Well, we know now that we have crossed the line of no return, so its time to go shopping and pick up all those last minute supplies before they become unavailable!
I need to top up a few supplies, how about you?

(sure there will be gas to heat your house, but you arn't going to be able to afford it)

HOLLY NOTE: This list was first assembled by Joseph Almond prior to Y2K and it is valid to consider these as "extremely desirable items" in the event of nearly any disaster. Modify as you see fit.
On more than one occasion in the last decade, Stan and I witnessed generators virtually evaporate. Ditto for portable toilets. It's been at least 9 years since this list was compiled; prices noted below will have increased.
1. Generators
(Good ones cost dearly. Gas storage, risky. Noisy...target of thieves; maintenance, etc.)
2. Water Filters/Purifiers
3. Portable Toilets (Increasing in price every two months.)
4. Seasoned Firewood
(About $100 per cord; wood takes 6 - 12 mos. to become dried, for home uses.)
5. Lamp Oil, Wicks, Lamps
(First choice: Buy CLEAR oil. If scarce, stockpile ANY!)
6. Coleman Fuel
(URGENT $2.69-$3.99/gal. Impossible to stockpile too much.)
7. Guns, Ammunition, Pepper Spray, Knives, Clubs, Bats and Slingshots
8. Hand-Can openers and hand egg beaters, whisks (Life savers!)
9. Honey/Syrups/white, brown sugars
10. Rice - Beans - Wheat
(White rice is now $12.95 - 50# bag. Sam's Club, stock depleted often.)
11. Vegetable oil (for cooking)
(Without it food burns/must be boiled, etc.)
12. Charcoal and Lighter fluid (Will become scarce suddenly.)
13. Water containers
(Urgent Item to obtain. Any size. Small: HARD CLEAR PLASTIC ONLY)
14. Mini Heater head (Propane) (Without this item, propane won't heat a room.)
15. Grain Grinder (Non-electric)

Can one use an iron skillet to melt metal at a specific heating (Fahrenheit) and divide into nuggets using a specific tool (hooked poker or something) to dry for trading?

Uh, assuming all assayers are gone or DEAD...
...I would have to learn how to be a reasonably competent assayer during the chaos of the panic and depression.
I mean, I wouldn't want to try "jewing" the people in trade. Just be fair and consistent.
I guess I would need a double degree in economics and finance and certificates in assaying & metalsmithing (assuming these diploma papers will survive fire -- stored safely in the portable vault) to be considered trustworthy.

Apparently we aren't the only ones who are worried. Don't forget your first-aid stuff. You will need seeds for next year along with sugar, salt, vinegar and lemon juice to preserve the crop. Invest in Kerr and Ball glass jars, lids and assessories.

That is what we did before Y2K. Our original well is right out our back door and the manual pump is in our basement. You can survive without much food for several weeks, but not water.

A lot of people use honey as a direct substitute for sugar and honey lasts a very long time (and is much healthier), so that may be why he is wanting to store so much of it.
