Regarding your comment about "greenie/enviro" people being "wacko."

Ron Paul supporters are a very diverse group of people. There's those of us who not only care about what's happening to America because of greedy, power-hungry people but what's happening to the earth and other species.

I doubt you've ever enjoyed being called a wacko because you're a Ron Paul supporter by people who feel threatened by new ideas. Same principle. Just something to think about.

Seriously, there ARE some "wackos" in just about every group.

We had some "wackos" in our local RP group (including one guy who, and I kid you not... had serious issues with using aluminum foil on everything... I mean literally, foil around the edges of homemade RP signs, etc) -- not to mention the people who saw conspiracies in everything, if someone knew was at a meeting they would insinuate that they were probable a CIA plant (and meant it seriously).

Their are people in the environmental movement that are solid and serious... and then their are a few "wackos" who see global warming EVERYWHERE

Deal with it... its the truth.

So their yields will be a bit lower ... but they will also be sustainable.

Most of the farmland here in the US is at or near the end of it's productive capacity, and w/o the massive fertilization and pesticides our yields would be insanely low. (I know... I live here, and I remember what the dirt was like decades ago, compared to now... shudder!)

Even though Iceland is having problems due to over leverage. People there are still going to be able to forge through this. There is still enough land and livestock to support the food requirements of the people. People there just have to learn to live with eating the few things the country produces for a few years. They have plenty of Sheep (about 300 sheep in the country per capita), Dairy Cows, Potatoes, Carrots, Tomatoes, Cucumbers. Fishing could be localized and stop trading to foreign markets.

Home energy costs are low, completely independant from foreign sources of energy when it comes to Electricity and Home Heating.

As long as the people there are willing to go back to the basics life there can rebound.

Now they just need to get rid of all the politicians and banksters that started this mess. (Most politicians there have been around for over 20 years) And to make things even worse the Chairman of the Central Bank last job was, Prime Minister(Leader of Majority Party) of the country from 1991 - 2004 when he became foreign minister from 2004 - 2005 and now Chairman of the Central Bank from 2005 - Present

Your prescription sounds like what we all need, a return to the basics of animal husbandry and gardening. A photosynthesis-based lifestyle would be sustainable for the long term, as evidenced by the natural world around us.

And it came out of nowhere... I saw the title the author put on the article "Stunning Collapse of Iceland" and immediately wondered how many of the "global warming" peoples would say "SEE, I KNEW IT!" (and I already knew it was actually referring to the collapse of Iceland's money problems.)

And then I knew I had to share... even at the risk of rotten fruit!

why do you assume a "greenie/enviro" is a wacko with no sense of humor? I'd say one of the leaders of that pack is Woody Harrelson and he's pretty damn funny -- and sensibly clever too.

Especially if you're against the "war for oil" and being forced to use a toxic waste by-product like gasoline for fuel, it would be very wise for you to be looking at alternative fuels and a more compact, greener way of eating for optimum survival and efficiency.
