Right now the train is clicking up the hill. Keep your hands in the car, it could be a wild ride.

Ben "helicopter" Bernanke

The only thing better than taring and feathering Ben would be ....

hmmmm,

can't think of anything better.

"Tyrants fear nothing more than insubordination"

"It's just one big club... and WE ain't in it!"

Well...

for starters you could use Dollar bills instead of feathers...

;)

Doesn't look like his reassurences

were the magic bullet once again. -680. Oh, I forgot this will take some time. Like how many more people will need to lose their life savings before their wonderful solution kicks in? Then they have the nerve to sit there with their gourmet catered lunch after telling everyone how painful it will be.

so what did the HAMPSTER SAY?

...

Freedom may be worth searching for.

I have given up on my fellow Americans, (not DPers) as I will not shed one more calorie trying to awaken anyone else who is not a critical thinker and does not have the inherent feeling that something is wrong.

Dow closing at -600

I'd have to say he said nothing useful.

dom7p You need a marriage counselor

You need a marriage counselor not financial advise.......this much money moved around without your spouse involved is a recipie for disaster..and unfortunately I know from experience

My husband and I jointly

My husband and I jointly have a LARGE amount of money in the market. I didn't ask him to touch it nor would I since he earned most of it. I can't make that decision without him. The money I took out of the market is money left to me by my deceased father left for me. In just over 6 months in the market, it has lost over $23,000 dollars. OUCH. I don't want to loose the entire thing without anything to show for it. This money is not tied to our retirement or anything like that. We have no debt other than a small mortgage, both still have our 401ks, money in the money market, and investment in the stock market. I am preparing for the worse case scenario for our family since my husband thinks everything will be just fine stop worrying. I'm growing a garden, he laughs. I say I'm buying gold, he laughed. I bought it, he has no idea if I did or how much and he doesn't need to know.
If and when the crap hits the fan and he doesn't have a plan and is crying because we have lost most of our retirement, and need to fight the mob for food, I will pull out my survival kit :). So no I don't need a counselor. I need a rock to fall on his head so the light bulb will come on and he will wake up. He is a sheeple believe me, and a non leader! Sad but true. About the only negative thing I can say about him. He teased me for supporting and canvasing for Ron Paul. I donated money without his permission but worked extra to pay for my donations and guess what..... on primary election day, he told me, guess what....? "I voted for Ron Paul. I said good you now I "Campaign For Liberty" work to do. He gave me so much grief for supporting this man and ends up voting for him. He will thank me later and I wont hold it against him but I don't need to hear all the crap along the way. It's very discouraging especially when you have good serious intentions.

Good for you

Why would he have a problem with what you do with your inheritance as you are not pushing him to pull out "his" money out of the stock market? As far as the banks being suspicious, I wouldn't worry about it. If they are not the big chosen few to be nationalized they probably won't be around long anyway. Can't you just get your money in cash or just break it into 3 or 4 deposits and withdraw them when you want. It is not like you are doing anything illegal. It is your money. Anything over 10,000 they have to fill out government forms, I think. Good luck to you. I finally stopped the constant badgering I got from talking "negatively" about the economy, foolishly storing some food, buying PMs, changing 401k from stocks etc. by just saying goodbye for now, good luck and don't come around when the proverbial SHTF after I did all of the work and took all of the flack because of it.

Look at that!

See, it's nice to have a better half.

Dom 7P - You and I should get together

My money is what I inherited from my dad! No debt except small mortgage which is going to be paid off, probably next month. We also have retirement accounts. Also, I planted a garden, am stocking up on food and other supplies, etc. My husband just doesn't get it - thinks everything will be just fine!! At least one of us will be prepared.

LOL and amen. So glad I'm

LOL and amen. So glad I'm not alone in this when it comes to trying to get a spouse to understand. The funny thing is we have seperate accounts but access to each others accounts. So when he logs on to our bank website, all of our accounts pop up. All of sudden, he will see thousands of dollars in my account and he will know right away that I pulled out of the market which he ALWAYS says is a NO NO. I have to wait for the checks to clear before I can withdraw and put it somewhere else. At this point, I'm ready to say screw it. When he starts lecturing and saying I'm irrational, I'm going to say "can it" and hand him a peach. He will have to accept that he can't control everything.
He doesn't want me stocking up on food. So I have to hide it weird places around the house. It's ridiculous. Why can't a prudent person proactive and prepared instead of reactive and wondering during interesting times. Anyway...thanks for letting me vent.

funny

wether or not the horse is a male or female, as long as the blinders are on, they both still have the limited field of vision.

Hope more spouses come around.

As for me, I am doing ok in the Dominican Republic.

I disagree

I believe she said it's HER money. I firmly believe every couple should each have a separate account as well as a joint account. No matter how good the marriage, it still pays to look out for yourself as you never know what might happen. My husband has savings, I have savings, and we have joint savings and checking. Works for us.

Correctamundo. It works for

Correctamundo. It works for us too, but he still gives me grief about what I do. Only since Ron Paul showed up on the scene, have I not followed lock in step with him or visa versa. This is a losing battle for him. It's my money and I don't want any criticism during this economic time of uncertainty. Yes I purchased gold, silver, food, started a garden, keeping a stash of cash on hand. Money used for the survival of my family not for needless desires.

"Every generation needs a new r3VOLution"- Thomas Jefferson

It could be worse.

At least she's buying hard assets with the intent to protect her family investments. It's not like she's showing up with a pile of unpaid credit card bills. If I were her husband, I'd probably be mad at first but then I'd get over it and do something nice for her because she didn't blow all the money on shoes.

friggin shoes..

Thats what my ex did with entire mutual fund when I was 25. Guess it wouldn't have mattered at this point, but. Seriously, $20,000 in dancing shoes!!

I knew a guy

Who prepared for his divorce by cashing out and liquidating everything, then proceded to Vegas.

I guess if you are going to implode, do it with style.

And then, if she turns out to be right.

Like many of the people here on DP are betting on, he'll have to do something REALLY nice for her.

Here's an interesting article

Banks Need Capital, Not Government Management: John M. Berry

Commentary by John M. Berry

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601039&sid=aaTOWRkj...

Participation was hardly optional for the nine large institutions whose chief executives were summoned to a Treasury Department conference room with Secretary Henry Paulson on Oct. 13. In short, the nine -- Citigroup Inc., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Bank of America, Merrill Lynch & Co., Wells Fargo & Co., JPMorgan Chase & Co., Morgan Stanley, State Street Corp. and Bank of New York Mellon Corp.-- were told that accepting an initial $125 billion in government capital was the patriotic thing to do.

``These are healthy institutions, and they have taken this step for the good of the U.S. economy,'' Paulson said. And now they are supposed to do their duty by using their bigger capital base to expand lending.

I Skipped It

And I'm glad I did, I had just finished lunch. How can you guys keep it down?

Haha

Seriously. I was just about to say the same thing. They always cut in and interrupt presidential speeches or major policy statements, but today it looks like they have time to keep up a live feed of them eating.

Tune in next week when you get a real-time feed of the outside of Bernanke's stall when he takes his post supper dump.

Did you see that? lol

BS

I watched Ben read the script written by someone else on CNBS, I mean CNBC. Did anybody else notice the "breaking news" box at the bottom was quoting Ben's comments several minutes BEFORE they were even spewed?
