Open for Opinion

-long time reader, first time poster-

I have always regarded Daily Paul as one of the most respectable sites supporting any presidential candidates. The passioned hub of supporters here are a strong base for the good doctor and we have an obligation to remain a foundation for his message. As many of you probably noticed, a pattern of threads with a negative tilt, authors that return repeatedly to bump up their own posts, and unproductive titles have sprung. The urge is strong to reply to those statements yet how can I bump a topic that I percieve as not helping Dr. Paul attain new supporters. My question to fellow members and readers is- Can it be agreed upon to refrain from argueing on posts that have become 'too hot' and have lost the aim of this website( not to mention that of the campaign? Instead of pushing up the threads, we could just privately reply to the author? Love to hear some, ideas pro or con

principles are greater then men

Another "Forum Organizer." How 'bout you all congregate here

And keep it in one thread?

For all of you Internet Forum Noobs:

Forums are great when they're dynamic. Those of you who want only to read what you agree with, or what you think "looks good" have control issues. Go start your own forum, and organize it all you want.

I see these posts every day: Shouldn't WE not talk about this? Shouldn't WE keep it on this topic or that topic? Shouldn't WE do what "I" want a forum to do?

MN has done a pretty good job of resisting the temptation to control (with a few exceptions...) but it's his board and that is his right. But he keeps it minimal because he understands what makes forums work.

I agree

There's a downside and an upside to the freedom of Daily Paul. The upside is really powerful and valuable...fast breaking news, lively discussion, etc.

The downside is easy to get around. Just search around the site, go to other sites. There are definitely controlled resources available.

It's good to have an uncontrolled resource for freedom of expression; you don't have to take the Active Forums so seriously because there are plenty of controlled resources available.

See below for ideas, and just search around the homepage of Daily Paul.

three thoughts

1) Ignore the negative and reinforce the positive. When surveying the top 10 active forums, use your best self-discipline to let the provocateurs die from atrophy while encouraging the informative forums to flourish.

2) You can view a broader array of forum topics by clicking Forums (above, in blue) and then clicking "# new" (in red font) from the new page.

3) We have other resources that also post timely news and intelligent articles about Ron Paul and his campaign issues. Here are two that I recommend, and I'm sure there are others.

Let's party!

In any movement there will always be some who want to use a movement for self glorification. So we have to always be careful to keep these people under control. We are here to elect Ron Paul as President. That is our goal, so keeping that in mind we therefore accept that he is the one that we should look to for leadership. If you don't trust him as a leader, then don't fly his flag if all you want to promote your own agenda, whether we agree with you or not, this is not the place to do it. The use of bomb, was great for the November 5th campaign, but enough. Now it's time to move on the other slogans. I will be giving on the 11th for Veteran's Day, The Veteran's Day Money Campaign and then for Boston Tea Party Day, the Money party. Let's Party and have fun, that is what Ron Paul is calling us to do. He isn't calling us to fight, burn and bomb.

dump not bump!

this came up recently on another thread, and i responded there too

I agree, let the negative posts die by NOT responding.

And if you feel the issue is an important one, respond by creating a NEW thread... so all the negativity is not there.

For example, if someone creates a "negative" thread in discussing RPs supposed "isolationist" ideas & you feel that you MUST respond to to it...
Just create another thread discussing it, eg talking about how with RPs "non-interventionist" foreign policy we can be friendly and trade with all nations while at the same time removing much of the resentment that causes people to want to attack us.
Something like that.

Goaded

Yes it is very tempting to reply to sensational posts and such, but I agree all members should refrain and let it die. No matter how provoked you feel.

DP Forums

I agree.

I am spending less time here than I did before. The active forum topics seem to always contain wayyy too sensational headlines, money bomb money bomb money bomb info that is all over the map with 20 different dates, bad info, etc...

Topics that should stay on top for useful and smart info get squashed.

The site is losing it's common sense and campaign usefulness. I fear it probably deters some possible new recruits and voters.

Call it unfair, censorship, favortism or whatever. Michael needs to get a grip on some of these ridiculous posts and posters.

I'm just sayin'.....

Excellent Post

Thank you Mash The Gas!!

Bump or Dump

"bump" or "dump" option would work best. :)

Free Market > Trolls

A reply without bump option would help.

One thing i would like to see is a split of this forum into a general and a Ron Paul forum. Every day the amount of threads created rises, and it gets more difficult to keep track of them.

I'll bump this one... :)

This has been discussed before... The best thing that we can do when this happens is to simply leave one (only one of us... :) comment with a directive to bury and explaining why. This is usually sufficient to see the thing buried.

We always follow this with a bump to positive threads. I personally have a few positive threads that are timeless that I keep bookmarked to bump on demand... :) And going through the list of top items will usually yield plenty of good things to keep up there...

A strict "Do NOT Feed The Trolls" policy is the best way to get rid of them. And it generally works well. If you subsidize (bump) something, you get more of it...

I would agree but

This is an eager bunch swapping of ideas and learning is important, just yesterday i posted a few books for other paul supporters to read so they get knowledge on whats going on with our Government so when they talk to someone they have a good grip on the issues and they do not come across as sounding uninformed. As far as the multiple post on bombs i would have to agree, set a date and run with it, but we also have to understand they are excited about being part of something great and to a lot of them this is where they come home to roost.

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote."

An eager bunch

Yes, we're an eager bunch! I like how fast you can get new information when Daily Paul works at its best. It's worth the problem that it creates (trolls, etc) because of how open it is.

A user of Daily Paul just needs to learn about the rest of the site, other resources, etc. whenever the trolls are active.

Troll = someone I think is a troll, but how can I know? Try to be courteous to everyone, and stick to the facts and the issues...not the personalities.
