WASHINGTON, Oct 2 (Reuters) - A group of Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives said on Thursday they would seek an amendment to significantly reduce the size of a $700 billion Wall Street bailout package headed for a House vote soon.
Ohio Rep. Steven LaTourette said 23 Republican lawmakers will seek an amendment that would lower the amount the Treasury Department could spend on the bailout to $250 billion. (Reporting by Richard Cowan and Kim Dixon, editing by Richard Chang)

I have heard they also want the $100 billion of Democratic pork removed too, or they will be getting current Yes votes to turn to No.

Sounds like a move to make it more marketable.
They still don't get the basic problem.

that means nothing
it will be 250 billion every day until we are still in debt trillions and trillions of dollars.
I made another round of calls
Call your congress people and keep the pressure on!!
Maybe the Revolution picks up speed tomorrow!
Wouldn't it be fantastic if the House of Representatives shot down this bailout proposal again by an even stronger margin?
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

I dont' think so. Their
I dont' think so. Their resolve has been significantly weakened, despite the screaming of their constituents

I respectfully disagree
I believe that their resolve has been strengthened. More people are waking up every day, including congress-critters in the House. The Senate is a lost cause, but the House is listening.
I can only hope you're right
I can only hope you're right for all of us. Make more calls.... :)

Everyone I know who tried to
Everyone I know who tried to get through to our 2 TX senators was unnable to... I know they were blocking our calls because they were sick of hearing from us when they had made up their minds to vote for the bill.... Texas is getting a huge chunk of that pork.... Traitors!!
NONE BUT PAUL!
I tried as well. Same result. Their Congress.org
messages were just shy of 100% against the bailout, but that didn't matter. If the voters of Texas don't matter to them, which is obviously the case, then somebody else or something else is what really matters to them.

I read an article that stated
JM
when the senate got through with the bail out rip off, it was over 400 pages. Larger than most novels. Man, what's with all the pork they've added. I'd venture to guess that no one person has read the whole damn thing. There's no telling what is in it. It would take a think tank 6 months just figure it out. But whatever they vote on, it will be the tax payer that suffers. If the reps. on the hill were serious, why don't they donate their campaign contributions to save the economy? That seems only fair. How about giving their salaries to the Fed. to fix this bogas bunch of crap. How about billing all of Europe for pulling their sorry asses out of the fire in WWII. How about sending the oil from Iraq to help our energy shortage. When the chips are down it seems America has no international friends. How about all the billions of dollars we've sent to most all countries around the world. We hold out our hand just one time and what happens, it gets bitten. Where's the money? It is very evident we don't have it.

unless they reduce the bill to less then $700 bucks...
i won't even consider supporting it
No matter who you vote for, the government always gets in - Bill Hicks
I don't care if it's only seven bucks
If the language remains in there giving up checks and balances and all the rest of it, the bill's not worth the paper it's written on.
Remember: this is more about setting up legislation than dollar signs.
Thank God some of our congress people
still can smell the shit of this thing, I hope they hang on to their asses and keep to the NO!
