Made in the USA
Submitted by meekandmild on Tue, 10/14/2008 - 12:21Demand stores you shop at to provide products that originate, are processed, are made, and born in the USA or you will take your business elsewhere. Where I live at there is a large Mennonite community, I get locally raised foods, naturally grown meat products. Let get back to MADE IN THE USA.

Don't be too patriotic here.
I'm all for buying American made products over those made in some other country, but they have to be of similar quality. Unfortunately, many products made in the USA are NOT of the same quality as those made overseas.
When I was 22 I bought my first new car. I made the decision to buy American (Ford) just for the reasons you stated above. 3 years later, and many, many trips to the mechanic later, I sold it and bought a Nissan Pathfinder. In 4 years and 75,000 miles I never once had even a tune-up on that car. Now I own a Mitsubishi and it has been running strong for 150,000 miles with only 4 trips to the mechanic, all for scheduled maintenance.
There is a reason why people choose foreign cars over domestics. They are just better in quality. Period! And I won't reward the American makers with my sale until they at least come close to the imports.
As for other products, if the difference is negligible I'll definitely choose American, but for serious expenditures like a car you have to think of the additional costs for maintenance. Don't throw away your money just to be patriotic.
About Ford
Not to argue, but I drive a 95 Ford crown vic and it has 276,000 miles and purrs.
I just love it!

It used to be
when a person done a job, they would do their best, i suppose that's in the past. A man I worked with used to tell me, I must be working, I'm getting paid
Great
I'm so glad to see so many support Made in the USA. There will be those who'll sell the country out to save a buck - but what do you expect. Then there are those who make everything political to promote Barry Bambam.
For those complaining about workers in Made in USA stores, maybe they had a bad day and lost more to China.
Remember when you use to buy things that were labeled Made in Japan? (When I was a kid) Now look at what Japan has done - American auto makers put out poor quality for years and Americans got tired of buying junk. US auto makers started putting better quality in or go down the tubes to Japan. There isn't a reason in the world why Ford, GM or Chrysler(?) couldn't whip out an energy efficient car or make a $ 5,000 electric car that goes faster than 25 mph - they don't want to - so let them sink. No what do Congressman do - bail them out too - with our money.
Yeah - buy American even if it costs more because if you don't there may not be an American job. It's a matter of principle not money.

Where do find somebody like that?
can they make 6 tee shirts for a dollar?

Christmas Shopping last year for me,
was an attempt to buy U.S. made, and also to buy in my small community from the local merchants. I can't say I succeeded in all ways, but I did pretty well considering that I have a large family.
Anyone else willing to try that for this year?! (If we have any money to spend for Christmas!)
Food not the same but...
It's not the same scenario for food I know, but I have been supporting a local food co-op for many years, and stuck with it. As did a bunch of other people.
And over the years the price of locally grown organic food as dropped to comparable or better than the pesticide infected junk.
At first I used to think "I'll pay a little more for the quality...", but now things have about evened out.
A problem is how to get the majority of American consumers on the same page about insisting on American made products.
We should have rejected that Chinese crap a long time ago and stuck to our guns.

I know a guy in my area who
I know a guy in my area who is finally so fed up that he is starting a "made in USA" store. :) I will shop there.
I have thought about starting a media campaign to the same subject as well.
Thats Great!
Sounds like Wal-Mart in the 80's "Buy American" they would say, then as soon as they closed all the little mom & pap stores and gained dominance in the market...in with the China goods.
Deceptive crooked kids of old Sam Walton.
Maybe his store will catch on and STAY American
If I had the money, I would do that too
think the US govt would give me a grant?
Good on him!!
Good on him!!
I've often heard people say,
I've often heard people say, its just too hard to find products made in America so why bother looking any more. Here is some more info I found on how Americans can buy American made products

When I worked at Plano
When I worked at Plano Molding(plastic box company) for a month, We'd slap stickers on the plastic boxes that came off the molds with a "Made in China" sticker

Why did they do that? The
Why did they do that? The products were made in the U.S. but you put a Made in China sticker on there?
Its because a company in
Its because a company in China owns the company name. And the only thing I could come up with is that maybe the sticker we put on the boxes actually was made in China.

McCain's buy American record
McCain said recently in an interview with WXYZ-TV in Detroit: "I've bought American literally all my life, and I'm proud." Of the 13 cars McCain owns, only nine of them are considered American. The other four are a Toyota Prius (that he bragged about having), a Lexus, a 2005 Volkswagen convertible, and a 2001 Honda sedan.
Well, he recently took a lot of money from Americans...so that is like buying American.
actually
there is only one, stand-alone auto company: BMW. the rest are partnerships in one way or another.....ford/jaguar (although thats been sold), etc.
You forget, we no longer make anything...
...and what we do make is so grossly overpriced due to the unfair (low) tariffs on imports that a 'Made in the USA' store isn't feasible. I thought about it back in the 80's... when a few things were still made here.
I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

I"m sorry to say this, I
I"m sorry to say this, I understand shopping with "made in the us" or small businesses is a good thing but those small businesses are usually bitchy, watch you like a hawk when your shopping, and they're very expensive for the same exact item they charge $4.00 more. (for example, for a CFL Bulb at WalMart is 8$ and like True Value its a little over $12.00 or for Nails True Value is $4.50 and WalMart is like $2.00) The only small business I use is the antique shop to purchase silver.

We'll have to
face some pain to get OUR country back
and as the saying goes, you
and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for..
Don't have to buy USA products only at True Value Hardware.
You can purchase them at Wally World and Kmark.

Agreed. This is a pretty important point.
Even though many US businesses aren't too friendly to the US people, supporting them is better than supporting a foreign company.
Better yet, is to do business with small companies...albeit a lot of small business owners don't give a crap about you. Small businesses are more like that general store bitch from Little House on the Prairie. Still, that's better than ChinaMart.
