I've often wondered if Paintball guns might not be an effective non-lethal COUNTER measure to "riot police."
You know, they always have the acrylic face-shields and even the full body shields (in Europe anyway)... which would be USELESS if they were covered with paintballs (or smeared as a result of trying to wipe the paint away).
After all, the "riot police" themselves use paintball guns (and rumor has it with cayenne pepper replacing some of the paint).

Yes, my thoughts exactly. Posted a bit on this a few days ago. These would be great self defense too for people in areas where gun ownership is almost impossible (MA). The paint will wash off with water but it's very sticky in the meantime. Would bet there's ammo for them that is more pesky. These things DO hurt, draw blood and leave a whelt! I have a small full-automatic and Wow, does it rip!

you know the reaction from these pituitary and intellectual retards. Do you really think a paintball gun would be met with any less force than demonstration? I would hate to see a fellow activist get hurt over something like this. No guns, not even paintball, people. I do not mean to rain on anyone's parade, though. Not planning anything. (I live in the middle of BFE, no riots around here -- unless the cows or the chipmunks start something!)
I just see these things from foreign countries (and/or places like Miami -- which kind of qualifies as a foreign country) on video and have often wondered whether the "rioters" in the heartland of the US would not choose to use their paintball guns (rather than say the rocks thrown by Israeli or Palestinian kids) -- and whether they might be more effective (being "paint").
As far as violence (in any form) goes, I have often thought that Asimov expressed it best in his Foundation series:
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.
Though I think it is often the FIRST refuge of the incompetent as well.

I was mostly putting the idea out for those needing self protection when a gun is not an option in the home. It would serve as major surprise, especially full-auto. Being out here in rural BFE, I was more in the mode of "pondering" rather than actually planning anything (I'd literally have to get into the truck and drive about an hour and a half to even get to a town that had enough people to even think of staging a proper "riot" much less sufficient police for their to be a "riot police" force to speak of.)
But I hadn't considered the thought you just expressed... of scaring the crap out of homebreakers... or (more frequent in these parts) literal varmints in the form of racoons and possum and the like... something tells me they wouldn't like being hit with a paintball (and if one can get "glow in the dark paintballs {I assume so} it might have added benefits.)
