Large fast-food chains are in a pretty good stance. They buy in such huge bulk that they can sell at less than grocery store prices. Their prices may change, Sadly you won't see more choices, but you should see price drops and they are forced to be more competitive.

When things started heading south earlier this year...

....and food prices here in Alaska started heading north, (food is up about 20% over last year), I predicted lots of restaurants would be shuttering their windows and closing their doors. Many have.

I am sure it is only the first round of such closures.

I feel badly for the staffs of these places. Jobs are disappearing left and right.

Did you know that much cheese incl. McDonalds cheddar, is mixed with a large amount of fake cheese? This fake cheese is called analog cheese. It doesn't taste like anything, and in large amounts rather awefull, but it looks like it and mixing it up with real cheese (still sourced from factories with very cruel animal practices) helps McDonalds and other companies to produce it cheap and tricking you into it is the real deal.

Much food with cheese, like pizza's in the supermarket, have analog cheese (you can't read "analog cheese" on the label, you have to look at the ingredients, so it is still pretty difficult te recognise). Even the cheaper restaurants use it..

There are many appetite inducing, tastebud intensifying substances in "food" these days. No wonder these kids and other people smear it on everything normal they eat. Of course these real foods get less tasty, less healhy and so forth, but thats the effect of drugs on people. You are happier and healthier without it, but for many it seems difficult to rid themselves of their addictions.. That is why manufacturers use it.

My aunt was part of a group that was trying to incorporate local food into the public schools. She said that the schools put TVP (textured vegetable protein - aka soy) in everything to stretch the meat, increase the protein content, or add to the flavor. She was very concerned, because of potential allergies. Not to mention that soy is a "fattener", used to get commercial meat animals up to slaughter weight fast.

No real good reason

They use annato seeds, ground up into a fine, dark red powder, for colour. I have heard the only reason for this was to differentiate Cheddar cheese from the other, mostly white, cheeses.
