Funny you should mention Red Dawn
I was thinking the same thing about the movie "escape from new york".
See I live in NC now my my family still lives in nyc. I would need a way to somehow sneak into nyc and then sneak me and my fam out. I think itll require some sneaky ninja stealth, intel on landscape, terrain, populous, security, entrance and exit points and some gold and silver for old fashion bribery.

There were a few lessons in that movie
1) Before anything happens, people need to be organized already. If that means knowing for sure to head to some town in West Virginia, you'd better believe we need it.
2) Be well armed and ready for improvisation
3) Have transportable food
Really, I'm not sure if those were lessons of that movie or not. They were fighting a very strange battle of mostly survival from the elements. Frankly, the reality of a communist-backed invasion is not too far fetched anymore.
