask for permission to in regards to Bear Stearns, Fannie/Freddie, AIG, etc.).
I am happy that it did not pass because this means that the millions of us who called day in and day out actually had an effect. I think the public is waking up. And now the people will see the next financial grab of executive power as illegitimate.
From what I've learned in the past year, we need to remember that a severe recession is INEVITABLE. The only thing congress can do is allow it to happen quickly and painfully, or draw it out over a decade or more. It will get harder before it gets easier, especially because everyone is already finding it easy to blame the free market.
Teach as many people as possible before it's too late!

From listening to CNN, it seems to me that it is especially the Democrats who want to add the pork. We might have a fighting chance if this is the approach, with more Republicans joining the resistance.

The next round will be Thursday or Friday. It's going to be harder to win this one. Pelosi will only have to arm twist, what, 12 Democrats to change their votes. We're going to have to get a few Republican yeas to change their vote to neys to make it a little harder.
