If possible you may want to

If possible you may want to try getting a diesel. Call a few oil change shops or transmission shops and see what they do with their waste oil. Unlike vegetable oil, waste motor oil only needs to be filtered and there are more btu's per gallon of waste motor oil than vegetable oil, gasoline, or diesel. Better yet it's cheap, if not, free.

And as for Tesla, Tesla was a very intelligent and accomplished engineer, but if researched it is found most of the things he "invented' were already around, try checking out http://www.lindsaybks.com/gallery/teslamyth/ttesla1.html

Try

water4gas.com

No.

I've done quite a bit with HHO on my own car.. Water 4 gas is BS. It's like disinfo against real HHO achievements. Below are many great ideas in this thread. Water4gas isn't one of those... Secondly you have to pay for the info.. Don't do that, get it free.

We have an hho booster

Our 1979 Mercedes diesel went from about 25 mpg to 34 mpg.
I won't argue with anyone whether it works or not. We have one, we know.
We also can run it on used fry oil.
I am ordering an oil press to make my own "gas" from sunflower seeds if needed. (I was very excited to find this site: http://www.piteba.com/eng/index_eng.htm)

I went to New Jersey to here

I went to New Jersey to here what Dennis Lee had to say, you can googe his name, he has videos under google video. He has had mixed reviews. He seems to not be able to make dead lines. However I know what its like when the government ambushes you- it make it impossible to make deadlines.
Anyway, I sat through a full days seminar, and this technology was discussed in great detial. I am not mechanicle at all.
It sounds like putting this technology on your car is easy, the hard part is getting around the computer. The computer will read your o2 sensor and reset after a couple tanks of gas. What Dennis Lees company has done is made a computer chip that will make your car computer work with the system. I was told it takes someone who can toon the car too, this is supposed to be a difficult task.
Ford motor company is researching this technology, they were supposed to be concluded bu October 1st, I havent heard any updates, im on the emailing list.
I signed a non disclosure so i am not able to discuss all the things I saw. According to what I saw it appears we can do significantly better than what the auto manufactures are doing now.
I dont know to much about the mechanicles, but I have had many discussions with the mechanics and installers.
I have no idea how this will work for me, I drive a 1998 ford expidition and love a big truck, I purchased this kit from Dennis Less company, a local dealership here in MN and going to have it installed in my truck hopefully early november, it was scheduled for installation 10-4-2008 but I let a state rep go in my place. Im planning on having a camera crew come out and video tape it. I will post the video once its done and we will see what happens.

Here Are My Recomendations

Make your own ethanol for about a dollar a gallon:

http://www.alcoholcanbeagas.com/

Free plans for a proven HHO generator:

http://www.smacksboosters.110mb.com/

Make your own biodeisel:

http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel.html

All these are proven technologies that can be implemented right now with no new or experimental technology needed. Although people are constantly experimenting with improvement these are working and practical right now.

her's what you do

go to walmart. they have stainless steel flour containers with a acrylic top with a gasket for $12, get one that will hold about 5 pounds of flour. The dollar tree, or bed bath and beyond will have stainless steel pot scrubbers, you need 4. home depot has stainless steel threaded rod, get a foot or so and pick up some stainless steel nuts and bolts (1/4-20 or same thread as the rod) and some plastic tubing and 2 brass fittings, threaded on one end and sized to accept the tubing on the other, and about 30 feet of 14ga wire. Pick up a 30 amp switch with inline fuse and an amp gauge from an auto parts store. all told this should cost about $30- 40.
drill a hole in the middle of the acrylic top to TIGHTLY fit the threaded rod and another for one brass fitting. Run the wire through the firewall and connect in series with the switch and ampmeter and connect to a fuse that is only on when the key is on. Drill a hole on your air cleaner for the other brass fitting, OR find a good vacuum line. The closer to the cylinders the better.
Screw the threaded rod through the top. leave some space from the bottom so it doesn't short. wrap the pot scrubbers around the rod, make sure they don't touch the container. install the tubing, ground the outside of the container to the battery. Fill 2/3 with water, add a few drops of potassium hydroxyide (drain cleaner - home depot) and start the car. the ampmeter needs to read 5 - 20 amps. more acid = more amps

My results were 50% improvement, or 10 miles per gallon in a mini-van.
spread the word.

Here's a page that will tell

Here's a page that will tell you how to increase your mileage up to 50% without converting to alternative fuels (other than adding some acetone and xylene to your gas):

http://www.brightgreen.us/lubedev/smartgas/ultra5.htm

Also do a search for "side gapping" your spark plugs, or finding off the shelf plugs that offer similar benefits.

A combination of natural gas and HHO sounds promising. Has anyone tried it?

I have a fully electric car,

I have a fully electric car, and a segway human transporter. I love them both, Segway more then the car. Electric cars are still limited. They don't go up hills very well unless it's capable of unloading tons of battery power which gives you less range. I'm sure the Tesla is awesome, but 100k is not exactly saving money.

Also, I only get 25,000 miles out of $4000 worth in batterys.
Not very siked about that. And I can't go on high ways or long trips.

Tesla The Forgotten Genius

Several times earlier in this article, I mentioned the man, Nikola Tesla and stated that he was the greatest mind that ever lived. The U.S. Patent Office has 1,200 patents registered in the name of Nikola Tesla and it is estimated that he could have patented an additional 1,000 or so from memory!

But, back to our electric automobiles - in 1931, under the financing of Pierce-Arrow and George Westinghouse, a 1931 Pierce-Arrow was selected to be tested at the factory grounds in Buffalo, N.Y. The standard internal combustion engine was removed and an 80-H.P. 1800 r.p.m electric motor installed to the clutch and transmission. The A.C. motor measured 40 inches long and 30 inches in diameter and the power leads were left standing in the air - no external power source!

At the appointed time, Nikola Tesla arrived from New York City and inspected the Pierce-Arrow automobile. He then went to a local radio store and purchased a handful of tubes (12), wires and assorted resistors. A box measuring 24 inches long, 12 inches wide and 6 inches high was assembled housing the circuit. The box was placed on the front seat and had its wires connected to the air-cooled, brushless motor. Two rods 1/4" in diameter stuck out of the box about 3" in length.

Mr. Tesla got into the driver's seat, pushed the two rods in and stated, "We now have power". He put the car into gear and it moved forward! This vehicle, powered by an A.C. motor, was driven to speeds of 90 m.p.h. and performed better than any internal combustion engine of its day! One week was spent testing the vehicle. Several newspapers in Buffalo reported this test. When asked where the power came from, Tesla replied, "From the ethers all around us". Several people suggested that Tesla was mad and somehow in league with sinister forces of the universe. He became incensed, removed his mysterious box from the vehicle and returned to his laboratory in New York City. His secret died with him!

It is speculated that Nikola Tesla was able to somehow harness the earth's magnetic field that encompasses our planet. And, he somehow was able to draw tremendous amounts of power by cutting these lines of force or causing them to be multiplied together. The exact nature of his device remains a mystery but it did actually function by powering the 80 h.p. A.C. motor in the Pierce-Arrow at speeds up to 90 m.p.h. and no recharging was ever necessary!

http://www.mondovista.com/tesla.html

Tesla died in 1943, defending his theories to the last. Shortly after his death, his laboratory burned down in misterious circumstances. His papers, meanwhile were confiscated by the US government. When they were later handed to his nephew, they conspicuously lacked any reference to his death ray. Of course, we need not think of it as a death ray. We might just as easily think of it as a means of supplying free electricity to all, and wonder why anyone, particularly the leading figures in the power supply business, should wish to suppress such an invention.

Tesla invented AC
Tesla invented AC Generators

There is a memorial to Tesla at Niagara Falls. It is very nice I have been there a doze times since I live so close.

Eearliy...

...Tesla is thought to be, in one theory, the cause of the Siberian explosion that flattened trees for hundreds of square miles! If you draw a line straight through the earth's core from the epicenter of that blast, it comes out in Colorado, the site of Tesla's lab at that time! It is believed by some that he was working on magnetic fields and such. I guess it's possible, given the other things he came up with: a radio-controlled boat in 1898, WIRELESS electricity, AC current, etc.

Natural Gas (CNG)

Depending on where you live, Natural Gas (CNG) may be cheaply available. In the mountain west, every house has natural gas for the water heater and many appliances.

I have a co-worker who put a Natural Gas conversion kit on his Ford F150 and ran Gas Pipe to his garage. He now fills up at home for about $0.45/gallon and about the same gas mileage as when he was on Petrol.

I'm going to do the same by spring.

Where can the kits be

Where can the kits be purchased? Are there any shops that install them?

Many ways to do it...

No gas used at all. Unless you ate taco bell the night before

I thought the PICC sounded pretty cool.

~ It's a pre-ignition catalytic converter, but out of my price range.
Claims to break down fuel before you burn it, a lot less waste. It made sense to me.

It seems along the lines of the geet system

I've tried to contact people through the PICC website to no avail. I had looked into installing one on my car to see how they work.

Other than that, I've been running my car with HHO with great results. I'm gonna see if I can implement a hho geet hybrid..

Check your junk mailbox. I recently found out they sent me all kinds of stuff that I didn't know about. They said they may be hooking up with Ford and one of my vehicles is a Ford so...

The PICC is not available yet and their HAFC (HHO) unit is crazy expensive. For what they are asking you could just burn the gas and still be ahead.

Electric is good

if you don't need to go very fast or far, and can live with the current technology for battery life.

Your fuel is a constantly available resource, if you use solar power generation.

However, i would be the first to admit that this is not a mature technology for today's highway driving needs.
But, it would be very sustainable for an infrequent use vehicle that just needed to travel less than 20 miles at less than 40mph. Such as for "post economic crash" uses.

An easy way to get into it would be as simple as an electric golf cart with some solar panels attached to the surrey-top roof.
Not fast, but it would get you there and back, and you don't have to rely on anybody else for the fuel.
