Through central banking, the wealth of a nation is siphoned away. Through managed-trade agreements the manufacturing base is enticed away. Loose-credit policies encourage mass indebtedness among the people, businesses and state. When the call comes in for the loans, the credit dries up and there is nothing left. A mortal crisis ensues since the nation is no longer able to rely on itself.
The only solution they have at this point is to indenture their nation to the World institutions, now falling under the control of those who control those institutions. The country, its inhabitants and resources are now the property of the owners of the World institutions; the people of that nation begin the cycle of doom described in Atlas Shrugged in which they become totally dependent on the state and must submit to totalitarian rule.
The process is repeated both afterward and simultaneously in other nations. Power is consolidated; the enlightened elite can then install order for the entire world.
Doesn't seem that hard to understand. So why don't we?

I agree with you. It would be a smart decision for all of us to plant our own gardens and for those who are looking to make some money, offer a for-profit service to plant veggie gardens for your neighbors and communities.
And if you can afford it, buy some land, lease it to a farmer, partner with a farmer, or manage it yourself. Americans are going to need to eat. The entire world needs to eat.

Plant grass instead of vegetables if you don't have a green thumb.
I can barely keep a tomato plant alive for a few weeks, but I have 30 acres of high-protein coastal hay. It took me $1900 and two growing seasons to get it established, under drought-flood-drought Texas weather conditions. But I now have a large area capable of grazing cattle, goats, and sheep.

As gumdrop pointed out, the united States (and likewise all other states with a fertile landmass) will be less hurt then Iceland. Iceland is a nutshell about what may happen to us. The people of Iceland will learn to go back to the more frugal ways of their ancestors, but they have a chance to learn much quicker than we have.

But mostly because I see it as a sort of parallel of how things could be in Alaska, with our similar climate and similar natural resources.
I was intrigued initially by the ability of this small remote outpost to remain prosperous despite its low population. Their high productivity (fourth largest nominal GDP in the world) and their moves toward privatizing more industry are worth noting. They are considered by the UN to be the most highly developed country in the world (and yet they have extensive areas of wilderness, untouched by development). Icelanders also have the second longest life expectancy, about 82 years of age.
I was disconcerted when they began hitching their fortunes to the banking world, as part of some hopes and dreams of being a significant player in Greater Europe. Who among us has never been tempted to put aside what works long-term, in favor of quick significant gains?
I've also been a bit worried that recent polls have suggested that over half the population favors ditching the Króna and adopting the Euro (but perhaps doing so without joining the EU). We'll see where this goes.
I've admired them for their cultural strength (requiring all immigrants to learn the language and take on an Íslandic name, for example), which goes a long way toward preservation of their country as a unique and distinct entity.
Iceland has a flat tax, which is rather high (over 20%), but it beats a progressive tax at least.
The history of this little country is also extremely fascinating.

We don't need no stinkin' fiercely independent nations. Even a few hundred thousand people holding out on the NWO is too many......all must be assimilated, pronto!
Seriously though, I guess I knew it would come to this...how so much can change in just a matter of weeks or months (or even days!).

It would be great if they considered using a gold backed currency. The outlook on the Euro isn't all that great, considering that European banks are actually *more* leveraged than their US counterparts. Also, a new Icelandic fiat currency would be very difficult to defend (from a central banker's perspective) if their sovereign debt gets downgraded once again.
Yes, they don't have the resources, but their currency collapsed. In the end, our results could be similar. We had plenty of ag and manufacturing during the depression, and our currency didn't even collapse then.
Iceland has been 'enronised' (hollowed out: see Glossary appended to our reposted report on The Cottrell Plan (18th September 2008)). When London became fully aware of the fact that the failure of Icelandic institutions threatened the viability of a swathe of British operations, primarily High Street commercial retail chains and services, British authorities contacted the Icelandic Government and warned that they would take steps to see to it that the Prime Minister of Iceland would be arrested for perpetrating economic and financial terrorism against the United Kingdom if the Icelandic banks were not nationalised immediately so that the Icelandic investments in Britain were protected.
Iceland is one of a number of smaller countries targeted by the Bush-linked criminalist nexus as counterparty bolt-holes for their fraudulent toxic finance operations. Other smaller countries that have been 'enronised' include, as previously reported, Ireland, Estonia, Argentina and Zimbabwe.
FACT: It will be recalled that the US bankers who were rounded up this time last year and flown to European capitals where they were made to account for their serial fraudulent finance criminality, were 'handled' under European legislation which categorises fraudulent finance marketing and related operations as 'economic and financial terrorism'.
Significantly, the statement by European Commissioner Joaquin Almunia to the International Monetary and Financial Committee on behalf of the (corrupt) European Commission, made available in the Press Room on Saturday 11th October, concludes with this statement:
'The fight against... the financing of terrorism continues to be a high priority for the EU where a robust anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing framework is in place'.
This fall will hurt the US the least cause we have plenty of crops and weapons. It was planned to hurt us the most but the NWO botched their plan up, no one trust them and they have destroyed their fiat money system.
