*How do we bury our Silver and Gold to avoid Metal Detectors?*

I would think a lead case. But where do you find a lead case???

Use lead to protect your gold...

if someone is snooping around on your property with a metal detector, shoot their asses!

Shroud it in metal. Meaning,

Shroud it in metal. Meaning, wherever you bury it. Bury it with other metals all around everywhere so it is inescapable.

Also,

If you have ever been to the dentist and had x-rays of your teeth. You might recall the dental assistant laying a lead vest over your chest and shoulders to block x-rays. Something about lead and it's density I think makes it good for hiding what have you.

Now,

Combine the two and it's a shell game. So anyone looking to loot your treasure will have to seek a single lead box in sea of lead boxes under an ocean of miscellaneous planted decoys under a mountain of rusty nails. Kinda like finding a needle in a stack of needles.

And the infallible conclusion is........

put it in a watertight package and.......

...drop it into your septic tank on a nylon rope and make sure it sinks. (if you have one).

That might put it deep enough to avoid the metal detector too.

Shitty idea, yes. Bet it works though. Even if they find it.

LOL

thanks for putting it all together for us... :O)

I sure am fascinated and appreciative.

Where else would you get such an unique and interesting forum title such as this?

First, you never bury it on

First, you never bury it on your own property.....yes, this is risky, but it is necessary.

Take you gold

and have crowns made for everyone in the family. Just don't smile when they come to the door. LOL Sorry, I just needed a little silliness.

"We can see with our eyes, hear with our ears and feel with our touch, but we understand with our hearts."

Why bury it?

Go to the hardware or building supply store and get some 4" PVC pipe and a couple of caps, preferably one with a screw off inspection end. Put the gold and silver in it and fill it the rest of the way with rice to act as a desiccant. Take a ladder and climb up in a tree and secure the tube to the up side of a branch so that it can't be seen from the ground. Haven't seen anybody going up the side of a hickory with a metal detector yet.

That's actually the way I

That's actually the way I have hidden several of my caches and have also buried them too, but never on my own land...I hide my caches close to railroads and in remote large State Parks. Don't forget your GPS to tag your caches!!!

Try this

Find a big Tree or a large rock and bury it under in a sealed container. The main thing is to bury it under something large and unmovable.

Okay, if you are really concerned about this,

the best thing you can do is bury your bullion in different places, and then sprinkle a large amount of iron filings all over your yard.

That won't work

Iron and non ferrous metals give off two different signals, and visually register in two different areas on the digital grid screen. (a metal detector can see other metals right through the iron) You can actually set a good metal detector to "ignore" iron.

I am not about to bury anything

because half of the time I lose my keys, so I could just see trying to remember where coins are buried. Now that this subject has come up, however, I remember a long time ago there were suggestions to bury them in PVC pipes so not to be located by metal detectors. I didn't get it though. How can plastic block metal?

bigmikedude's picture

It

will not. Very simply. I can detect the little spring in a plastic irrigation sprinkler head. The only feasible way might be if the pipe went 15 feet deep and the cap of it was buried so as not to be seen or recognizable. Detectors might get about 3 to 4 feet, maybe 5 but I have never seen a 5 foot deep recognition.

Thanks for the answer bigmike

You do remember though for us that have been here a long time that PVC was suggested over and over and said that metal detectors would not pick up the metal within. I didn't get anyone saying that you had to go at least 15 ft down so it really never made sense to me.

bigmikedude's picture

I only surmise this

because I own a very good metal detector and am fairly experienced with what it finds, the sensitivity, and how deep anything I dug up was. I have located a few sprinkler heads this way. I say 15 feet because unless you have some 20,000 dollar piece of equipment, the average expensive detector likely won't see that far.

Also, because of all the wiring, nails, screws, and electrical fields, the average retail / commercial detector is almost useless inside a home.

You are funny about not remembering where you hid stuff...maybe.

then you could make your own treasure map....Arrrrrgghh

I learned from my Grandpa..

Packed ammo cans under big rocks in creeks...never had any problems.. in fact when I was young I would hide my playboys and my smoke "stash" that way. Never lost it, and it certainly wasn't ever found.

Also, if you have any trees with holes in them, you can pack them well and drop it in...very important to tie rope to the "bag" and nail the end of the rope at the top of the hole or to the tree somewhere..you simply pull the rope and bring up your stash. Good for medicinal herbs too. :O)

That's probably better than...

what the guy in pulp fiction did with the watch.

Look ALL I know is that my Father surrended his gold in the '30s

and I am sure no one here's wants to have to do that during a SEARCH. That is why I started this thread.

What about a lead box??

if lead would work

then that should be fairly easy to make if you don't have one..Lead melts at a pretty low temperature doesn't it? So you melt lead and make squares to cover an ammo can or something..was thinking about on the inside but then the detectors would pick up the ammo can...

Dave,
for Christ's sake,

You started this thread, and then disappeared !

This topic is ridiculous beyond belief !

Do everyone a favor ...

delete it !

Are you kidding...?

This is a great topic. I look at it as some comic relief during dismal times.

I

love it. It is a nice break from the seriousness of the situation.

Hell, that's simple go deep,

Hell, that's simple go deep, and spread different sized pieces of ferrous and non-ferrous metals all over your property, even metal filings and work them into the surface. It will drive them crazy!
Also, tell no one that you have any.
Another ploy is to use a decoy. Get a safe put a little sacrificial metal in there and when they take that they will think they got it all.

Forum topic kinda reminds me of the movie "Pulp Fiction"

".... So he hid it in the one place he knew he could hide something: his ass. Five long years, he wore this watch up his ass. Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the watch. I hid this uncomfortable piece of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you."
