A couple of questions? Your help?

I have some silver (some inherited and some purchased) and want to buy gold, but I feel a little bit paralyzed...My incentive for buying is for use as currency when the dollar collapses. I've done some research, but my head is spinning...When you make a purchase online, how do you know what you're getting? And what should I get if this is my reason (currency collapse) for purchasing?

bought most of mine off ebay

I've bought most of my gold and silver off ebay and have been very pleased with my purchase. Yes, all the big metals dealers may be cheaper on the spot price + mark up but their shipping costs are outrageous if you can only afford to buy an ounce or two here and there like me. The thing with ebay (and any other site) is you HAVE to figure in the cost of shipping. Cost after shipping is what you are actually paying. I just received a one ounce silver eagle off ebay and paid 19 dollars after shipping. Yes that's well over spot but EVERY precious metals dealer, including APMEX http://www.apmex.com, KITCO http://www.kitco.com/, CNI http://www.golddealer.com/bullionpage.html, NWT http://bullion.nwtmint.com/index.php,etc has been from under a dollar over spot to almost two dollars over spot (for silver mind you) on any given day but their sipping costs for small amounts made their overall prices more!

I've been buying gold and silver for ten years and most of it I bought off of ebay at several dollars lower than all the big name dealers ( when figuring in shipping cost) and the quality has been the same as that of those big dealers. The only time I bought from a big dealer was when I bought a MS 70 and MS 69, 2004, 25 year anniversary, limited edition 1ounce gold canadian maple leafs. They were, and still are, hard to find (probably because they were a limited production of 10,000 worldwide) and I paid $699 for the MS 70 and $599 for the MS 69 (I put them on a credit card mind you and still do not regret it.) I later bought 3 more of the same MS 69's off someone on ebay for $500 each! This was in 2005, a year after they came out.

You can buy gold and silver bullion cheaper from local coin shops but at this time most (in my area at least) are out.

My advice is first do your research so you know what you are paying for (if you're buying), then shop around and don't exclude ebay if you are going to have to pay shipping costs by buying long distance and not from a local dealer. Also, check that days spot price at any of the various web sites the day you intend to buy so you can drive a hard bargain. If you are selling then get as much as you can! I also have a spot price ticker on my site http://www.constitutionrevolution.info provided by KITCO. Spot prices will vary by a few cents from each place. Many local dealers are just hoping they can BS you, betting on you not knowing the value. One of my local dealers has grown to appreciate me because I knew more about what I was selling him ( I needed money to pay my mortgage due to uncontrollable circumstances) than he did. He researched it and called me the next day ready to buy for what I wanted to sell for! So researching before you buy or sell is always best to get the best deal.

I'm with you on ebay

Ebay is good if you want to buy small amounts.
Also I'm in Ireland and I have yet to find a big metal dealer that ships abroad.

Right now on APMEX you can

Right now on APMEX you can buy BU 2008 AEs for $17 each. Anyone buying the same on Ebay for $20+ is clueless. I hope you make a killing.

$26.78 after shipping

You can get cheaper on ebay after shipping cost figured in. Granted the one I just received is a 1987 BU 68 AE but it is still one ounce of fine, quality silver and I only paid $19.00 for it after shipping.

Update:

Play your cards right and you can get this AE 2008 bu coin for under $20.00 after shipping! Just an example.

That is what

I am doing..........look on Ebay? Search "Silver Eagles" and then click "Ending first" it is sick.....I am all in...

Man

if I was a Forex trader.....I think I could make a fortune tomorrow if they pass the bill.

Just listed

Starting tomorrow at 6PM each roll of 2008 Silver Eagles starting at $1.00

I will take $22 an ounce now and rebuy at $14

I am going to play this!!!!

What are you talking about?

government of the people, by the people, for the people

I am talking

about selling my silver at $22 an ounce on Ebay.....while I am re-buying it right now at $13.80 an ounce.

Do you think $13.80 is the bottom?

Well

I will keep playing it.....

If I can sell it for $22 an ounce on Ebay...and Re-buy below $14.....I am in...just doing what I can.......Better than the stock market....in my opinion...

It would be foolish to sell

It would be foolish to sell any of it right now. If the do;;ar tanks you'll wish you had it 25 an ounce. I would at least wait a few weeks. Before you sell on ebay make sure you can buy locally and get take possession otherwise that would be foolish also.

Okay

Every Ounce I sell at $22...I buy at $14 or less....tell me how this is bad??

It's bad if you can't get

It's bad if you can't get the silver at that price. Just because that's the spot price doesn't mean you can actually buy physical for that price.. Do you know where you can get it for that price? If your ordering it over the internet you have shipping and premiums so that price is not the actual price. If you can buy it locally do it just make sure your source has it when you decide to buy it. And make sure the dollar does not tank in the interim after just having sold all your silver and before you get more.

What do I have to lose.........nothing!

Or everything. Where are you

Or everything. Where are you buying it from, locally or over the internet?

Smart move!

Don't buy from Ebay.

I wouldn't buy from Ebay. Just go to your local coin shop. It is fairly cheaper. Silver half dollars are about $5 (no shipping). Also, try to get some 1 ounce silver coins. Those should be roughly $13. People pay a lot on Ebay because they don't have to do anything.

Umm!... Then buy locally for $13 and sell on ebay for $22. Its

the free market american way to help stabilize mismatched markets.

Well.

You can. I'm saying I wouldn't buy it for $22 an ounce. I would sell it for that! But, really, after Ebay costs, shipping, labor, and packaging, the price is similar when you talk about silver eagles. So, I might not. :)

Think

Buy first, then instantly sell.

This way, you have locked in for certain your purchase price,
and sold at the same time.

If you can find some rube to

If you can find some rube to buy them from you for $22 a piece do so and then buy more silver at the current price.

That is what I am

Thinking?

LOL

Look

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STR...

I wish I had grabbed the ones going for $22 an ounce...

Why? That is a terrible

Why? That is a terrible price on AEs.

No

I meant to say I wish I would of grabbed (Link) to the auctions that just ended at $22 an ounce......it finished...and ended...so I could not find it as a reference..

Woohoo!

Took the plunge and finally bought some silver. Can't wait until it is in my hands.

Not to hard to believe, that

Not to hard to believe, that its $22 on Ebay. People often WAY overpay on Ebay. Guess maybe people think that the price on Ebay MUST be cheaper than at the store and don't even bother to check store prices. Apmex has 32,000+ 2008 Silver Eagles in stock that are going for about $16.50 for qty 1, right now.

When the liquidity "crisis" works its way to the general population, people are gonna be selling anything of value to raise cash. Cash that can be used at the store and to pay the rent/mortgage. You remember cash? You know, those cute little FRN's, the ones that they accept at the stores and for mortgage payments. And when this part of the liquidity crisis hits, metals are gonna be flooding the market. The metals are falling now cause the wiser ones see it coming. The ones that don't are on message boards, requesting opinions from people they know nothing about, on the subjest of whether they shoud sell or hold.
