Like a Dumpling: Full of Pork. SENATE PASSES BAILOUT BILL 74 - 25. Roll Call Vote Here.
[Editor's note: I have cross posted this entry at my other startup site, the VoterBomb. If you have an account at the Daily Paul prior to 9/25/2008, you can use the same username & password to login at the Voterbomb. You also get your very own blog there! The mission of the Voterbomb is to vote out as many incumbents as possible this November 4th but I need your help to expose the corruption & lies of the Congressmen & Senators in your area. Working together we can take our country back. It is off to a slow start, and we'll do what we can in the 2008 election (I have a real job, too!). But with your help, I'll keep at it through 2010. Slow and steady wins the race. Just like Ron Paul. Please visit, post and help spread the word at the VoterBomb.!
We now return to the regularly scheduled post.]
Here is the Senate roll call vote. The official name of this bill is: H.R. 1424 The Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007. WTF? At least that is what the Senate site says!
Like a dumpling, this bill is filled with pork, including: $150 billion in tax breaks for individuals and businesses, an increase in the amount of bank deposits covered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, to $250,000 from $100,000 (wish I needed that!), AND the entire package was attached to legislation requiring insurers to treat mental health conditions more like general health problems. WTF? The initial Treasury Department proposal was three pages; the latest version passed is over 450. Exponential growth, just like Government - debt, power and abuse.
McBama both voted for the pork. House will vote Friday morning. All of this will be paid for by your kids and grandkids. At this point, I think the best way I can protect my children is by not having them.
They keep telling us not to call it a bailout bill. Ha. It is a bailout bill.
What we need is:
1) The roll call vote so we know who to vote out of office, and we need to start concerted, local efforts to really do so.
2) We need to stay on the House members, and make sure this thing doesn't pass.
Finally, they said we needed this "for the markets." As if we are here to serve the market, and not the other way around. Well, check for yourself - overnight futures are down!

The original bill said, “give us the money, or the market gets it” to paraphrase Jim Willie. I wonder if the final bill gives the Secretary of Treasury czar like powers. By the way, how much power does the US Constitution give to a Czar anyway?
I just saw a cartoon with Bush in a Che t-shirt. The caption;

I accuse!
I accuse all Senators who voted for the EESA guilty of accepting BRIBES!
Sweeteners? Pork? Special interests? Earmarks? What the hell?!
Those are BRIBES!
These Senators had to be given bribes in order to vote for this 451-page trashheap, which in turn helps them in their reelection campaigns.
Therefore, they are guilty of accepting bribes for their vote.

The markets just opened less than an hour ago... The immediate reaction is:
The NYSE & DOW are both DOWN over 200 points.
Guess the "markets" actually don't like the Big Bucks Bailout any more than we do.
The House of "Representatives" better take notice.

Thank you . . .
. . for contacting me about the financial crisis package recently considered in Congress. I share your anger and frustration about this situation. Although I think we need to act to fix our American economy, I do not feel this bill is the right way to do it, and I voted against this package when it came before me in the Senate.
What is most outrageous to me is that this is not an accident. We are in this crisis because of a failed philosophy and a failed set of priorities that have rewarded greed. We have seen policies of massive deregulation and willful neglect of what is going on in these markets.
We know there is a crisis on Wall Street, but there's a much bigger crisis in Michigan and across America. Hard-working families, who play by the rules, are the ones in crisis every single day, and this bill does little for them. People are losing their health care, their pensions, their jobs, and their homes.
This legislation is fundamentally the wrong approach to fixing our economy. We need to start from the root of the problem and help families stay in their homes and keep their jobs.
Just last week, the Senate was unable to get bipartisan support for a jobs bill that would have helped families in Michigan who are suffering the worst in this economy. Our bill would have created desperately needed jobs in Michigan. That bill represented the right priorities!
Although I'm glad the final bill included some alternative energy tax provisions that I have championed in the Senate, the underlying legislation did not do enough to address the real problems of jobs, health care, energy independence, and home foreclosures.
In the coming months, I will continue fighting to stop the policies that got us to this crisis and hold the people accountable who failed to protect our country. Most importantly, I will continue to focus on creating new jobs in Michigan.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please continue to keep me informed about issues of concern to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow

We have to use this to our advantage.
It should be to our advantage that people will be more upset with a 450 page bailout than a 3 page bailout. Call your reps and ask them if they read it all yet. Ask Ron Paul if we should ask that the whole 450 page bill be read outloud and debated again.
What if the government was unable to sell more Treasury bills? What if China and Japan began to sell? Wouldn't the Treasury be forced to mint money?
Seems to me that if we want to take power away from the elite who benefit from the Federal government, then people need to stop holding and investing in T-bills and put wealth in their own bank. An investment in T-bills empowers the elitists controlling the Federal government. Remember T-bills are just paper, just like FRNs. Withdrawling our investment is their biggest fear. Holding onto T-bills locks up dollars as they say. I suggest investing in something other than T-bills such as your local economy, food, supplies, silver and gold. These items stimulate our economy and the individual is empowered. But, what the hell do I know?

remember paul wellstone?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Wellstone
he was on those 'socialists' some of you love to hate. he made Bernie Sanders look conservative.
died in a plane crash in 2002, right after his vote AGAINST the invasion of Iraq, and right before his re-election (Coleman won his seat).
who knows how he would have voted if he had lived, but i'm willing to bet a silver dollar that there is no way in hell he would have supported this bill.
talk about rolling over in one's grave....
sick bastards.
we got to get them OUT
Mental
It is called HR 1424, The Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007 because spending bills have to originate in the House.
This atrocious psychiatric parity bill has been on the shelf due to widespread and continuing opposition to the crazy idea that insurance companies and insurance customers should be forced to insure psychiatric care at the same level as medical care ("parity").
Now they have added the derivative bailout to this moldy holdover so they can say that the spending proposal was originated in the House.
It's insane.
liberty yields harmony; tyrany yields chaos
liberty yields harmony; tyrany yields chaos
It's insane because they are insane....
they will be needing that Mental Health insurance.
it's real socialism
what's so ironic about the bill itself is pure socialism
and they attached this fascist component on top.
absolutely insane.
even more insane is the title
good thing for Pelosi though:
now she can get the bailout passed
and get her Xanax paid for by us.

They may have done us a favor.
Had the Senate attached this bailout to a simple bill without pork, it may have passed with all the scare tactics they are feeding people. But with all this garbage attached to it the house will be under more pressure, or should be under more pressure not to pass it. We have to use this to our advantage.

get the POWER and THEN you can do GOOD!
This crap CANNOT BE LET TO CONTINUE. FULL STOP.
Right now your blog is simply information. But in less than 5 minutes you can convert it to power with a tool called "action trigger" which allows people to organize and take action simultaneously only if a good number of people agree. I make no money with this but I want you to use it because I think this is what the web needs right now! We have enough information, but still ZERO POWER! Time to change that.
Check it out and mail me directly to tell me how I can improve it.

Power centers are about to get much, much smaller.
Remember: most people do *nothing*. So a small number of active people can influence society and make a huge difference!! Use this tool, get not ten million, not a million, not 100 thousand, but, say, 10000 people together, or less, depending on your goal, and you can CHANGE THINGS!
History proves to us every single time, that the powerless can't fight armies with indignation and righteousness alone. Power is the PREREQUISITE to do good, or evil. The evil methodically seize power. Time for you to step up to the challenge and play as an adult.

Feingold (WI) !
Sometimes the guy (one of my states' Senators) is *really* irritating, then he goes and does something GOOD again like this -- voting NO! against this piece of excrement. (For those who don't remember, he voted ALONE against the PATRIOT Act).
By the way, the little section "requiring insurers to treat mental health conditions more like general health problems." will probably be MORE expensive in the long run than the rest of the bill combined (just like Medicare Part D will end up costing more than the rest of the gov't socialist health prog.)
Exactly!
I thought the same thing! I still want him on the vote out list though.
I actually DO admire the guy.
I disagree with his ideas and often his votes, but he IS an honest man (and that is so rare as to be VERY praiseworthy).
Plus, he has BALLS made of brass, and a SPINE made of steel, and is not and probably never will be anyone's little whipping boy (they don't seem to be able to buy him, or to undermine him -- I think he even manages to keep his pants on, which is an amazing sign of character in D.C.)
If we had just a couple of dozen more like him in the Senate & Congress, with even a single dozen or so like Ron Paul in Congress, then the RP's would be able to educate the RF's, and we could ACTUALLY have a Republic again.
When I contrast that to my RINO Congressman, Paul Ryan -- who voted for the Bailout Bill -- even though he claims it is both unpopular AND against his principles... I mean what is there to do with THAT... I can understand voting for something you disagree with because you believe your constituents WANT it, and I can understand voting your principles versus the mob's wishes... but to vote against BOTH? Means someone is pulling his strings... and

And suddenly, the reason Paul "RINO" Ryan is voting FOR the Bailout Bill becomes rather obvious, doesn't it!

I bet he lost a lot of votes.
You may see a new democrat in the senate from NH next January because John Sununu voted for this bill.
I'm going Libertarian on that election, the deciding factor of the election up here I'm sure.
Man, I register Republican to help save the party and what happens? All the republicans on the ticket are embarassing.
