All - I just read a State Judge threw out Michigan's Jan. Primary. If the state legislature can not fix there error by Nov. 14th, then the fall back is supposed to be a sort of county by county caucus of the party faithful [On the GOP side...]

Anyone know more, or how this works? Also, I left my registration as an INDEPENDANT assuming I could vote Ron Paul in the primary. But if the primary vote is squashed, is it too late to change to republican?

Thanks for looking into this issue in advance!

How this all started

All of this started because Michigan politicians decided they needed "a friend in the White House."

That's right. Straight from the governor.

What this says to me is: We need a better position to suck off the teet of the Federal Government.

If we can suck up and get "our" president in the White House, federal dollars will come flowing in, protectionist trade schemes will be erected, and we'll SAVE the Michigan economy.

This is the antithesis of a Constitutional Republic. We not only need to get Ron Paul in the presidency, we need to break up this whole system, state by state.

Eceryone change to republican

If you are an independent, please change to republican even though your primary might be open. We want to be ready if the GOP in that state decides to make it a closed primary.

Just sent this email to state Sen and Rep -- thanks for the tip!

Dear Rep. Brandenburg,

I am writing to urge your support for efforts to preserve Michigan's primary election. My understanding is that House Bill No. 4507 does that.

I read enough to know that Michigan's primary is in trouble on several fronts -- ruled illegal by a judge, the subject of bickering among local and state party offices and candidates, etc. I ask that all reasonable measures be taken to preserve election by the citizenry. To go to a caucus or convention denies that at a time citizens already are losing economic strength. Please don't deny their electoral influence at such a critical time, and for such a critical election!

For what it's worth I care less about the early date than preserving the election. I would be nice if we an have a very early primary, I guess, but Michigan still could participate as an early industrial state even if the date was made somewhat later. And, given some scenarios, a later primary could be even more decisive than earlier contests in determining the presidential nominee for each major party.

Please don't just stand by or act in a manner that results in no primary at all. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water or let judges do that either!

UAW Straw Poll

I've been pitching RP at the GM plant I work in since April and am having good results. I've distributed hundreds of SlimJims, dozens of DVD's, people are wearin his buttons and I've delivered a bunch of signs. People are coming up to me now asking for information. All of this in a traditionally Democratic stronghold - the UAW. The rank and file are NOT impressed with Clinton ! We need more Paulites in the plants to spread the word--- especially with the UAW holding a National presidential straw poll this month and next. Paul is the ONLY candidate that wants to quit NAFTA which is a very sore spot in the union. I believe we could do VERY WELL in this straw poll. Anybody here, meetup members, Paul supporters that are UAW members in Ford, GM, Chrysler etc.... let's get working and take this poll !!!!

Good work!

You are the type of person this campaign needs more of!

Detroit News update

Looks like noumenon answered you main question below. The situation here is very complicated and fluid, with a local judge ruling the primary illegal (for now) and conflicts before that between Dems and Reps, among different candidates, between national party offices vs. state offices, etc. Too bad, since Michigan could be the first really significant primary because it's much larger and more diverse, in population and its economy, than either Iowa or New Hampshire. It also is in bigger economic trouble and therefore offers a better barometer of how candidates will fare in such an environment.

Anyhow this is from today's Detroit News:

News

Apparently there is a lot of fuss over the date Granholm chose for primaries in Michigan. Some judge ruled it illegal and unconstitutional. So, now they're going to have a senate hearing about it. We might not even get to vote... how ridiculous.. THANKS GRANHOLM!

Meetup Groups

Everyone in Michigan should join the Michigan meetup groups to support and help organize for Ron Paul.

Also, go to MeetUp.com and search for a Ron Paul group in your area. We're all over the place! :)

Michigan RIPE for RP

The other BIG news is that all the Democrats withdrew other than Clinton. That gives EVERYONE a reason to vote for Ron Paul in Michigan. Since Clinton will win Michigan, every Democrat can make a protest vote against the war and vote for Ron Paul, even if they really support a Democrat. (Reasons for supporting Democrats are still largely unknown).

Awesome Point!

I had actually never even thought of that myself. Great thinking! We really do have a great shot for getting Ron Paul ahead in Michigan. We just need to spread the word, because a lot of voters still don't know who he is, surprisingly enough. I recommend everyone take little home made Ron Paul signs to their work if it's allowed and advertise for him.

unknown

CNN admitted they have only reported on Ron Paul 4,095 times since august VS. twice that coverage for McCain.

State Reply

I have not heard about the judge overturning anything, but, I just recently messaged the secretary of state in Michigan asking them if I needed to change my party in order to vote Republican in the primaries. They replied saying that the primaries in Michigan are 'Open' and you do not have to declare your party prior to voting.

Hope that helps.

Ditto looking for info

I don't hear much about Ron Paul in MI, and I really feel there could be a nice push here with all the problems Democrats have handed us.

Any other Michigan folk with some answers?

True... especially since the

True... especially since the Democratic governor is not too popular with the new taxes she has passed on the service sector.
