Postive Article in Sunday's New York Times

The Times finally gets it right.
.
As I read this piece, I kept waiting for the bomb to drop; it never came. It was a good, fair piece about Ron Paul from start to finish.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/11/us/politics/11paul.html?pa...

Good depth, good interview snippets. We don't see many like these in the big daily papers, so if you want to email a story around to your friends, this is a good one.

There's even a nice photo of Ron Paul signing a guy's Uncle Sam poster.

Are you sure?

This is so bad? (@ all those who say this is a hit piece.) I mean, I see all that you are saying, and I think it's correct, but isn't this publicity better than none? I think many readers will just see his name on the front page, and see his positions in the first couple paragraphs, and go look him up. The name recognition should help a lot too.

I'm not sure, but I think this is a good trend (better than being called kooks and nutcases openly). At least some people will miss the subtle negative message, who might otherwise never had heard of Ron Paul.

Positive NYT Article

Could someone PLEASE post the article so those of us not registered won't have to register for the NYT just to read it?

Thanks!

Its still about name recognition now; Use it as FREE ADVERTISING

I believe it was a pretty good piece, overall. At this stage of the game, I don't think we're going to get any better from "The Paper of Record". And, like it or not, a lot of people live by it, and will be exposed to RP for the first time. I think we should push it.

This article needs to get onto the "Most Emailed" list. That list is on EVERY page in nytimes.com and also the top 5 on the list are emailed to every person that receives a story that has been emailed to them.

By emailing it FROM WITHIN THE NYTIME.COM WEBSITE, we stand to get LOTS of free advertizing. We need to get it there, and keep it there. If you are waiting for the Ultimate, Perfect news article to come along before you do this, don't bother waiting. This is as good as it's going to get.

Email it to everyone you know, and also you can email it to YOURSELF. You can email as many times as you like - they don't mind. This is like a poll that we are allowed to hit repeatedly, but that has a very materially substantive reward at the end of it.

Albany Meetup

I am a member of the Albany, NY Meetup group and was involved in the events reported. We have been working extremely hard to get exposure and this is a great reward for our efforts. This just goes to show what a small group of people can do if they work hard enough. Get on the front page of the Sunday New York Times! Incredible.

Representing the Ron Paul grass roots

I, too, am a member of the Albany, NY Meetup group. We busted hind to give the NY Times something worth reporting, really put ourselves on the line. The NY Times could have panned us if they decided to. Instead, they were interested enough to follow us all the way from Albany to Philly and then chose to put the Ron Paul Revolution on the front page of their Sunday edition. This was a triumph for the entire campaign.

Front Page PRINT edition

Just so you know, this article is not just some obscure article on the web. It's on the FRONT page of the print edition, down on the bottom right. Here's an image...

The MainStream Media bias explained

A few of us see their tricks, but not enough (yet).

Good for those of you here for pointing out what should be the obvious... The Times has not, in fact, gotten it "right." (AGAIN.)

Whenever I read here how supposedly "positive" an article or TV interview is, and then actually READ or SEE what the MSM has done, I have to wonder when enough of us are going to wake up and realize this:

The Big Elitist MainStream Media is America's #1 Enemy right now.

I know I often repeat this, and recently have even been criticized by a few here for [to paraphrase] "constantly gnawing this bone that I have to pick with the MSM." But the reason I do is in part because understanding the Media's underhanded role in this election is essential to getting Ron Paul elected. Why you may ask? Goethe answered it best...

"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free."

If you don't see how the MSM is manipulating you, you'll never be free of that manipulation. I want you to be free, therefore I will continue to point out their deception, and call for the overthrow of their control. If you don't see their manipulations, it will be much more difficult, if not impossible, to free others from that grip, and to achieve our most important short-term goal: To elect Ron Paul as president.

For whatever reason, even people smart & wise enough to realize what an excellent President Ron Paul would make, still refuse to "take the red pill" and see the truth about the media.

(However, I'm encouraged to see by some of the other comments that many of you do understand... Those who are able to read between the lines, hear the hidden negatives, and are willing to expose the sneaky tricks of the media to others.)

To those that don't yet understand, please take time to learn why this is important:

The media is the greatest manipulator of public opinion in America. The media is controlled by a half-dozen or so mega-conglomerates (owning over 90% of all TV channels and almost that high a percentage of newspapers and magazines). Those few that control the media are all of a like mind (not really a "conspiracy" - but more of a general agreement of purpose). That purpose is to gain power, riches and influence, and to maintain the status quo that has rewarded them with these riches beyond all reason. Their purpose is to support their elitist friends, and their elitist agenda, which is to expand their power to the point where one day they control the entire globe (and they are closer to achieving it than you probably think). THAT the reason they do everything possible to thwart Dr. Paul...

Ron Paul isn't controlled by the elite (unlike all the other frontrunner (D) or (R) candidates), and Dr. Paul has proven that he is steadfastly incorruptible for over 30 years. Even worse than the fact that he is "uncontrollable" by the elite, Dr. Paul also will do everything in his power to return to a law-abiding, constitutional government, and to strengthen America in every way... And THAT will not only slow (or perhaps even stop) the elite's plans for a global one-world government (controlled by the few elites, of course), it will also reduce their power, influence, and perhaps even riches! And that is something they cannot abide!

So, through their complete control of the MainStream Media, the orders have gone down through the rank and file of the wannabe-elitists who have sold their soul to their masters: "Do everything you can to undermine Ron Paul's campaign."

First, they tried to ignore him. But with tens of thousands (or more) of tireless grassroots supporters getting Ron Paul's name out in every way possible, ignoring him soon wasn't enough....

Then, they started to attack him. Not "too" openly (with some exceptions), lest their horrible bias become so obvious that even the average entertainment-addled public skool graduate couldn't miss it. But as some of them are actually capable of the art of manipulation, they carefully craft ways to use words and images that turn away people who would otherwise support Ron Paul. Note how most images of him the media uses are not the friendly, kindly-faced man that we know Ron Paul to be, but instead are scowling, angry, or otherwise negative in appearance. And they never miss an opportunity to say "he may have [insert something amazing here - like breaking donation records], but he still can't win." That is an old and devious tactic (wholly unsupported by reason or logic), that unfortunately sinks in to Joe and Jane Average if they hear it enough times - UNLESS we refute it with the truth often enough through our own efforts, and those of Dr. Paul's campaign.

The few hundred super-elites are America's (and all patriot's) worst long-term enemy. It is they who are the generals... The puppet-masters of the MainStream Media. But it is the MSM that is the most dangerous short-term threat, as they are the ground troops battling in the elite's very real war to destroy The United States of America, and create their "New World Order" - with those same unelected super-elites at the top, pulling everyone's strings.

Our would-be puppetmasters will be stopped, eventually. History has proven that all empires must fall - collapsing under their own weight. No amount of technology or crafty intelligence can prevent it. The only question remains: When?

The elites know that a President Ron Paul will derail their plans, that is why they use their MSM to try to prevent it.

And that is why WE must do everything in our power to elect Ron Paul.

This isn't just an election, it is war between the elite and everyone else. We cannot allow ourselves to fail...

Do whatever it takes to beat the MSM in these next few months!

Hey, that's my quote! LOL

But seriously, I'm glad that you know what's really going on hillbillybruse. Everytime I see a thread to a "great" article like this one, then actually go and read it myself, I too see all the little subtle mind manipulation techniques (images, words, etc.). The Elite are very clever in the way they do it and unfortunately, alot of people, even the ones here, fail to catch those little nuances. It still amazes me people actually think that the MSM continues to undermine Dr. Paul because they are "igorant", or "not politically astute" or because "he's not high in the polls". They know EXACTLY what they are doing and what Dr. Paul stands for and the fact that he is a very threat to their entire existence. This is why they are undermining him and will continue to do so. It doesn't matter if he raises 100 million, all the little cheap shots will continue to happen and he will never get treated with the respect that he deserves.

I know there are others who come to this site and know the real agenda but unfortunately there are still too few of us. However, that is changing and it is changing quick. Thus I am optimistic and I reiterate, people need to wake up. This movement is so much bigger than just politics. The entire pyramid of cards depends on this next election and from what I've been noticing over the past few months, that pyramid and the Elite's hold on power is starting to buckle at the base.

Link to the article on the front page of nytimes.com

www.nytimes.com has a section of "most emailed articles". If all of us could go to the article and email the article to our friends then this would keep the link to the article at the top of "most popular".

www.nytimes.com is one of the most popular, one of the largest newspapers in the country and many, myself included, have a habit of reading most popular emailed articles.

Initially the article with RP was one the first page and later it disappeared.

With some effort we can keep the link to the article on the front page of nytimes. Can you help to spread the word?

Below is the link:

Yep, keep it on the front page of the website, just as it is on the front page in print...

getting better

The article is clearly an improvement on what we had so far. It is still an incredibly superficial article.

are you blind?

the NYT article was a horrendous hit piece, althouh they are becoming a little more clever in their guise and their tact, but it was a hit piece through and through... Keeping people focused on the spectacle (that the MSM has created in the first place) of Ron Paul's "crazy" campaign success, connecting him to some of his more eccentric and unconventional supporters, and continually bypassing and letting his ideas and intentions to be discussed civily. Ridiculous anyone who can't see it...

Huh?

Apparently you expect the NYT to kiss our candidate's rear end. That's not the way it works.

But the NYT shouldn't work against him, either. We can agree on that. I just don't see evidence that this is a hit piece. Could you perhaps quote a couple of examples?

So far you only accuse the NYT, offering nothing to back it up. For example, you refer to references of "crazy" campaign success. But I could not find the word "crazy" at all, and if it wasn't for the $4.2 mil campaign success last Monday, there would be no article!

I'm not interested in theories or more rantings about MSM in general. Just please show me something specific in this article that makes it a hit piece. TIA.

(If you can't produce something specific then please try to realize that in fact, MSM coverage of Ron Paul has improved dramatically since he started raising real money. Stop complaining, enjoy it, and start capitalizing on it by writing letters to the editor that, for once, don't have to ridicule the paper or its reporters in every instance.)

Pretty good

It's still a pretty good article, IMO. They stopped calling him a "long shot" and there was no attempt to editorialize and say "he won't win". As someone else said, even the photo wasn't the usual attempt to make Ron look like some kind of movie villain.

Um..

"... largely iconoclastic white men — Mr. Paul’s once-solo quest has taken on a life of its own. It is evolving from a figment of cyberspace into a traditional campaign, with yard signs, direct mail and old-fashioned rallies, like the one attended by thousands here today under cold, gray skies."

'largely iconoclastic white men'? I don't think this is true at all.
They got the 'thousands' right though.
And yes, this is why the comparison to a Nader or even a Perot is wrong. People like myself who are used to traditional campaigning have been doing nothing but the tables/signs/gop even thing since May.

We have radio and TV ads, and now, automated phone calls to GOP households with Carol's lovely voice. All this thanks to the money given by generous donors like yourselves, which proves:

'We're not just the internet!'

Yup... subtle hit piece.

They are simply using a better writer (or more likely the editor) now, someone who knows how to insinuate all kinds of things into a superficially complimentary sentence, for example:

"old-fashioned rallies, like one here on Saturday attended by a few thousand people under cold, gray skies."

So, for this paper, it is apparently MOST important to note that rallies for Ron Paul are "old-fashioned" (as opposed to HRC's rallies which are "vibrant and energetic") -- and that there are only a FEW thousand, with the "few" negating the thousands -- and finally that all of this took place "under cold, gray skies." (rather than "despite the inclement weather") --- Thus, the casual reader has had "cold, gray, few, and old-fashioned" placed as the KEY adjectives to describe the campaign.

As for the record one-day fund-raising, he said, “I had nothing to do with it,” adding that he had so far neglected to thank the people responsible.

This sentence is also another wonderful piece of yellow-journalism -- I don't think I even need to analyze it futher than to say it attempts to turn the huge positive of the $4.2M in one day -- into a nasty negative, "dismissing" it as a fluke, making the candidate alternately look powerless AND unappreciative.

He added, “It’s kind of sad, but the money is what has given us credibility, not the authenticity of the ideas.”

This is so well (horribly) placed within the story that it manages to introduce via a direct quotation, no less than the fact that the campaign is "sad", and that any "credibility" gained is because of money. Very craftily done, they are the "compraquenos" of text.

So, yes, Virginia, this is STILL pretty much a hit piece. Just a better (worse) written/edited one.

I highly appreciated

your very astute analysis. I couldn't have said it better myself. I hope you continue with these sorts of media analyses; we need more people aware of the MSM's extremely subtle machinations.

photoshopwiz's picture

Yes, sounded good, but I did notice the suppressive undertones

also, I've seen this written several time...that Dr. Paul has not yet thanked the person who set up the website (Trevor) who helped him raise 4.2 mil. I did hear Dr. Paul say that one time, but I can't imagine he hasn't done it by now.

??

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

He did

I saw Ron Paul on one interview in the past day or 2 SAY that he called Trevor Lyman to thank him and that he will be promoting the December 16th event.

"Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains. A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom." Patrick Henry

All in all...I thought it

All in all...I thought it was a pretty good article compared to most others that I've seen.

Their ignorance is showing

A big newspaper like this has editorial standards and checks facts and spelling. When they fail to recognize that "meetup" is not just a generic term, but really an actual website, "Meetup.com," it shows their lack of experience on the 'net.

I'm not complaining about the story, but it sure shows how far behind the MSM really is.
