USA Today Reports: Iowa GOP HAS EXCLUDED Ron Paul from debates.

0 votes

There were Forum topics here earlier this week claiming that "according to RonPaul Radio", Ron Paul had been invited to the Dec. 4 Iowa debate, in spite of not acheiving the 5% average of polls criteria.

However, this blue sky assertion was not based upon any official statement coming from either the actual Debate sponsors (Iowa GOP), or from the Ron Paul official campaign staff.

In addition, a USA Today article came out once again today declaring that, according to the Iowa GOP (the actual Debate sponsor), it regards Ron Paul as not having met the criteria and therefore he is to be excluded.

This isn't "me" talking.
This is the Iowa GOP talking, according to The USA Today report.

Here are the article's main excerpts:

The Iowa Republican Party put out an advisory Tuesday setting standards for participation in a Dec. 4 debate it is sponsoring with Fox News. The phone has been ringing off the hook ever since.

That's because the sponsors said participants need to average 5% support among Republicans in recent national or Iowa polls -- and so far, Texas Rep. Ron Paul is one of the candidates not making the cut.

News of the party's decision and how to protest it was spread quickly over the Internet by supporters of the anti-war, anti-tax, anti-abortion libertarian. "We are getting calls and e-mails" from Paul's supporters, said GOP spokeswoman Mary Tiffany. She said there were 25 voice mails from angry Paul supporters before the start of business Thursday.

"I'm all about the First Amendment, but at the same time, how is this productive?" she asked. "They need to start calling voters and start door-knocking instead of calling the Republican Party of Iowa."

Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo and California Rep. Duncan Hunter also fall below the 5% threshold at this point. No campaigns have objected so far, including Paul's, Tiffany said.

In Pollster.com's latest averaging of national poll results of Republicans, Paul's support comes in at 2.7%.

Full Article at: USA Today

So, in summary, according Iowa GOP spokeswoman, Mary Tiffany, Ron Paul does not meet the criteria ( i.e. he is excluded) and cannot participate in the Dec. 4 Iowa Debates.

So the question is, how do we organize to fix this problem?
Ron Paul simply must get into the Debates to have any realistic hope here of competing in the critical upcoming Primaries.

Paul's true support, of course, can be easily be demonstrated by State straw poll results (he's won 21 of them), post-Debate polls, a recent CNN poll, some polling in New Hampshire, etc., and his large Internet presence (including "Meetup" groups) and his fundraising. He is clearly not a fringe candidate at this juncture and we need to make that clear to the Iowa GOP.

This exclusion cannot stand.
We have to do something big here right now!

Note: Stop citing "Ron Paul Radio" as an authority on this subject. Until Mary Tiffany or some other official spokesman from The Iowa GOP makes a public statement that Ron Paul is invited, then it is a total fallacy to think that he has been confirmed. He has not. "Ron Paul Radio" is simply not an official source here. No member from Ron Paul's actual official campaign staff has gone on record and said that this exclusion has been overturned (because it has not been). The Ron Paul radio report simply says that there is no effort to exclude him, but not that he has been officially invited. The criteria was an average of polls and not simply one 5% poll. Until an official invitation is received, or Mary Tiffany makes a public announcement, Ron Paul remains officially uninvited and can't participate.

Iowa GOP and Ron Paul Campaign Headquarters: Ron Paul is not out of the debate

By Kat | November 8, 2007

LB interviewed the Iowa GOP and Iowa Ron Paul 2008 campaign headquarters. In a live interview on the Soapbox Spectacle, John Zambanini made clear there is no attempt to prevent Dr. Paul from participating in the December 4th debates. Polling of Iowa voters by American Research Group and the Des Moines Register indicated the 5% threshold has been reached. Mr. Zambanini stated that “the campaign would like to remain on friendly terms with the state GOP and any effort to call them in response to claims of Dr. Paul being excluded should be avoided.” Please do not call the Iowa GOP.

Rasmussen shows Ron Paul currently polling at 5% following the November 5th fundraising blitz.

Plan B

Find a building in Iowa close to the Fox Debate to have a rally for Ron Paul on Dec 4th. Even if they end up including Dr Paul in the debate, it can still be used for a rally event afterwards. We can NOT make them include Ron Paul in the debate if they have their minds set that they don't want the American people to hear his message. Instead we have to be smarter and have a rally with thousands of Ron Paul supporters attending the rally during the debate. This will of course draw alot of media attention and drop the debate ratings like a rock. What a better way than this to honor Dr Paul and his message! Also, have a money bomb for Ron Paul on December 4th (if he isn't included in the debates) CNN and some of the other stations are starting to talk about and take a really good look at Ron Paul because of the grassroots movement and the money he is raising.

Turn this injustice into a POSITIVE movement instead of trying to fight it. Ron Paul supporters are very creative, dedicated and intelligent. Get Er Done!

Who needs FOX?

The fact that FOX excluded Dr. Paul will reflect badly on FOX and gain Paul a tremendous sympathy vote. The truth is, Dr. Paul is too noble a person to be seen in the company of such scum.

First, try and arrange a Larry King interview on CNN to run at the same time as the debates.

Second, a grassroots boycott campaign (no association with official campaign), warning advertisers, if they advertise during the debate we will boycott their products. Start a website where we register our intent to boycott anyone that advertises anything before, during and after the debate. View previous debates and see who advertised. Send them e-mails warning them that the exclusion of Dr. Paul is a grossly unfair move and they would not want to be associated with this undemocratic action. If they want to avoid a public relations nightmare stay away. Any group of supporters that can raise $4 million in one day, should not be underestimated.

Third, if no Larry King interview, organize a meeting in Des Moines to run concurrent with the debate. Get as many heavy-weights to attend and weigh in with their support.

Fourth, organize a money bomb to coincide with the debate, e.g., raise a million dollars during the 2 hour event.

Fifth, prepare yourself emotionally for a host of dirty tricks the GOP elite will pull on us to prevent Dr. Paul's nomination. This is going to be a hard road ahead. The corruption in high places is far more acute than you could ever imagine. The old politburo had nothing on the GOP leadership. We are being punished for years of complacency.

DONT GET MAD GET EVEN.... DONATE NOV 11TH...

Forget whatever he is polling right now - I read an article that they have already closed off the invitations at where he WAS polling and it was less than 5% - THE IOWA GOP is gonna use whatever poll does not have Dr. Ron Paul at 5% anyways - ALL YOU CAN DO IS GET EVEN and this by contributing MORE this NOV 11TH - perhaps the media coverage might FORCE Ron Paul into the Iowa Debates....
Iowa is so NEO-CON run that only the power of the media will make any difference (if then) so GIVE GIVE GIVE this Nov 11th
if you cant give $100 - then I suggest $44 which is the amount Mitt Romney is requesting on his grass roots campaign - even break your donations up in increments of $44..
Next suggestion is $30 which is what fred thompson I think is asking for...

He's at 6 % ! Look Rasmussen from Nov. 9....

3rd Party Run....NOT!

Wish you people would stop talking about Dr Paul running as an Independent. He has no chance. The powers that be have perfected this system to minimze any type of grassroots support candidate.

The only way we are going to win is to get out there and start talking to people. Go door to door and talk to your neighbors, stand on street corners and hand out literature. The Constitution will not be saved with fair-weather patriots. This is a struggle to save our country against those who wish to make you slaves. You think they are going to make it easy for you?

Focus people, and stop your whining. Ask those you know that support Ron Paul what they have done for him today? Look at yourself in the mirror and ask: What have you done for him today? Is it enough?

This is an all or nothing proposition. I for one, will not vote for another candidate!

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Rage, rage, against the dying of the light!

No other criteria

No other criteria would eliminate Dr. Paul except these kinds of polls. If it were based on straw polls, internet polls, money raised, or past performance in debates, Dr. Paul would be in the debate. One thing that has not been tried by the majority of us, in my opinion, is prayer. This can distinguish us from the other campaigns and gives us power and status that cannot be gained by money or strong-armed tactics. Remember the Founding Fathers. Their meetings were punctuated by prayer, especially when there were disagreements. Those on this site who think this is dumb, please keep it to yourself. Let the rest of us pray.

Ruling by prayer

Make that the fund raising day

If he is excluded, which I seriously doubt, use that day for a massive rally and money bomb. Have a huge protest/rally and maybe a silent march to it. If there were several thousand and he raised another 3 million it would be impossible for the media to ignore.

"In short, you see, the essential is to cease being free and to obey, in repentance, a greater rogue than oneself. When we are all guilty, that will be democracy. Without countering, cher ami, that we must take revenge for having to die alone. Death is so

An article from Ron Paul Radio--Dr. Paul is in

Here is the article from Ron Paul Radio indicating that Dr. Paul is in the debate. It also asks that we not contact the Iowa GOP. Even if Dr. Paul does get in the debate, I think a rally before the debate would be great. Show the media exactly what our numbers are--HUGE

I am ready to fight.

Any decent journalist could come to the conclusion that these polls are skewed because of the lack of Republicans voting in 2006 and I don't think one of us has a landline either .I will not take this kind of treatment without a fight ,these compromised news organizations sicken me to the core .We need to hold a huge protest outside the debate and perhaps even not let any of the other candidates in .Its time to take it up a notch .

Be careful in what you do

Be careful in what you do outside the debates.

The following is a long video and here is a summary:

Last years Ohio gubernatorial campaigns: in the four debates, only the republican candidtae, Ken Blackwell, and the demo candidate Strickland were invited to the debates based on the 5% bull.

We/the campaign decided to dress up as chickens in front of the debate. I was labeled Ken, and Dr. Peirces son Arjen was labeled Ted. We were both arrested and charged with jaywalking, failing to follow a police order, and one other M3 charge, I don't recall what it was. If you watch the vid, we weren't obstructing or walking anywhere other people weren't. As for not following police orders, that was a b.s. charge as well.

The sad part of this is that this was the best publicity Dr. Peirce was able to get. The man is ultra-intelligent, had great plans for this messed up state... and was the best person for the job.

My long winded point is that even though Dr. Paul's campaign is at a different place than Dr. Peirce's at this point, whatever you all do, please be wise. If all my charges weren't dismissed, I would have a "failure to comply with a law enforcement official order" on my record.

Be Ready and Don't Get Distracted

It only takes a few days to organize a competing event that will overshadow the original: we know that!

If he's in the debate, will they give him equal time?

I don't usually indulge in extremes, but this is a battle between Good and Evil, and I'm betting on Good. Let the campaign decide what to do. Be ready to support them.

Must find the annointed 400

There are a few hundred Americans spread around the country that apparently are the people we must "reach out" to in order to get his "national poll" rating up to speed.

Is there anyone on this forum that even knows someone who has been "polled"?

"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government." -- George Washington

Move Ron Paul Tea Party to Iowa Debate

This would be the perfect time to show America enough is enough. We do not want to lose our country.

Stop whining and start

Stop whining and start campaigning, thats the only way we have a chance of winning.

"You don't gain much by being angry. I see this more as an intellectual, philosophical fight than a political, personality fight." - Ron Paul

"You don't gain much by being angry. I see this more as an intellectual, philosophical fight than a political, personality fight." - Ron Paul

Night after night, for

Night after night, for months and months, NBC, CBS, and ABC devote pretty much all election coverage to the same candidates. So for Ms. Tiffany to offer Ron Paul supporters her unsolicited advice I find insulting and condescending.

Her very smugness is the reason neither party appeals to me and perhaps other Americans. I recently wrote about my experiences with the local Iowa GOP meetings...How they were a one candidate group and that they belittled the other candidates.

That they could make snide comments about the shortcomings of other GOP Candidates when their own anointed candidate has as much to dislike or more than the rest is laughable.

Reality check - stop wasting time!

All of this talk about debunking polls or creating our own is a complete waste of time and effort. You know what? I think the polls are pretty close to being accurate. It's been shown that the cell phone vs. landline issue isn't a big one. Maybe there's something to the argument that the base of people polled are people who voted in '04 for Bush when he had no opposition. But the bigger point is that these are the cards we've been dealt, and we need to find a way to reach those people in the polls instead of fighting it.

The reality is that RP's name recognition is something like 10-15%, and we're going nowhere unless that improves dramatically. It's easy to convert the willing - the independents and moderate Democrats. RP doesn't stand a chance unless he reaches the Republicans who form the backbone of the party - fundamentalist Christians (54 million strong, and voted 78% for Bush in the last election), gun rights people, pro-war (or at least maintaining a constant war on terrorism abroad), etc. Some of this will require going on unfriendly turf and convincing people he's right. That's what leadership is.

Let's stop wasting time with the conspiracy theories and face the facts - not enough people know RP's name, let alone his positions. The advertising strategy is one facet of how we address this, but the campaign needs to do a much better job of making RP seem accessible to those mainstream Republicans who seem to have their heels dug in supporting Rudy's bizarre combination of positions. That's the good thing - it shouldn't be hard to convince people that Rudy doesn't stand for much. But it will require converting people and not just patting ourselves on the back. Schedule town hall meetings targeted to evangelicals. Go speak to military-affiliated organizations. I'm sure there are hundreds of these kinds of opportunities.

So while there's probably some degree of inaccuracy in the polls, I doubt that RP's real support is much more than 10%. Our time would be better spent increasing his name recognition and educating traditional Republicans who are undecided. We've got weeks, and not months to get this done.

Helpful versus non helpful

If you support Ron Paul, that is the decision you have to make.

I appologize for singling you out APOSTLEofCOMMONsense : you were just the most obvious example-- But you posted serveral times in a row what were for all I could see, simple RANTS.

IMNSHO rot helpful. If you want to start a thread on Starting a March on Iowa: or a distributed phone bank to call Iowa homes (preferably republican); start organizing a rally to stand in oposition to the fox "debate" -- Al of these are great ideas and something we can discuss HOW TO DO. Anything else is just noise.

Again, I used (perhaps unfairly) APOSTLEofCOMMONsense as an example only. We all have intense feelings and have a tremendous amount of hope riding on Dr. Paul's candidacy. But we can not give in to anger and dispair and simply become strident to no purpose.

November 5th showed we a a force to be reconned with. Let us focus our attentions on how we can use our power to extend our goals. Those who try and silence and ignore us? They are just speed bumps, once we are past them they are no longer a factor.

As always, Your milage may vary.

Fight Fire with Fire

If possible - the campaign can higher an independent pollster to find out the accuracy of the polls themselves. Another approach could be to tap into the University support and have Professors / Departments have their students conduct polls for real life applications and experience. For example, the polls can probe within the GOP to see if a pattern exists of discrimination against Ron Paul. The poll is really to measure the accuracy of the information asked and compiled and is too subjective to be an absolute. BTW Ron Paul got a lot of passionate support by callers on C-SPAN this morning when the topic was on Rudy.

Will It Really Matter?

I'm all in favor of him being in the December 4 debate, but I don't know that his exclusion would necessarily harm us. If anything, all the publicity generated by his being excluded might actually work in our favor.

RP is so awash in cash, he could dominate the air waves. And remember what happened in August when he was excluded from the previous shindig?
We just set up a huge event of our own next door and had twice as many attendees as everyone else.

I think RP should plan on coming to Iowa that day and doing his own thing.

Hey, maybe we could have a Hawkeye Money B*mb for December 3 or 4!
Whaddya think?

Prove that the polls are unscientific

I do not understand how telephone polls can actually be considered legit. Seriously, in the age of cell phones, how many people even own a landline anymore? I don't, do you? I would be willing to bet that there is a large amount of people who do not. Therefore, a telephone survey effectively silences that group of people. Just how big is this group though? Surely, it must be large enough to discredit telephone surveys from representing the people as a whole. Wouldn't you agree? If we can harness this idea and put it to the test, things could make a very pleasant turn in our favor.

Hi Matt.

I see you live in GP, OR. Maybe you should go talk to Guy Finley and get him on our campaign. He has quite a following and is one of the most down to earth folks that I have ever heard. You've heard of him right? He has his center right there in GP.

Post is a LIE. LibertyBaby should be BANNED.

I hate to do this, as I'm not a fan of telling Michael Nystrom how to run his site. But this nonsense has to stop. I think LibertyBaby should be banned or at least prevented from creating new forum topics, because s/he clearly loves spreading lies, misinformation and paranoia.

LibertyBaby (and other paranoia-mongers like him/her) have been REPEATEDLY cautioned about this stuff. They've been told they're hurting the campaign. Either they don't care, are plants, or are so deranged and suffering from delusions of persecution that they're a net burden on the campaign.

There are two main reasons why this post is offensive and troublesome.

1. It provides no new information. LibertyBaby simply took information from the other paranoid threads, ignored the plain truth that more reasonable forum members offered up, and created a new sensationalist post to attract attention. Not cool. Not cool at all.

2. Most important: There are at least 3 lies IN THE FORUM'S SUBJECT LINE ALONE!

"USA Today Reports: Iowa GOP HAS EXCLUDED Ron Paul from debates."

a. The Iowa GOP hasn't excluded Ron Paul or anyone else. They've set criteria. Everyone is free to object to that criteria, and (within reason) discuss hypotheticals. But don't lie. Saying that the GOP "has excluded" is patently false.

b. Just as the Iowa GOP hasn't excluded anyone, USA Today didn't report that. I've taken Media Ethics. Technically, LibertyBaby has libeled both the Iowa GOP and USA Today.

c. Debates? Plural?

The bottom line: Michael Nystrom is starting to crack down -- with good reason -- on some of the more sensationalist and harmful content that comes up. He has stated that he doesn't want certain stuff showing up on the main page, which is understandable. He's even edited subject lines for that reason (technically, I disagree with this remedy because it misappropriates the subject line to the original author...but that's splitting hairs) We all make mistakes sometimes, but this isn't an isolated incident for LibertyBaby. This is either someone who enjoys trolling, is out to hurt the campaign, isn't paying attention to anything anyone else shares (and is therefore a spammer and not participating in a forum discussion), or so deranged and unable to reason that we should deny him/her the internet altogether so they can spend their free time in therapy.

I apologize for being so vitriolic here, but this stuff has to stop. Certainly, we can't squash free speech (nor would we want to). We can't prevent people from posting their paranoid diatribes on their own sites, just as we can't stop unsavory characters from supporting Ron Paul's campaign. But the owners of popular and reputable "hubs" in the movement can put a stop to this.

I trust Michael Nystrom and the other moderators to take whatever reasonable steps are necessary to mitigate the harm these folks do to the campaign. Knowing Michael, he'll never engage in RedStatesque blanket bans or other heavy-handed broad-brushing. But hopefully he'll take a hard line on repeat offenders who keep submitting harmful material to the community via his site.

Thanks for reading.

Plan B (a proposed version at least)

(From an earlier post. Replies suggested getting Dr. Paul on Larry King is more than a matter of asking, which is true. I'm just suggesting that if this is a good idea, the campaign's media folk should give it some attention ASAP.)

Earlier someone suggested that if Dr. Paul is not going to be in the Iowa debate on Fox, he might do well to appear with Larry King on CNN at the same hour. This idea is growing on me because 1) Dr. Paul has been perceived as angry in some of the recent debates, whereas he seems more articulate and much more relaxed when he is one-on-one with a reasonable host; and. 2) by spending an hour with Larry, he will get a lot more air time than he would in the debate -- and less antagonistic questioning.

Others have suggested demonstrating at the debate site. Why not try for both? Media would be prompted to report the next day on two Ron Paul stories that night -- which could be a lot better result than competing with other candidates for next-day clips from the debate itself.

In other words if Ron Paul is on with Larry in Atlanta while his supporters are protesting in Iowa, next-day news coverage could be a bonanza for our guy. Ya think? I suppose there could be some backlash -- critics saying "What's to protest when your candidate has his own hour with Larry King?" -- but, well, what say you here?

Million Ron March

This could become good. What if they do exclude Ron Paul? We could organize a rally so huge no one could match it! Talk about press! The million Ron march or something :) LOL well, perhaps not a million….

If Iowa Really Does Exclude Ron....We Must SABOTAGE The Debate!

Okay, if these fascists really attempt to stifle fairness and exclude patriots in an attempt to promote tyranny, we must get together some kind of grassroots sabotage in order to expose the corruption! I don't know how or what we should do, but we must do something at the debate that would cause a bigger news wave than the debate itself. I don't know what, but something like hundreds of Ron Paul supporters infiltrating the audience and chanting Ron Paul over the broadcast. Perhaps hundreds show up outside of the debate and burn copies of the constitution, something.

If they really do exclude Ron Paul, it could really hurt him! Tens of thousands of voters who don't know the truth, but only pre-digested tripe from media conglomerates. They will hear that Dr. Paul was excluded and automatically assume that he is too insignificant to ever win. Some people don't realize that polls just test a few hundred hand-picked people. Some sheep actually believe the poll numbers and aren't aware of the HUGE following Ron Paul has. If this happens, it is time to rise up and take a stand for liberty. We keep re-drawing the line and they keep crossing it. We cannot stand any longer for these attacks on our modern-day patriot. Freedom and Liberty must be heard and we must do all we can to save our REPUBLIC. If Iowa excludes, Ron, we must rise up and expose this great injustice.

M A Nystrom, Please Delete This Post
