Revised* Problem accessing my post

0 votes

Since this post seems to be accessible I will re ask my question here.

I wanted your opinions. I am currently in debt about 18,000 mainly credit card debt from paying medical bills. With all of the stuff going down right now I am starting to worry about my position when the government owns all of the banks and everything else and they then own me. They could raise the interest rate and indebt me for life to them. i want to be out of government grasp and I don't have the ability to pay this off in the near future. I am not having a problem paying the payments or anything. Do you think this is a legitimet concern? Anyone else thought about this? Should I file for bankruptcy before it's too late? I would never have even considered bankruptcy before.

I appreciate your input.

I posted a topic titled "Advice" It is now on page 4 due to the spamming happening. I can not get into it. It says that it has four replies but when I click on the topic I get a blank page. I am able to get into any other topics though. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Non-fractional, community lending up to $25,000.

How about this for insanity?

I know someone who went a few months without paying his credit cards. Banks started calling religiously, as expected. The first call was always the worst, than the ones following were like "let's make a deal." And what sweet deals they were. Made me think twice about paying my own cards (my interest rate was increased on two even though I never missed a payment!!!) in lieu. If you could care a rat's ass about your credit, it's an option. Just don't be afraid of these guys --- they bend over backwards to negotiate and will settle for fractions of what you owe --- rather than have you file bankruptcy and have themselves end up with zilch.

Your credit doesn't have to be damaged by this.

You can request as a part of the settlement that they issue a statement that the card was paid in full instead of a settlement and that they retract the late payments. Some will, some won't. Use a service like www.lexingtonlaw.com to get rid of the items that they refuse to remove on their own.

Look into settlements

Get used to living without credit. Take all credit cards out of your wallet. Keep only debit card if you must. After a couple of years it is really not so hard. Depending on your situation, there are many options rather than paying for a bankruptcy.

Why would you want to lose control over your finances and put a court in control? Do some research, but be careful. There are a lot of scamers out there. I found that after careful research I could do everything myself. You will save more money this way. Talk directly to the banks.

Credit resolution companies are mostly interested in a quick deal, not always the best one. When there is a deal they make money. Keep this in mind. There are non-profit credit counselors, but most seem to be supported by the banks. Ask where they get there funding. While they are somewhat helpful, I found I got much better deals by doing it myself.

Don't let collectors scare you. They usually lie. Most importantly, get every promise from the bank in writing. Once they have your money they tend to "lose records" about what they promised.

If you do lose your job and need to relocate, move to a consumer credit friendly state. Maybe one that does not allow wage garnishment and home repos.

I have found it very easy to buy houses over the years by finding owner finance agreements. There is not much difference in the loan rates and they don't care as much about my credit since they are doing it for cash flow or because they need to move.

Really your situation is not so bad. Once you have adjusted to no credit, you will see an increase in money in your pocket. However, since you are dealing in "your" money, you spend it more wisely.

By the way, I would never use my credit card for medical. Most hospitals and doctors will work with you. Have them bill you and then make payments. It is usally interest free. Also you can negotiate the price later. They usually have a much higher rate for cash customers than insurance customers. See if you can get a prefered rate. I rarely have been denied this.

Good luck

Not THAT bad

Thanks for your reply. I guess I didn't come across that clear. I am not in any trouble. I can make my payments and am not using the credit cards I am just concerned about all that is going on now with the government and their control of the banks. My credit is good and I am fully aware that bankruptcy will ruin that but I am just interested in your thoughts about debt in this form and how you all think it is going to affect us. Hell I may not even be able to qualify for bankruptcy if I tried.

But considering this......

Is it better to get out from under it knowing that it will cost 2000 dollars and ruin my good credit

or

Stay status quo considering the possibility of credit rating being meaningless and being in debt to the US government during Martial.
Law. ??

Credit Rating Goes Down With Settlement ... Be Aware

Just be aware that if you settle, your credit rating will drop very significantly .... so just be aware of that when making and settlement decision with credit cards.

This is true

But once you decide to live without credit it is not so bad. However, I would caution that many employers now get a credit report on employees. Be aware of this.

I settled with the credit cards

starting well over a year ago. I was a fair bit further in than are you.
Some even accepted 35 cents on the dollar over a few payments.

VISA was the stickler so we settled on the otustanding amount, about 12k with no more interest, and I am paying them over a couple of years, by sending them postdated cheques. The deal is done so at least they can't ding me anymore.

I found the others had compassionate policies if you get to the higher levels and no one asked for a medical report ;- >

I'm coming up with some blank pages as well, but not through

the way you describe. I just click on an active thread and get a blank white screen staring me in the face! The "Forum postings guideline" thread comes up blank!
