Have you ever experienced anything like this in your own life?
It's kind of creepy to remember, but I have, and I suppose it's just part of human nature as a social creature.
We acted similar to this in Marine Corps boot camp. The content was obviously different...we were really into defending the constitution and impressing our grandmothers with our boyscout morality...but the postures are hauntingly familar.
Except those boys obviously weren't nearly as hungry as we were.

It's not scary because of that...
It's scary because this is exactly how Hitler came to power. Exactly, verbatim. In the midst of economic and social collapse, at a time when Germany was on the brink of extinction, Hitler came, promising change, a brighter future, etc etc etc...
It's scary because this is how the Hitler youth were indoctrinated. Once you have voted yourself into slavery, you can't vote yourself back out again.
Now, having said that. Let me be clear that I fear what this represents in humanity more than I fear any specific outcome. This sort of behavior, IF taken to it's extreme will mean that this country will hit a point where it will not be saved easily, if at all.
As far as our current government. They have had set backs, failures, and outright losses in their ongoing struggle against the people. We do have some hope of redeeming ourselves still. If people become so wrapped up in a "brighter future" that they are willing to abandon who they are for it's sake, then we are lost.

You know what really
You know what really bothered me was when they said because of Obama they have to be the next architect and crap like that. To me that is really sad because no one is holding these kids back except for themselves. Why do they have to do that because of Obama do they need something else besides the burning desire to get ahead. I know some of us do not get to goto college due to low income families or situations out of our control but does that really keep you from bettering yourself. Hell I make 2.5X the states average income for families in my state. I was not given the chances that some people have but that didn't stop me from out lasting all my co workers and getting promotions and raises. A person if they stick with a career long enough will continue to make more money on average. I just don't understand this crap were people get themselves down and keep themselves down. There is no reason to be poor in this country unless you make a series of irresponsible or stupid decisions. Now don't get mad because im not talking about seriously handicapped people because that is out of their control. People that can't control their situation are the only ones that deserve welfare the rest should learn motivation in which the best one there is is hunger.
