Europe has been screaming about this for months. They and other countries bought up these bad mortgages a long time ago from the crooked brokerage firms and banks here in the US. So the toxic assets they are holding bad paper on are on US soil. Crooked mortgage brokers here in the US, knowing that the loans they were making were bad but they would make the commission anyway, then sold off the risky mortgages to foreigners who thought they were getting a bargain by buying into the US and getting a bargain because of their stronger currency. Look at who your mortgage company is and what country they are from. Names like "Trans Atlantic Fund..."

The downsides of a global capital market. There is more risk in buying up mortgages from half way around the world, in a market you are not as familiar with. Mostly it would be caveat emptor, BUT, since we have moved so much of our industry over seas, how much capital does the U.S. even have anymore ? ?

And where might the authority come from to deal with a global economic crisis, seeing how the authorities will pick the Winners and losers. IMF and WorldBank ?
