This may not be my top Seven but I figured that it might be useful to put out for the masses.

I think Bacon would be one of mine... there's some things worth dying for!
Here's a little bacon trivia:
"I eat bacon three times a day! Face it! God has forgotten about me"
What movie? Who said it?

We don't care if you eat bacon... but get something and be prepared!

I quit pork 3 years ago.
God gave us health laws. We are not to eat SCAVENGER meats. Scavengers are basically God's vaccum cleaners for the earth. They eat dead flesh, etc. Vultures (bird scavengers), catfish, shrimp etc. (bottom feeders, water scavengers), and pigs (4 legged scavengers). The list is much longer, but you get the idea.
My understanding is that pigs will eat anything, even their dead babies...and the dead flesh they digest turns to meat very quickly...in turn we butcher and eat it. They don't sweat so where do all of those toxins go? They are stored in the fat. Heating/cooking does not kill all of the pork parasites..bad stuff.
All of that knowledge made it very easy for me to quit eating scavenger meats.
PS: No, you won't go to hell for eating pork ...but you may live longer (less arthritic pain too) and healthier because of it.
I'm quite fine...
I eat my pork steaks and chops medium rare. Have all my life, at least, every time that I have succeeded in not accidentally overcooking it, as pork so easily does overcook. Same with chicken. I never let a bird get to 180 degrees. It's like chicken jerky if you do unless it's in a crock pot. In an oven or a grill, 160-165 and it's outta there.
Sorry...
Sorry... God wasn't a very good biologist.
Shrimp, crab, chicken, many freshwater fish.
Plus, if you want to include domains of life you can include a variety of food products made with yeasts and bacteria (beer, cheese) and all mushrooms.
Incidentally, pigs and cows are not naturally scavengers. Humans force them into that state, but they are more properly considered foragers.
There isn't anything inherently unhealthy about eating life that lives on detritus. Its a psychological discomfort and nothing more.

Probably time to think about becoming a vegetarian, huh?

Has no one mentioned Spam! It's not bad. It keeps for ever. It must be health for you. Look at all the Hawaiians who have lived on it for a long long time.
Did you know that you can get Spam with rice at the McDonalds in Hawaii? They eat it 3 meals a day, and for snacking in between.
I even bought some special Hawaiian anniversary cans of Spam a few years ago and opened one of them recently. It was fine. I just fry a slice and put it on toast.
Maybe I should sell my anniversary cans on eBay!

Peanuts and peanut butters
Peanuts and peanut butters are best from New Mexico according to Dr. Mercola. The reason is New Mexico is dry and the peanuts and peanut butter from there has a lot less mold than peanuts from places like Georgia. The mold is usually what causes allergies.

?
Do you mean homemade, fresh from peanuts? You can make peanut butter fresh yourself from peanuts in a food processor. Or you can go to Whole foods or other whole foods markets and most have a machine which makes fresh peanut butter in the store from peanuts, like freshly ground coffee.
Ummmmm?
How about buying some peanuts and putting them in your Cuisinart...or better yet just hammer the hell out of them.

Dip cans in wax
A great tip someone posted a while back is this: Food in cans will stay preserved for a far longer time if you dip them in wax. Melt some wax in a crock pot and dip the cans in it. Someone else told me they heard about dipping matches in wax before going hiking to make them waterproof. I haven't tried it .... but will.
The wax on wood matches
The wax on wood matches works, I haven't tried using the cardboard type matches but imagine it would have a similar result.
Not sure about dipping cans in wax, though. Maybe doing that helps prevent the cans from rusting if you keep them for very long?

Any real survival foods
Any real survival foods should store a long time, and not be grossly unhealthy, but be calorically dense. The purpose of survival food is to keep people alive.
I'm also of the opinion it should mostly be stuff that is available in stores, not weird grain or other products that are hard to rotate over time. If you can buy it at Costco or WalMart, odds are better that you'll rotate it instead of leaving it undisturbed for decades and letting it be food for weevils.
I recommend:
In 6 Lb + Institutional-sized cans:
1. Beans
2. Fruit Cocktail
3. Hominy or Corn
4. Peanut Butter
In boxes (and frozen in chest freezers, if possible):
5. Wholesome breakfast cereals (Chex, Cheerios, etc.)
6. Oatmeal
7. Grits or Cream of Wheat
8. Noodles and Pasta
In bags, preferably packed in popcorn cans:
9. White rice
10. Dry Pinto beans
And for bonus points, honey, in as large a container as you can buy.

20 lbs. of red worms
No, not for consumption. Spread between 4 large totes (in the garage summertime, basement in winter), we feed them food scraps like egg shells, melons rinds, apple cores, etc. etc and in turn they make us the black gold for our gardens. So, we are able to compost year round here in NH. The big fatties are great bait for fishing too!
Last year I started
Last year I started gardening, although all I really did was make food for the deer (!!!), but will be doing it again this coming spring and have been thinking about trying vermiculture. I still might. Seems like a good way to get great fertilizer for the plants.

How are peanuts? They have
How are peanuts? They have good protein, cost about 2 bucks a pound, and I believe can stay a long time. Any input?
Better to buy peanut butter
Yes, I know it has stabilizers but it will keep much longer than raw or roasted peanuts. Raw maybe 2 years, 3 would be stretching it. Roasted 6 to 12 months at best.
(I'm in the peanut business)
"What have you done for Ron Paul today"?
hey, average joe.. your in the peanut business... perhaps you
know, where I can find roasted peanuts that are mold free..??? I have some, but they intermediately seem to have mold on them..(store bought in shell) .
Any ideas? Or how I can keep them mold free? (I know of a peanut farmer... and I can get them from him fairly fresh... roasted...)
thanks for your input...(maybe you sell them??)

Another must is
Apple cider vinegar. It has tons of uses & is good for you. Will also pretty much stop food poisoning in it's tracks. (an issue if depending on canned food for survival)
- Apple cider vinegar
- coconut milk (anti-viral)
- any hard liquor (vodka, whiskey, tequila, gin)
- All of the above are good for disinfecting, cleansing & antiseptic. They're all yummy too. :)

Bragg's makes really good
Bragg's makes really good organic apple cider vinegar.I used it, along with farmers market habaneros and honey some killer mean hot sauce! I wish you all could try it!
Coconut Milk, is a "must
Coconut Milk, is a "must have" if you have small children. There might be a milk shortage and coconut milk will make the ideal substitute. For my 2 year old niece, I use one can of coconut milk to 1/2 can of pure water, and 1/2 teaspoon of stevia. (Any other sweetener will do, honey, agave...) Mix this well; it keeps in the fridge for 3 days. You can also add 1 teaspoon of almond extract or vanilla extract for a real taste sensation. This is also an excellent alternative to those who are lactose intolerant.
Coconut milk contains lauric acid which helps keep you healthy.
I picked up a case of it from Whole Foods last week. I prefer full fat NOT light coconut milk and organic.
