Ron Paul on Passage of the Bailout

For those who are fortune enough to live in a district whose Representative voted against the Bailout, may I suggest that you send a letter to your local paper publicly thanking him or her for doing the right thing. People always call or write when a politician has done the wrong thing, but too often remain silent after they have stuck out their neck to do the right thing.

Below is a template based on the letter that I sent to my local paper. Please feel free to plagiarize from it.

We are working to coordinate ad campaigns to un-elect the traitors who betrayed their constituents. Dear Editor:

I want to publicly thank Representative {FULL NAME} for having the integrity to represent the wishes of {HIS/HER} constituents and to vote twice against the bailout of Wall Street.

The disastrous bill bails out Wall Street at the expense of Main Street. It puts taxpayer funds at risk, while freeing up banks to continue making bad loans. It maintains and further subsidizes a system of flawed practices that caused the original problem. It will greatly worsen the long-term effects, and perhaps even the short-terms ones.

It is also immoral beyond measure for one generation to transfer its expenses onto the backs of another, but that is exactly what this bill does. It is American children and grand-children who will have to pay the tax bill to balance the accounts on Wall Street's greed and competence. It is the next generation who will be saddled with the consequences of the current generation's unwillingness to face its own music.

Sadly our Congress, which is supposed to represent the interests of the American people, has, again, acquiesced to the pressures of special interests. It is the wealthy, the powerful, and the international financial community that they, Democrats and Republicans alike, chose to represent over the Americans on Main Street.

The residents of {STATE} congressional district {DISTRICT NUMBER} are fortunate to have a representative who actually represents the hardworking citizens in {HIS/HER} district.

That he can still be optimistic at a time like this is a tribute to the character of the man. Those were the words I just said out loud when Dr Paul finished his speech just now. Just my brain fart but altogether true.

While the rest of us are pulling our hair out in absolute hysteria over this stab-in-the-back by our elected officials (soon to be ex) he can muster a 'just business as usual in DC' comment.

I disagree with you on one thing. Often times you use word "WE". It is not "WE" who are causing all this mess, it's "THEM" who cause this. Ther is no ME in WE (quoting Don Harrold) and sure as hell You Mr president don't belong to this elite of scumbags. You are still too good to associate yourself and your supporters and worshippers with them.

for Ron Paul! I am deeply saddened by all that is happening within our government, however, like Dr. Paul, I too am optimistic that so many people, young and old, are starting to wake up and listen to what he and many of us have been trying to say! Now more than ever, we must all be RP, speak out and try to educate others, even if at first they ridicule us and do not want to listen.

We must not let the people who destroyed our economy be the ones to rebuild it. The solutions that are on the table at the time of a crisis are always the ones to get implemented. We must be at the table with our solution of sound constitutional money and strict limits on the federal government as ordered by our constitution.

all we are to "them" is a huge pool of HUMAN RESOURCES. Something to be called upon and used up when they misappropriate our $$ to accomidate all that pork spending. Not to mention all the $$ we give away to other countries. We need to be taking care of our own first!

Honestly...I'm probably going to do the same thing if I can...just venting a little bit. So hard to watch all of this.

Think about all of the energy we have exerted to prevent the bailout from happening and it still happeded! While I believe contacting our representatives and letting them know what we thought and winning the first round is a success for liberty and spreading our message....I find the timing of this "the sky is suddenly falling" scenario quite interesting. Minimally it is a distraction from the election taking place Nov 4!

We have a third party election to promote which takes place 1 month from today...with the news of the bailout we lost up to 2 weeks.

Let's regroup and focus on the election -- promoting the third party candidate of our choice as Ron Paul has asked us to do and any 'Ron Paul' candidates running for other positions.

...we had more men in Congress like Dr. Paul.

I sent the following note this morning to my US senator and then followed up by sending it to virtually everyone in my personal email list.

Dear Senator

It disappointed me greatly that the House and Senate passed this $700 billion government takeover bill that morphed into more than $800 billion when the Senate got its hands on it.

The whole thing is, of course, unconstitutional, but a particular aspect of it disturbs me in particular. Do you know, Senator,
that the Constitution does not authorize the tax portion of any bill to originate in the Senate--that tax-related portions of legislation must originate in the people's house--the United States House of Representatives? Were you not aware of that? How did you let this slip by; your oath forbids it. Please let me know if you spoke up against this at any point before this bill went back to the House.
