Where should I buy silver or gold??

0 votes

I have a couple thousand dollars and I need to know where the best place to buy precious metal.

Any suggestions especially from fellow patriots who have purchased gold or silver before. I mainly want to have some silver for barter when the dollar crashes.

Thanks for all the information keep it coming

There are so many different types of silver. Is junk silver the way to go? especially if barter becomes a daily task.

No, not IMO. You're better

No, not IMO. You're better off acquiring coins with some numismatic (in other words "collectible") value. If you buy junk silver it's value is purely tied to the price of silver and nothing else.

look at

apmex.com. gold shot and silver shot if you're not worried about a paper trail.

I personal buy at a few

I personal buy at a few local jewlery stores. They all carry bullion and silver eagles. It is nice having two to shop at because I can compare prices and talk them down or ask them to beat the other's price. Also, they usually will give you a cheaper spot the more you buy, so ask for it.

Last time I bought $700 worth and I got it for $1.15 over spot price.

Gold buying for dummies...

I'm the dummy, what's wrong with leaving a paper trail by buying with a check? Is it so the Gov doesn't know, or somebody else who would come rob you?

How do you know it's real when you buy it from a local pawn shop or other dealer?

Thanks.

A paper trail can provide evidence of ownership. Since you're

talking about a couple thousand FRNs, take the cash and shop around local dealers, coin shops, etc. If ownership of gold and/or silver is made illegal, then evidence of ownership could provide a basis for seizure. Don't count on the protection of the U.S. Constitution.

You don't want the

You don't want the Government to know. During the Great Depression it became illegal to own Gold. If that were to happen again you wouldn't want any records saying what you may own.

80% of the public didn't turn in their gold...

But they couldn't use it because of the problem of being found.... If you used gold then someone may have told (unfortunately) authorities of where obtained. And because of this fear many people wouldn't accept either because of the paranoia of trading in gold....

10,000 fine wasn't the problem, but 10 year imprisonment was...

Some Excuses...?

Not to nitpick with you, but I'd be following my dog around

for the next few days to retrieve it. :)

It would tend to make the job of the authorities really messy though.

If all you have to invest is

If all you have to invest is a couple of thousand dollars, I feel you should be buying food, guns, and gasoline. If you own a farm (or a few acres that can become one) buy goats and/or cattle and graze them, and plan on planting a good garden in April.

We bought silver from Dan Pilla. His phone number is 651 771 5234.
He had a booth at a farm conference that we attended years ago - Acres U.S.A. This year's conference is being held in St. Louis the beginning of December. Dan is an honest guy and has been selling silver, gold and platinum for a long time:)

How safe is it to sell silver on Ebay?

I mean, can't people just claim you sent them rocks or something like that?

You can send it via UPS,

You can send it via UPS, have UPS pack it for you and if you want to go so far then also take a digital photos of the UPS person who took your item for packing (along with the item in the photo). Then insure the shipment.

In addition, you can also require payment via money order or certified/cashiers check, etc.

The only problem with buying

The only problem with buying from a coin shop is they seem to charge much more than online, at least in my very limited experience. The one shop I went to was charging $18 for 1 ounce silver coins when it was $13 per ounce spot value. It went down to $11 spot and I went to buy more, planning on paying $16 probably and he was still charging $18. I walked right out.

Is there any way to avoid the paper trail that comes with buying online? I don't think it's going to all come falling apart completely just yet. This bailout will let the bubble blow up even bigger before it bursts.

I would buy locally so that

I would buy locally so that you have your hands on it the second you buy it. My father in law bought thousands from Kitco.com 3 weeks ago and they still haven't been able to ship to him. So...try locally first...if in a town too small that doesn't have any shops...go to your closest town that does.

Just my worthless two cents...

cigarettes, liquor, non-perishable foods, guns & ammo will be more liquid than gold if things really get bad.

if things get bad...

How can you trust a compnay like this to actually have the gold you paid for, and can you actually get the gold delivered to your home to keep in a safe? I'd be willing to buy $10k worth, but would be skeptical of getting ripped off no matter how good the reputation of the company is NOW.. I'm worried about later...
