Can Christian's handle the truth?

I thought this was an interesting article and probably even a more interesting book.

I'm sure it will be a interesting discussion.

In the Hollywood film "A Few Good Men," Jack Nicholson's character famously shouts, "You can't handle the truth!"

But in real life, when it comes to a brand-new probe about what the Bible actually contains, it seems readers are declaring they indeed can handle the truth, no matter how startling.

The average rating among reviewers on Amazon.com for "Shocked by the Bible: The Most Astonishing Facts You've Never Been Told" by WND executive news editor Joe Kovacs is five stars, the highest possible rank.

Just a few of the issues explored include:

The Bible doesn't say Jesus died on a Friday or rose at sunrise Sunday morning

No wise men at all visited baby Jesus in a Bethlehem manger. (They actually met Jesus for the first time in a house when he was a young child, not a babe in a manger)

The practice of decorating a tree with silver and gold is actually condemned by God

God never said "Let Me make man in My image"

"Easter" has vanished from the Bible, yet many Christians still revere the name of that ancient fertility goddess as something holy

God sought to kill Moses

Noah, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were not Jews

There were not just two of each animal aboard Noah's Ark

The Bible doesn't say Noah's Ark landed on "Mount Ararat"

Jesus did not come to make everyone understand His message

We don't claim to know everything... but we're not going to just sit in the corner when there are questions to be asked...

Anyone seen Religulous...it's hilarious

It has a pro-Israel sentiment and focuses too much on Christianity and Islam, but generally it is very funny.

Christians with a sense of humor would probably enjoy it too.

The interview with the guy who made MJ into a religion was hysterical.

"Do you think MJ can have a detrimental effect on short-term memory?"

.....uh what were we talking about?.... :O)

Thankfully God has blessed

Thankfully God has blessed me to go to a church that teaches the Bible rather than one that just tries to get a bunch of people in the door through entertainment or false promises of wealth and happiness. I knew most of these already, and in fact we discussed Jeremiah 10 just last night (where God condemns decorating trees and the worship that used to surround them).

The problem, I'm convinced, in Christianity today is that many people who profess to be Christians are not.

love is the only true religion

His answer simple ~ I will tell you to what religion I belong when you tell me to what religion God belongs.

Truth is treason in an empire of lies.

Jesus Christ spoke

the Truth. Christianity is based on His teachings. If you don't believe Christ spoke the Truth through His life, and His Word, then I can understand why you would ask that question.

Hey man, believe it or not,

Hey man, believe it or not, I actually do beleive that Christ existed and that he taught a lot of great things. I even believe that he was a 'son' of a 'god', but my views on what that mean are based in historical and archeological evidence, not on mysticism. I believe that the 'gods' were and ARE real...... the problem is that people today don't realize that they were actual physical beings who possessed an extremely high degree of technology. There are numerous references in the Bible to aerial vehicles, nuclear weapons, genetic engineering/cloning, astronomy and the like. When you remove the 'mystical/religious' element from the Bible and actually take it literally with the understanding that we are NOT the first high technology civilization to exist, then it all makes sense.... from the very real and 'human' shortcomings of the 'god' of the Bible, to the 'miracles' it speaks of. I challenge you to read the Earth Chronicles series by Zecharia Sitchin, starting with "Genesis Revisited" and "The 12th Planet" and proceeding from there. If you are secure in your beliefs/faith, then this should not be threatening. If you have unanswered questions that nag at you that you won't bring up in Sunday school... it might be the door that opens a new world of knowledge and freedom for you.

This book reveals information Christians talked about for years yet the main corporate media labeled them right wing terrorists. Janet Reno said we were a dangerous bunch. Is it because the information we revealed didn't tow the corporate media main stream church line? Gee, sounds like what happened to us who support Ron Paul workers of liberty. As Ron Paul supporters, we did not tow the main corporate media line and we were labeled idiots among other colorful names.

My friends, as this book shows the masses they were lied to (just read the book to learn the truth) so will Americans learn Ron Paul was telling the truth and main stream corporate media lied as well. Be encouraged.

are easy targets because of Jesus' teaching of PEACE, tolerance, patience and forgiveness.

I would really respect them (the anti-Chrisitan, anti-religious, anti-creator zealots) if they had the courage and conviction to go into an Islamic country and correct them on their foolish beliefs in a higher power.

Being a Christian and turning the other cheek does not mean Christians are doormats. They defend truth and justice. True Christians would be the easiest and safest people to live with if you were a non-believer. Truth, justice and morality...what a concept.

"Turning the other cheek" only applies when you offend someone with whom you "overshared " your faith, and you didn't use wisdom as to when to back off. Don't throw pearls to swines. Brush off the dust and keep going. We deliver the message of truth, but the Holy spirit prepares their hearts to receive the truth. "Not MY job" . Thank goodness.

Sorry this is so long

I am probably gonna be told to go take my medication, but here goes. I visit here a lot, research something one day find out something different another. I like the open discussions and different opinions on this. I agree with a lot of different people here. I read this lately http://www.sott.net/articles/show/148141-The-Trick-of-the-Ps... (even understanding that the authors had somewhat of a biased opinion on the current administration and who wouldn't that's sane?) The whole message of the article made the most sense to me. Restoring the Constitution and Republic is the main thing to work for at this late in the game if anyone of us is to ever continue existing. You may be confused in thinking that ONLY Christians want a "Christian" Republic, when in reality, it's a matter of Christian, as well as other religions, race, sex, morality (whether or not the founding fathers were.) The FF DID use consideration of MORALITY to write it because of the morality in them and the belief that evil DOES exist. To deny that evil exists is to deny basic humanity traits, common sense, and therefore the Constitution and Bill of Rights. If there's good, there's bad. Good=moral/humane bad=evil/consciousless, period! The Zeitgeist thing reminds me of Allister Crowley's "do what thou wilt" (The Book of Law), which is void of morality and consciousless. Philosophically, or religiously, like a denomination, if you will, of something not new under the sun. If this is "the law" you seek, then you seek an "infantile internal structure." In the aforementioned link, the authors tell you about the "NEW AGE" pathocrats, as well as the different variants of any/all pathocrats, and how they operate, i.e. they need cliques/easily influenced, uneducated sheeple to survive. Not saying that anyone here is at all, just the opposite, all here from my observations, are brilliant and very educated, or like me, are just trying to search, including Fedor and jshowel. Everyone's entitled to their opinions and mine are in here too. Some here may think this would be unconstitutional, but again, it's my opinion and what seems to me a plausible solution to the method of madness. Some of you here have the capacity to write a bill, assuming there's not one already, to have anyone wanting to run for PUBLIC offices, from the lowest-highest levels, submit to a scientific brain scan. Most people (whether in public positions or not) already have to submit to drug-testing, and some even submit to psych evaluations, but the pathocrats have studied the playbook and have found ways around the system, even including and up to hiring an attorney that will argue the APSD and other diagnoses of both sides of the guides they use to identify them. Some of the psychiatrists themselves blatantly admit that even they have fallen prey to ponerology. ALL already in/seeking PUBLIC positions SHOULD want to free-willingly submit. This should include clergy, gov't/law enforcement, teachers, etc. Anyone unwilling should be considered unfit for duty by the public. Of course, nothing like this would/could be fool-proof, but it sure could root out a lot of pathocrats or those showing pathocratical tendencies (scientifically) and would from then on give the public the chance to keep vigilant to the possibilities of corruption/deception and all before it continued to get out of hand. Unless of course 'they' (pathocrats) can fake a brain scan. Just my opinion of course, but if you didn't want to do it, then seek employment other than for serving the public. One of the author's quote The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" when she says "meet the new boss, same as the old boss", which is exactly what it's always been and gonna be unless SOMETHING like this takes place-sounds Utopian to me, but I can dream can't I? Seriously though, if you have right, then you have wrong. Humane and inhumane. That alone Is instinctive if you're fortunate enough to be human and sane. Okay, let's have it. Which meds do I need first? Just hope that Dr. Know is prescribing. Now which/how many rules of the Constitution would this idea break?
"Impotentes defendere libertatem non possunt
Those without power cannot defend freedom." And may I add, that those without sanity cannot either.

Many Christians Themselves Don't Even Know The Truth

There is "One Lord, ONE FAITH, One Baptism"...yet we have dozens and dozens of different faiths of Christianity.

There is only ONE.....better be in the right one. The word "Christian" means nothing. No where in scripture is it noted that calling yourself a Christian gets you into Heaven. Rather it says, UNLESS you are born again...by Water AND Sprit.

Those of you baptised in "Father, Son & Holy Ghost"....I encourage all of you to read the book of Acts.

(I know all about Matthew 28:19). Now read Acts 2:38 and 39. Now who is right, Jesus or Peter? Read the entire book of Acts...meaning Actions.

If you say Jesus than you must throw out the rest of the New Testement....because Peter and Paul are writing it.

Think about it. Oh, and you must have the Holy Ghost, evidence by speaking in tounges....according to the scriptures anyways.

Do what?

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it seems to imply that to be a "true Christian" you must speak in tongues?... So those that don't speak in tongues are hell bound? Again i may be taking this wrong so I'll wait for a reply before I say anything further.

And what exactly is "speaking in tongues" in your book? Because most of the "speaking in tongues" that i have heard is plain gibberish, where the research I have done, and take as fact, tells me that when a person is actually moved by the Holy Spirit to "speak in tongues" they are speaking in foreign "tongues" aka languages, that could be understood by someone who spoke that language..not just gibberish to be "translated" by someone who claims to know "gibberish".

Help me out here.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit ....................

The word "tongue" in the Bible simply means "a language."
God gives all the gifts of the Spirit to fill a practical need. What was the need for tongues?
Jesus told His followers, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19). This command posed a problem. How could the apostles go out preaching to all the world when they spoke only one or two languages? After all, Jesus' disciples were very bright, even though most of them were not formally educated. In order to fulfill the great commission, He promised to give them a unique gift from the Holy Spirit. It was a miraculous, supernatural ability to speak foreign languages they had not formerly studied or known for the purpose of spreading the Gospel.
"And these signs shall follow them that believe; ... they shall speak with new tongues" (Mark 16:17).
The fact that Jesus said these new tongues, or languages, would be a "sign" indicates that the ability to speak them would not come as the result of normal linguistic study. Rather, it would be an instantaneous gift to fluently preach in a previously unfamiliar language.
There are only three actual examples of speaking in tongues recorded in the Bible (Acts chapters 2, 10, and 19). If we look at these three cases, we should find a clearer picture of this controversial gift.
"When the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven [divided] tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:1-4).
Fire is a symbol for power. God sent this gift in the form of tongues of fire so they would know that He would empower their feeble tongues in the same way He strengthened Moses to go before Pharaoh (Exodus 4:10-12) and touched Isaiah's lips with a coal from the heavenly altar (Isaiah 6:6, 7).
Why did the Lord wait until Pentecost to bestow this gift? Acts 2:5-11 sets the scene: "And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? ... We do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God."
The day of Pentecost was a Jewish holy day that fell 50 days after Passover. Devoted Israelites would come from all over the Roman empire to worship in Jerusalem. God chose this timely opportunity to bestow this gift of tongues upon the disciples so they could preach to the visiting Jews in their native languages. At least 15 different language groups were represented in the crowd that day (Acts 2:9-11)! As a result, thousands of these visitors were converted. Then, after Pentecost, they in turn carried their new faith home to their respective countries.
From this example it should be very clear that the gift of tongues was given to communicate the gospel in different existing languages of the world.

Yes I have studied this many times..

and I agree with what you are saying, but is it a gift that is required for me to be a "true Christian". And I know the answer for me personally, I'm not asking this out of ignorance, only learning other peoples thoughts and views. Please don't be offended.

No it's not rquired of you..............
