My chat tonight with the GOP

0 votes

Tonight, I got a call from someone with the National Republican Party. After I had confirmed I was who they sought, the caller launched into a long, canned spiel about how we can't let "those Democrats" take over and all that.

I let him run his script, and awaited the inevitable plea for donations. When he hit me up for the cash -- and it was an odd figure; like, $196 or similar -- I laughed and told him no, I would not be doing that. Without missing a beat, he moved right on in to the next portion of his script ("What To Say When The Republican Turns Down Your First Request") and he said he knows that times are tough all over, and assured me that any amount I could donate would help keep our party in power.

I cheerfully answered that the Republican National Party can expect from me not one penny. He seemed taken aback, and asked, "And why is that?" I told him that just like Obama, McCain supported the unconstitutional bailout bill, and that as long as he supports that, neither he nor the Republican Party can expect to see a single red cent from me.

A Long Pause Ensued. I wasn't sure if he was still on the line. But then he spoke up:

"Uh...did that go through?" he asked cautiously. "McCain supported that?"

I let him have it with both barrels (cordially, of course). I advised him that not only did McCain support the bailout, but that he was joining Obama in telling everyone to support the bailout. Further, I asked if he knew what other language was in the bill.

"Uh, we've just been workin' in here all day; we really don't know what's been going on. Why; what's it say?"

Could you ask for a better straight line?

He got a quick encapsulated version of the consolidated bailout bill thread. When I was done, there was brief silence on the other end of the line, and then, a very quiet, "Well. Okay, then; thanks for talking with me; I appreciate it. You have a good night."

I wonder whether he mentioned this information to his cohorts in the boiler room before he placed his next call.

Loved reading that.

I just hope it was not a call room outsourced to China? Usually those guys don't even know very much about the candidate they are calling on behalf of...

...oh wait, neither does most of America.

Interesting

The poor guy really thinks he is doing the right thing. But, then he discovers his been totally played and he is asking for donations for the Democrats after all.

Pity Him.

The poor guy is trying to make a living doing something degrading to the human spirit. When times have been tough, I have considered doing telemarketing, but found better options. Some haven't been so lucky. This man sounds like he cares about this nation and where we are going, even risking discipline at his work for asking for information from his 'customer'.

Pity him I say, and be glad that he wanted more information from an informed citizen rather than just the regurgitated news he would receive otherwise.

Damn, that sounds socialist, it isn't meant to.
